1. I do get the sense that there is an undercurrent here of "I'm good enough a player to have nice gear, but I've noticed there are players who are not quite as good who also have nice gear, and somehow that's not fair" For the life of me I don't see what the issue is... People enjoy well engineered and designed things for simply that fact, some are into bass bling, but it's not many in my experience...
 2. How many Dingwalls do you have?
nonsense... Every song, scale, arpeggio I play with my gear is constant practice make perfect to me, gear or no gear, be it a £25 bass or a £4000 one (not that I have one that cost that much)
3. It will fit :-) Whether it's better or worse will depend on the enclosure (google for WinISD) ... And you won't get your money back... I put a 3015 Kappalite in my old Ashdown MAG300/15 combo a while ago.. I thought it sounded better, and was lighter, but not £100 (rather more now!) better...
Ported? and port size?
4. Of course he did have his own custom shop Fender JJ signature bass... :-) Back in 91 I believe..So perhaps understandable given he had been dead for a while ...
"Bass players call from all over, wanting to know what type of equipment I use, what type of bass, what kind of strings-- things like that. I'll tell them, but that's not what's important; it's the feel. The strings don't make the sound, it's the feel. It's all in here, in the heart." - James Jamerson, 1979
5. Whatever makes you happy and comfortable playing music and communicating.... Some folk are performers, some folk are collectors.. I think it's a big world out there and there's room for everyone..... PS I've just noticed you endorse "gear", so perhaps you're part of the problem? Do spectraflex cables and elite strings help you communicate better?
IMO the actual music you play to other people (whether recorded or live) is the most important thing. Practising and gear are simply means to that end.
6. You also want to check your preamp output is "hot" enough to drive the power amp properly... This is not always the case.... Cheers Mark
You just need the appropriate cable. It would be worth confirming the wiring of the 1/4" jack socket though. It might be wired "TRS", which is a 3-way connection (tip, ring, sleeve) using a 'stereo' jack socket and would allow a balanced connection between the pre-amp and power amp. Balanced wiring is less susceptible to interference, though the advantage is generally less important with short cables. The pre-amp manual should describe the cabling requirements.
7. Is your 760 MIJ ? Looks like it...
 8. It's not me, I traded it against a 5 string status about eight weeks ago. Mark
This ones being resold on ebay, lest anyone missed it : 700% inflation
9. Saturday evening bump and two weeks to go..... For those interested in spousal activities, this is also the weekend of the Stratford upon Avon food festival.....
 10. Nope, not before mixing :-)
Before mixing, though? By all means, throw a 20Hz HPF on each track while mixing, but why bother re-rendering every track before the mix (and risk degrading the audio if your render settings aren't correct)? One simple filter per track isn't exactly going to kill the CPU.
11. It beats one of the 410's but not both... But it's not 150 lbs worth of difference... Nowhere near...
 12. It's a dead good cab .... Here's mine with my RH236.... Although if I feel the need I have the QSC2402 booster amp available I've not used the EBS rig pictured here in months....
Dead jealous man! Mine should be ready soon - and i've nearly got the rest of the payment together. Really, really can't wait! Have fun!
13. There was an article in Future Music a few months ago where this was mentioned in the context of removing sub 20 Hz artifacts...
No. I wouldnt do anything to a file that wasn't in the context of the mix...
14. Are you happy the amp is not going to overheat in there?
 15. EA's run 2 ohms, as does the TC Blacksmith. Plus any power amp worth it's salt (I've a QSC2402 I use for 2 4 Ohm EBS 410's)...
I'm after a head that can run two 4ohm cabs, maybe something like the Ashdown LG1000. I like the specs but keep reading about problems with it. What else does 2x4ohm outputs/goes to 2ohms?
16. Sunday bump.. Roll up Roll up
 17. Just bought an Epiphone 12 string from Ian for my son.. Great comms and a complete gentleman... Mark
 18. Are you sure it's not the jack socket in your bass/amp that needs looking at?
Alright guys, been having some problems with bass cables recently. The last couple i've bought have a tendency to fall out while i'm playing so i'm assuming i need to be getting one with a thicker end. Was wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to what i should be looking for? Cheers
19. Might be worth waiting to see if the OP ever re-appears
 20. I have one of these - great pedal at a good price.. I especially like the fact you can control it with an expression pedal..
 21. It's like a wife swapping party, but substitute bass gear for wife... To further the analogy you should bring something along, no matter how ugly If you want to buy/sell/swap stuff I imagine that's fine, but nothing to do with me or the venue..
I've never been to one of these before so maybe you can enlighten me about what goes on or what is the purpose of the event. Is it a jam session or an opportunity for bass players to try each others gear? Buy sell stuff. What's it all about? Jazzyvee
22. Have a chat with Alex at Barefaced - he'll either have something to suit or recommend a sensible direction to go in... http://barefacedbass.com/ Mark
I have been through a number of cabs in the last year, constantly looking for the Holy Grail, but the fact of the matter is, I really dont know what I'm looking for! I do have a number of criteria, and money is no real object, but apart from the cab I use for practice (a 15" EBS non-neo with no tweeter), everything else I have tried seems to have too much "mid" for my, admittedly shot-away, hearing. I play in a covers band that majors on rock and 70s music. I currently gig with a Dr Bass 1580 cab, which I am very happy with, although I have the mid and tweeter levels turned down low. Its extremely light and easy to carry to gigs, simple to use and very well built, but I cant help feeling that it wasnt a particularly expensive cab, and there must be much better cabs out there. I tend to use a Yamaha 2024x bass, or an ACG to gig with, sometimes a Status S2 or a Pedulla Thunderbolt, and love a more "vintage" tone, for a better word. My amp is a TC RH 750, and the cabs I have tried and dismissed were TC 210 and 212 combination, Genz Benz Neox 212, and a couple of others. Its pretty obvious I must prefer 15" speakers over 12", and dont get on with 10" speakers at all. I much enjoy the modern, light weight cabs as well. I was looking at an Accugroove Whappo Junior, but was put off by the fact that the mid and tweeter werent controllable, but to achieve an improvement in quality over my Dr Bass (which as I said, is very good), what on earth should I be looking at? I think all I have done is confuse myself, and maybe I should gig with my practice cab!!
25. I don't know.. :-) do we want drums guys? :-)
Upstairs bar in Cox's is lovely (well, whole pub's lovely) - might drift over, I'm likely to be based down that way soon, but can't confirm yet. Do you want drums?
