Buy the blue one (if you can without selling the other one) and see which is best. There’s a chance the Ruby Red may be the better bass for you.
(being a Rickenbacker, there’s more than a good chance in fact 🤷♂️)

I am thinking of getting a Euro 5 LX and I have one question for you Spector experts out there. Can anyone tell me if the standard Euro 5 LX with the EMG soapbars and Tonepump has the option to split the coils to single coil mode? I've seen a few videos of the LX 6 where the reviewers say you can do this, but none for the 5, and I can't see any information about it on the Spector website either.
Many thanks in advance.

That looks gorgeous Barrie. Congrats on getting it completed.

I guess the first question I’d like to ask is ‘where are the photos?’.

I like that there is now an option for a plain fretboard. Not keen on the red, but the black looks very nice.

That’s knocked the edge off my GAS for buying the tobacco burst. I think I might invest in an NS Pulse II instead.

Arriving at 8.30am this morning and weighing in at exactly 9lbs, here is my Ultra Violet Spectorbird Euro X.
I can't decide whether I like the back or the front better.

Just having some lunch and then I’m going to unpack my one.

Well, I’ve just paid the balance on a bass I ordered last year. I don’t know if that means I’m in or out 🤷♂️

Ah, I was just speaking with Bass Direct the other day about getting one of these....
It's the Chuck Rainey PJ and I don't think they make them any more, which is a bit of a shame.
They do have the J version as used at the moment, but I really wanted the PJ.
That 5'er does looks very nice, but yes, a bit on the weighty side.
I think I did a NBD thread last year sometime, but since this thread has been revived, I thought I would post an update.
In a strange twist of fate, I was told that one of these Chick Rainey PJ’s was up for sale.
After speaking with the seller and asking for the obligatory ‘more photos please’, it turned out the bass that he was selling was not only the same spec as above, but it was actually the same bass that he had bought from Bass Direct which I where I lifted this photo from.
The seller said he had hardly played it and when I received it, it was indeed in pristine condition. I could find no evidence of it actually being played at all.
What a lovely bass it is too. Far too good not to be played.
Strange how these things turn out.

Quite a powerhouse of a band to be fair...Yeah, probably putting a little too much effort in there. Not all drumsticks are they same though. I know some who prefer lighter sticks that don't last very long at all.
I used to play with a guy in a soul/funk outfit who used to go through a few steps per gig and he dirndl;t play particularly hard at all.

If I was a drummer she would of just made me quit.
Makes Keith Moon look like he was hitting his kit with feather dusters.
Love the moment at 4.06 when she hits the cymbal and a huge chunk of drumstick goes flying.
Never seen anyone destroy a drum kit quite like that.
Didn't strike me as too over the top to be honest, certainly not for the genre of music they play.
Chunks of wood fly off drumsticks. It happens, certainly when hitting cymbals at the angle she does.
YMMV, but she's not overplaying, which would really bug me.

Somewhat lacking in description and no obligatory gut shot. I've no need for a fretless either, but it does look nice....on the face of it.

Dawn Patrol - Bring On The Good Times album (2022) - Modern Yacht Rock. Groovy, feel-good music with hints of Steely Dan, Michael McDonald, Toto, Hall & Oates etc
I was just browsing for something to listen to for the drive up to my Dad’s this afternoon. It’s on iTunes, so I’ve downloaded it. Interestingly, they have it under ‘jazz’ in the genre description. Didn’t think that was your bag, but I’ll go with it 😎

not if you have 18 basses it woudn't!
Yeah, in my wife’s dreams I’ve only got 18 😂. 18 sets of strings would still last me decades.

Dingwall strings are great and have quickly become my favourites. Never had a dud string and great tone.BD don’t always have lots in stock so I also order from Thomann - last autumn I ordered 16 sets and they were in stock and delivered within 5 days so no problems with stock.
18 sets would last me several lifetimes and I gig a lot!

Use the 'off' switch then. It has a similar effect to the 'block' button on Basschat 🙄.

The buckeye top may see itself as star of the show but that rosewood board has to take a bow for best supporting role. Absolutely gorgeous throughout - I’d love to play this. Alas, shorties only for me now. Just for fun… what’s the nut width and string spacing on this?
The nut width on mine is 40.3mm. One would presume it would be very close to that.

19mm string spacing, but can be adjusted obvs. I would imagine the nut width would be standard Monarch size.
