How long do we give him gents? :-) a year? :-)
I was a bit naive thinking that mine was worth more. I've found a bass that I could've easily paid several thousand for with a tone to die for. This is how a jazz should sound like! I hardly notice the scale length as I only play this at the moment. It had its first big tonight with the Jazz-drum and bass trio (tracks will be up here after we go to the studios) Thanks to all for the help. I can see myself sticking with this bass for life! Beyond Bass Camp Starts Again in Birmingham.
markstuk replied to Steve Lawson's topic in Tutors Available
Hi Steve, Can you pencil me in? PM me on how you want paying...
Thanks to a cancellation, there's one space left for the Beyond Bass Camp class on June 9th - if anyone is interested, let me know! Steve www.stevelawson.net
-
Duracell Procells..

I suspect he does not.. I've a Barefaced S12T and an EBS Proline 410 (not a bad example of the breed and in fine working condition) and although there are major tonal differences the S12 moves more air and is so close in SPL it's hard to split them.. As BFM says air moved = xmax x surface area, and the Barefaced drivers have a large Xmax..
nope...it will get tonked by decent 410's.... so assume you joke. I can't think of 2x112's that can get there, let alone one. My 2x210's trounce my 2x112's in everything bar weight and carry.
Stereo :-) Not only used in bass context... I also think it will be cool with my PLX 2402 driving them :-)

For £650 seems a bargain,

Do you need a reason? :-) I'm puzzling over getting a second one at the moment :-)
Yes, i see your point and i also had the doubt about having the "tweeter mounting bar covering almost 1/3 of the driver" question but Alex explained it so i'm over it. I only care about the sound it puts out and that is sweeeeeet! only question on my mind now is "How can i find a good reason to justify ordering a Super12T?"
Any thoughts on a super triple? Given the implied advantages the S12 has over 2 midgets..?
Yes, it's always been like that! Reasons are thus: 1. Coaxial location provides more seamless integration, especially off-axis. 2. Front coax location causes the tweeter signal to lead the woofer signal so your ear hears the treble more clearly - BBE enhancers use this trick electronically. 3. The tweeter mount is sufficiently narrow to allow the woofer's output past unimpeded apart from the very highest treble output from the dustcap but that's where the tweeter has already taken over - in other words it works as an acoustic lowpass filter. 4. The Midget's cab is sized to control the woofer tightly so it can handle the same power as the Compact without over-excursion, therefore recessing the baffle further thus making the internal volume smaller and making the lows leaner and tighter isn't a problem. The Super Twelve's tweeter isn't coax for this reason (and on another subject a Super Twelve has much more bottom than two Midgets - it sounds as fat and deep as a Midget+Compact stack).
I don't think it's a good/bad discussion.. Only a "why might it be that way" discussion :-)

Sure, I agree the setup is down to the store, why I don't understand is why they don't prep the bass to show it to it's best advantage... She said they'd throw in a setup if I bought it, but that's a little cart before the horse in my opinion... I take your points on board about the component quality difference, and playing through a snall fender combo bears no resemblance to a real world playing situation, but given the other basses I have the GL did not impress me at it's price point whereas the VMJ did.. And I'd only use the VMJ (or the GL) in very specific circumstances

But if he wants to go five strings the JO is not a bad way to go, and they seem to be excellent value at the moment.. I'm even tempted by the 55-02 on here at the moment..
-
Sorry, I should have been clearer :-) what would be a great preamp for you? and what pickups would be to your taste? Plus are you sure your MM is worth more? There is a MM on here for £650 including hard case, and a JO for the same money....
-
What don't you like about the MM?
