4-piece band + backing tracks for guitarist. Hmmmm...
well that's you're opinion, we are going to have to agree to disagree
Indeed - and I always assumed that this would be the case - thus my initial "In my humble opinion"... Of course the folkies would suggest my using electricity to make music is not "real music" .. :-) -
parts of it yes, it may shock you, but lots of big bands augment their sounds with backing tracks
I am entirely aware of this. .. Still does not make it live music... It may be a great experience, but so is going to the the flicks.. -
depends how you do it to be fair. if we are talking some sh*t midi stuff downloaded from a website, then it will sound like kareoke. if however the band have prerecorded everything themselves properly to create a wider sound for the band its not an issue. my band is currently a 3 piece, and we are considering recording everything ourselves and playing to backing tracks to include the sound of piano's, synths, strings etc which clearly we can't all cover on stage and generally we don't have stages big enough to fit the amount of people we'd need to get the sound live. arguably you could say it takes a better band to play to backing tracks because everything needs to be in time, and sloppy, out of time or poor playing will show up. the technology is there to allow us to create a bigger and more varied palette of sound on stage that 3 or 4 guys can't create alone. if it improves the stage show then i'm all for it.
So you're just playing along to your own record? :-) Why not go the whole hog and just mime ? It would probably make a better stage show... :-) -
Sorry, but there really is no substitute for big iron

Just reading the first post - is the AG500 class D or class A? :-) -

I suspect I'm one of the militant ones - if you use backing tracks it's simply a type of Karaoke IMHO.. Or playing along to stuff on the radio :-) -
And yourself! But then the MarkBass doesn't use the car radio amp most of the others do :-)
But then my RH750 pi**ed all over my F500 :-) -
Perhaps try a Ahsdown ABM 1000 digital head ,it made my Mark Bass & Tc head sound very thin IMHO .
Still a class D though, which is the essential thrust of this thread... And given Ashdowns reluctance to release specs with any useful detail it's hard to make any real comparisons.. Or it's reviewed by someone with access to instrumentation like the guys as BassGear mag online.. Fancy popping the lid off you ABM1000 and taking some photos? -
A friend of mine had one in the eighties.. Was the best bass I had ever played by a mile.. 30 years on I recently played another - although a lovely thing, not for me.. Neck mostly..

try a battery (or different PSU) in one of the pedals and see if it's still muffled.. ? have you tried with the tuner removed?
Oxford award BAs in Science, I suspect Cambridge do the same.
Cambridge - BA then MSci if you take the Part 3 (fourth year option)
Not heard of prestretching the strings then?
I think it's a nervous thing more than than anything else.. He's not a new strings before every gig sort of guy,,.
I have a quick question about the D800 as I'm really interested in getting one, but the prices over here do seem a lot. I have the chance to buy one in America and then bring it back but obviously with the different voltages of mains power, I may not be able to use it in England? I know that some companies use variable power supplies etc, so all that needs replacing is the fuse, but I have no idea if the D800 works like this. In short, is it possible to use an American bought D800 in the UK? Thanks!
Yup. they have a universal power supply... But then a look at the mesa web site would have told you that :-)
Last week I played a song all the way through in the wrong key. It was one of those stupid keys like B major. By the time I'd figured it out it was too late. Nobody said anything. I don't think they noticed. That was a bit depressing.
Technically not a valid post as they said nothing :-)
-
So can I can paraphrase the last zillion posts.. "We do this and it's great" "We don't do that, it's sh*t, we do this, it's great" "We still think it's great" "You're a stupid face" :-)
i see what you did there.. Yup, same to same. I do the 2s as well, call it futureproofing (GK bi-amp user).
Thanks.. -
Hi, Pretty confident I know how to do this but .... I just connect +1 on the existing socket to +1 on the new one? and the -1 to -1? Any input welcome :-)
No, the biggest I've routinely used was a 100 watt valve head on a decent modern 2x12", with the guitarists using 1x12" combos.
Usually a 2x12 and RH750... Sometimes the 810 comes out to play but only to scare the guitarists :-)
I have a tuner - don't need one in an amp. More to go wrong!
Something like this? :-) Although the meter is an extravagance

Markbass CMD121P change voltage from Europe to UK
markstuk replied to moncur's topic in Amps and Cabs
Cheers for the advice guys, I'll email Markbass to see if they have any further comments on the voltage issue. If I'm able to post video, I'll try put up some clips of the sound issues I'm currently having. It is just outwith the 3 year warranty so I'm quite happy to take it to my own repair guy from now on instead of shipping it for a service.
Has it always had problems? Or have they started recently? If recent, then the voltage setting is probably unrelated..
