bandmix.co.uk has also been productive for me...
Like the OP, I find personal connections are usually the best way to find like-minded musos, but if you're going down the online adverts route, joinmyband.co.uk and Gumtree have always got the biggest response for me. Have to switch your chancer filter on full, as is normal when you're advertising for band members, but they seem to be a lot more active than any of the other sites I've tried.
Hi guys, Just back from a stay in Warwick hospital... I suspect I'm looking for a minimum of 12-15 people to commit to turn up and that will depend on who can commit to which dates before I book... There will either be beer or you will be able to bring your own :-) Mark

I recently picked up a pre-built BFM Jack 210 on here for a fellow bass player.. It blew the socks off his current Ashdown ABM 1x15/4x8 setup....
Torres do some good home build kits here in the UK... not quite as extensive a range as they are focused a little more on amp building, but apart from their standard cabs they will cut panels to order. ficelles
Bill is this Bill... http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/ He's a fellow home builder :-)
What a charming response Do you make many friends in here? Anyway it depends how you like your sound, and the whole point of bi-amping is to be able to better tailor the rig to your sound and to the room you are in. And you are forgetting that a consideration is visual - a 1x8 would look pretty silly. You need those 4 shiny cones to highlight just how fearsomely powerful your rig is. Btw my current "large" cab is a vertical 1x10 + 1x12, with a rear slot. Home-built of course. No doubt you can now tell me exactly how and why that's wrong, but it sounds great to my ears and is neither boomy nor weak in any particular band (specific room acoustics excepting of course)... here's a picture of it in action. jayjay
Sounds about right... My S12T is nicer than my single EBS 410 but not quite as nice as two of them stacked together... However two EBS proline 410's weigh close to 200 lbs versus 40 odd for the S12T ...
Ok, last night was in a fairly large hall, typical wedding gig. Set up on stage, with PA support. It sounded great, plenty of top bite, big lows and good mids. Really it was great, nothing else to say really. I could hear myself in a loud band, and the PA did it's job. Not as big sounding as my abm410, but not far off at all. It would nor have quite been enough without Pa support, but everything was in the Pa as we always do and it was a big hall. Good stuff
I had the same experience bi-amping with my Warwick terminator and APM1000.. Was not worth the faffing around....
Maybe it's fallen out of fashion... it was all the rage in the 80s! A few years back I used to run a Bass Pod Pro bi-amp out into a stereo power amp driving (seperately of course) a 1x15 and a 4x8, crossing over around 200Hz if memory serves me correctly. Worked pretty well, but not markedly better than my other rig which was a GK RB400IV into a single vertical 2x10 so in the end the simplicity of the single head/cab won out. ficelles
Cor you learn summat every day... It does - by using the leds around the bass pot... Never noticed before.. :-)
It does indicate how far you are, if you are in mute mode. And personally, I always tune in mute.
-
If the Polytune used the same basic gubbins as the built in tuner in my RH450 then it's pretty good - as quick as my DTR1000... Although I would suggest getting the pedal extension for the RH450 as this indicates how far out you are whereas the amp display does not... Means I can usually tune in one tuner movement..

Except the valve jobbie would cost more to post :-) although of course the argument is that you could take it somewhere local :-) Is it me or is this all getting a little circular?
Because it shows the majority (£130) has nothing to do with class D, A, valves or solid state. The postman doesn't care
Also of course there are the following to consider.. 1. What your rig sounds like to you 6 feet in front of it.. 2. What your rig sounds like to your bandmates - usually off axis.. 3. What your rig sounds like FOH (plus the PA contribution). 4. What your rig sounds like mixed up with all the other noises being produced... It's a complex set of issues unless you're only interested in 1.
Agree. People don't have to be sheep, but they have to trust their ears. If they don't know any better, you can go round and round in circles reading latest opinions of what might work. Put the time in... check out people who have also done the same..and whose opinion you can relate to and you may get a frame of reference that amounts to something. Reminds me of a session I did when the engr told me I was out of tune...I didn't know at the time, so I went straight out and bought a tuner. You could ask why I didn't have one anyway..but I was young and my first time out. I now know and have the confidence to know when I am in tune or not..and I don't need a tuner to tell me. The same goes for my cabs...the amp and the bass, for that matter. IMO.
Damn you SiBob - I'm going to have to get my second S12T now :-) Cheers Mark

Look on the bright side, if we ever get a bass day sorted out again in the midlands, I can stack my S12 on top of your Compact - that should be an interesting rig.....
the neox212 is a good cab, but for me I could afford neither this nor the s12, hence the compact at my budget seemed like the one. Time will tell
-
Absolutely, the Neox is bigger, heavier, less efficient and has lower spec drivers than the S12T... I say go for it
No Decision - NeoX it is!
I write on a piano - I suppose because that was my first instrument and I learned it the old fashioned way through Grade 8.. I think playing the piano has stopped me from being able to play "strummy" guitar because the way you approach harmony in terms of playing is so different.. Bizarrely I've neve rhad an issue with bass, probably because walking bass lines and counterpoint are core techniques in piano playing.. I also find I get a different perspective on any track I play bass and keyboard versions on... Drums completely defeat me...

Darker I would agree with... You might want to try a Stac51 - all the same gizmos as the RH but differently voiced - or try and track down the USB/Midi config utilities for the RH450 to change the voicing that have been circulating on BassTalk...
-
+1 on the procells.. Fabulous for the money and come with a little plastic terminal cap so that you can't discharge them accidently... Interesting experience... I'm not sure I would characterise my RH450 as muddy, athough it's not as toppy as the Stac51.. It's certainly brighter than my mates Markbass 210 combo.... Is the RH set flat? and have you played with the input gain? Cheers Mark
Hi when comparing them side by side, they are very different, the Markbass is clearer, plays better with an outboard distortion pedal and is very good with the RS cabs but I found the RH450 a bit muddy, very good if you were playing Reggae or Dub but if I wanted that high glassier sound I couldn't achieve it. Not saying the RH450 is bad far from it just a totally different tone.
-
I've got a BF S12T and very happy with my RH450 - nice range of tones on offer... Probably worth giving a GB streamliner a go as well...
