  1. Amusingly, a recent ad for my Limelight Precision was pulled by one of the popular FB bass Marketplace Groups whilst at the same time was approved by a couple of others. When I asked why, they said it was because they were worried about action from Fender. They had received communication from them in the past apparently. Accepted that you could probably removed it if you wanted to, by at least Limelight put a fairly obvious and indiscreet mark on the rear of the headstock to show what it is. I also found a similar mark in the neck pocket when I took it to bits yesterday. I have absolutely no problem with it as long as people aren’t doing it to deceive for financial gain. The only reason I had mine done is that I wanted a natural P which I could find anywhere and I wanted a J neck on it. I found a Fender CS that kind of fit the bill, but it was over £4K!
  2. I think Zappa did it a couple of times. I seem to remember Arthur Barrow and Patrick O’Hearn performing together.
  3. GLWTS = good luck with the sale 👍 EDIT: D’oh - snap 😂
  4. Is anyone here close enough to Bass Direct that they could pop in and have a look at something for me?
  5. The one that was listed on eBay just sold for £1,900 🤷‍♂️
  6. It’s very seldom that the gig rig makes an appearance indoors, but Mrs.H is at work and I have to keep eyes out front for a delivery for one of our neighbours, so I thought I would set it up and put the Smoothie through it. It does not disappoint!
  7. Yep, there is that as well. I've stayed in the Rickenbacker FB group just for comedy value. Same goes for the Fleetwood Mac FB group who seem to think that Stevie Nicks is the greatest female singer ever 🤷‍♂️.
  8. +1. I’ve owned quite a few over the years and whilst I would never dissuade anyone from investigating them, I do think they are an acquired taste. Possibly no different from any other bass 🤷‍♂️. I do wish I hadn’t sold my first one, but I was too young to know how to solve it’s issues and even then, I did find the bridge system frustrating. I know Fender get a lot of stick for the BBOT, but at least that actually works. I really don’t get sticking with something for so long that really doesn’t work that well. As @Killed_by_Death has stated, the 4004 solves my main gripes. I can put up with the dual truss rod, it’s not that difficult once you get used to duplicating the adjustment - or not if it’s really been messed with 😂. My 4004….
  9. Depends on what finish you’re after, but I’ll be surprised if David Wilson isn’t a lot less than that. Have you contacted him yet?
  10. I had never even considered that. I used to cycle to and from work for years and did start to feel it in the wrists in the last few years before our whole unit was abruptly moved to a base too far for me to cycle to. I wonder if my issues are related to that. The more I think about the pain I used to get, the more I think it might be. A dull but piercing pain in my left palm where the finger joints are. It comes and goes, but it’s definitely less with narrower necks. Something to think about. Thanks.
  11. Popped it out of the case again this evening for a quick noodle and it is a quality instrument - and you're right, it's as new.
  12. I have a short scale Status S2 and it’s fabulous. All of the sound and none of the issues I normally have with wider necks/my ailing left hand. One of the best things I did buying that.
  13. I can’t see the radius having much impact on your situation and if it did, I would have thought a smaller radius would help. I presume your are commenting on how things are when you are playing in a standing position? Maybe shortening the strap a small amount may improve things?
  14. What is it you are playing at the moment and are there any issue with it regarding neck dive?
  15. I had this black and gold Limited Edition Stingray at one point. It was a lovely bass and a good gold combination IMHO, but it was like having a boat anchor hanging around your shoulders 😬.
  16. I’ve had some lovely offers of trade for this and thank you one and all, but I’m really looking for a sale.
  17. Picking up the bass for the first time at 53? You have my total respect. Well done you and congrats on your 10th Anniversary.
  18. I can’t speak for you or anyone else, but once I started making charts to use whilst playing, I found it quite difficult to do without them. I’d say practice, practice, practice and try and get through the set without them. You’ll be thankful for it when you can.
  19. I read posts like this and it makes me think how lucky I must be. In the four decades I’ve been playing in bands, I’ve only ever had one disagreement. It was a re-boot of a long standing function band with a few changes in personnel. The new guitarist was complete tool and I walked after the first rehearsal. Good post and thanks for sharing. I wish you all the best in your new format.
  20. David Wilson. Look no further. He’s on FB. @walshy knows him well and will attest to his talents.
