1. Listen to Bill... As someone who rehearses with a MAG300 15 Combo I might be able to add some more detail... The MAG 300 only makes 180W into the internal (8 Ohm) speaker and just over 300W when you plug an external 8 Ohm Cab for a total impedence of 4 Ohm. From personal experience with an external 15" cab I can confirm that two speakers are louder than one. I've also replaced the internal Blue line driver with an Eminence Kappalite 3515C which although an improvement, in retrospect was not the most cost effective thing I've ever done :-) Although moving cone surface area is important (the 4 x 10 argument) speaker cone excursion is also important (XMAX) as well as cab design (ported vs sealed for instance). Also most 4 x 10's are bleeding heavy... Look in other threads on here for a discussion on VD and cab design... Cheers Mark
2. I love it when a plan comes together :-) Npw all we need to do is find Terry a nice 6x10 or 2 4x10's ... He has access to an active sub as well.. Cheers Mark
AMP NOW SOLD PENDING THE USUAL.
3. Are you selling the Pro or the Live? I suspect it's one or the other but it's not clear (to me anyway) . I suspect it's the Pro but you've listed the Live.. Cheers Mark
4. thanks folks... Seems a nice happy place to be..
5. Can we start on XMAX and VD soon? :-)
6. Found the following over on BGRA - may have some perspective... "Bartolini: "NS2TMB-183", 18 Volts. Bass This is Bill Bartolini's latest and most refined design. It is quieter and more transparent than anything else out there (108 dB S/N, THD .003% @ 100Hz) and really sounds good. To quote from the spec sheet "The (bipolar) +9V/ -9V system allows a completely DC coupled signal path. There are no capacitors to diminish in any way the low end punch, clarity and frequency response of the instrument". Bill has used wide bands that overlap slightly to avoid the honky sound of other midrange controls. The 250Hz mid could be useful as a cut option when recording." Now all we need to know are the benefits of a completely DC coupled signal path :-)
7. May also be worth pointing out that when I was looking to replace the 8 Ohm driver in my Ashdown MAG300 all the 4 ohm versions of the drivers were 3 db less efficient than the 8 Ohm ones .. So I I fitted an 8 Ohm 3015 Kappalite for obvious reasons.. Also as everyone says make sure your amp is guaranteed stable into 2 ohms....
8. Just thought I'd introduce myself, returning/recovering Bass/Keys from Stratford upon Avon.. Playing keys in one band and bass in the other, which is fun... The Bass player in my keys band has fallen in love with my Ashdown RPM-1/APM-1000 setup - so if anyone know of one going for sale just let me know and I'll point you at him/him at you... Cheers Mark
9.
Hi Mark. I've found Gumtree to be good for musicians ads, but there are a number of other sites like partysounds and joinmyband that others have found to be useful.
Cheers.. When I get over having really sore fingertips from overplaying I'll check them out :-)
10.
4001's and Hiwatt's are still up there in my books - welcome
:-) I suspect this is a common mid life crisis thing but it's really bitten again.... Plus there is so much good (great by late 70's/80's standards) gear around.. I fell for an Ibanez SR765 2003 MIJ and looking to start gigging again found a nice Ashdown EB300/15 with Kappa loaded MAJ 15" extension cab for £185.. It's clear the Kappa is a much nicer speaker than the Ashdown one :-) or it's in a better cab.. or both.. Now where do I look for a band these days? I suspect Melody Maker/NME are somewhat passe now :-) cheers Mark
11.
Welcome Mark & remember fashions do go full circle!
Cheers, I notice you have one of those new-fangled 4003 things :-)

Intro..

Just doing the intro thing after coming back to bass playing after a long time off.. When I left my Rickenbacker 4001 and HiWatt 200/2x15 setup was considered somewhat fashionable which tells you how long ago that was... Although I did rather like the WAL probass one of my mates had just bought at the time.. Now back with an Aria IGB-50 and Ashdown EB180/15. And impressed.... Tata for now.. Mark
