Little Book of Ska - now plus gig vid!
hiram.k.hackenbacker replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
Strangely, in my rock covers band we do Mirror in The Bathroom which is great song and there seems to be a bit of a reluctance to play it in this ska band. Not sure why 🤷♂️ -

Very similar. I'm a bit confused as to why my lot don't do Israelites. That would seem to be a ska standard as far as I'm concerned, but I'm far from an expert. Nite Club makes an appearance now and again and I'm a bit sad when it's not in the set because I love playing it. There's a couple in there that I'm not familiar with, so I'm going to go and have a listen 👍. -

Yes, it is. They’re a good bunch and I’ve played with a couple of the band in various outfits over the years, so it’s a great atmosphere. Bizarrely there is only one song that crosses over to any of the other bands I’m in, so there has been a bit of homework prior to tonight’s rehearsal. I’m still questioning the wisdom of playing ‘Everything I Own’ at a wedding, but it’s not my band so 🤷♂️ -

Just been given the updated set for my dep gig this Saturday. All the usually suspects are present, but the there have been some additions that require my attention. Great to see Poison Ivy back in, but that means my back up bass will be tuned down a half step. They play it in the key as recorded and their regular bass player plays the low E high, which to my ear sounds odd. The set seems to be getting longer every time I play with these guys, but it makes a nice change compared to the material I usually play. -
I haven’t, but I think I’d try Bass Bros if I was trading. I know @molan and others really rate them.

How was your gig last night?
hiram.k.hackenbacker replied to bassninja's topic in General Discussion
How was my gig last night? Hot. Very hot. I may have melted a bit inside. It's the fourth time I've depped with this rock covers band and I'm kind of getting used to the way things happen. Not had one rehearsal with them as they don't rehearse and new songs keep getting added, but it just seems to work. I suppose it must be what a jam night is like, not that I've ever done one. -
Paul sent me a couple of sets of new strings for free that he'd picked up in a trade. They say you never get something for nothing - well, not so in this case! It gives me great pleasure in recommending @walshy yet again as one of Basschat's finest. Deal with confidence people. He is THE Bass Monkey Extraordinaire!

Bought's Mick's Bravewood Jazz. Super easy transaction and great communications. Buy with confidence from this Basschatter. Thanks again.

Mmm. This is a worry for me over a forthcoming build/purchase. I've certainly spent my fair share of cash there over the years, but thinking about it, I've never been faced with any issues with anything I've bought.

This one? They’re ‘the best tribute to Led Zeppelin’.

The least you could do is name the band here so we can all avoid them.

Not sure how you get sacked from a band you started. I’d take everything with me - cancel gig dates, protect the name and logos, the lot.

The stupidity of a wedding venue

I’ll tell you how the 10% won’t be incorporated - in my invoice. If they want to charge the extra 10%, they can take that up with the client. I don’t know where these people get their ideas from. -
Not me. Entirely down to @cetera.

It’s a custom run with those specs. May not be for everyone, but a shallower neck with a 1.5” nut is spot on for me 👍

Well, the inevitable happened. I managed to resist it when I first played it in April, but it came up for sale today and I am now officially out. Six months is a pretty good effort for me, so I take some comfort in that 😂.
