  1. I think you’ll find that’s a Stingray 😂 I’m joking, but this did occur to me when I read the FB comments. I’ve played a few SLO ‘Ray’s over the years and nobody ever says they are not a proper Stingray - or do they and I just haven’t noticed 🤷‍♂️
  2. I probably should have added that I don’t give a stuff what they think, it sounds like a P bass to me. I’ve had a few decent Precisions in my time from standard to Custom Shop and I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference by sound alone. It’s just I don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard that comment before and wondered if I’d missed that it was generally accepted to be the case. It would appear not 😂. I certainly didn’t want to kick off another tonewood argument. No-one needs another one of those 🙄😂
  3. This is not an attempt at further advertising my sale, but I put my Limelight on FB Marketplace this evening and it received these comments regarding the fact that it's a P bass with a J neck. Person #1 - "That's surely the wrong way around. Jazz body with a precision neck imho It's the neck that gives the thunder on a precision...." Person #2 - "I don't think a slightly wider nut width and string spacing "gives it thunder." Person #3 - "no it doesn't but a proper fat P bass neck has a lot more timber than a slim jazz neck. That extra timber does make a lot of difference. Far more than high mass bridges etc." Person #2 - "Well, let's face it, the totally different pickup configuration makes a bigger difference still." Person #3 - "well ok sure, but pick up a P bass & play without plugging it into anything, still sounds like a P bass, do the same with a jazz, still sounds like a jazz. I do it all the time. I have 2 of each." It struck me as a bit of an odd thing to say. What say you Basschat?
  4. Ah, so it was an auction item that had bids on it? Still unfair, but that makes a bit more sense. All mine are fixed price/buy it now.
  5. Yes, I had an email from eBay saying the payment system is changing for me on 31/5/21. I haven’t read the T’s & C’s yet, but having read the comment from @hooky_lowdown regarding listing cancellation, if you had something on automatic re-list, how do you avoid paying a cancellation fee? Or do you just leave it on eBay forever?
  6. Having said that, I have an octaver, delay and distortion on my board already and also have that envelope filter in it’s box, so I could make use of them, but the Future Impact takes up so much room*, there’s no space for the MXR at the moment. *I know there is a fix for that, but I can’t be bothered 😬
  7. It’s fine if you have the time and patience to dial in each sound from that array of pedals, but it’s not very practical from a gigging bassists point of view. Not that you would ever play that selection of songs in the same set, but a single synth pedal with patches would make life a lot easier on the fly. His set up is fine for recording, but I think I’ll stick with my Future Impact and Boss SY-1.
  8. That’s a shame. I’ve always found both Rob and Dawn very approachable. I’m sure he would have been interested in looking at it for you.
  9. Slight derailment, but what was Rob’s response?
  10. Ah, it wasn’t a proper bass then! Its a joke, it’s a joke 😂😂
  11. That’s odd, I’ve not had one issue with any of the Status basses that I’ve owned and I played the first one a heck of a lot.
  12. I was beginning to get fidgety even by the time I reached 'one of the best bass lines of all time' which features in a Dizzy Rascal tune - who knew? Super dope. Yeah, he's probably half right.
  13. The spec above has been amended to include most of what you’ve asked, although I can’t seem to find where I’ve hidden my radius gauges. One would have thought they would have been with the calipers, but not so unfortunately. I have a feeling I loaned them to my friend a while ago. I shall retrieve them forthwith 😀. I’ve had a look back through my conversations with Mark and we didn’t discuss neck radii during the build process, so you could be right about it being 10”, but I will confirm for you in due course. It doesn’t feel much different to any of my other Jazz basses, but I’ll get back to you with a definitive answer 👍.
  14. I would go and get my measuring tools from the garage right now if it wasn't blowing a storm out there. I will update the spec tomorrow. I would say that the neck is very slightly deeper than my other jazz basses, but not significantly so. Neck depth is something I'm quite sensitive to and I think it's very comfortable.
  15. This is my first ever Lakland. Having bought it from @three last year, I can't believe it took me so long. I also can't believe he sold it 😀. It's an absolute belter! Looking at all these other lovely examples, it's definitely got me thinking about adding another to the collection one day. EDIT: You probably all know anyway, but it's a 44-64 Bob Glaub. Case courtesy of @Misdee.
  16. Back up for sale - but please read again as there are significant changes (in blue) There is a whole thread about the genesis of this bass which I will attach to the bottom of this ad, but essentially I commissioned Mark to build this for me for a charity gig where we performed the Queen set from Live Aid. At that time, John Deacon had stripped one of his vintage P's to natural and it was used for the gig. He later painted it black as seen on the '86 Magic Tour. Please note that this Precision bass has a Jazz profile neck Other than some light playing at home, it has been used only for the rehearsals and subsequent charity gig. Commissioned 10/4/19 - Completed 6/7/19 - Received by me 10/7/19 - Gigged 23/11/19 The spec on this bass is: 1968 Precision in Natural Light Relic Alder body (upcharge for superior wood selection) Rosewood fretboard with clay dots Weight 8.46lbs J width neck Neck depth at 1st fret: 22.55mm Neck depth at 12th fret: 25.32mm Neck width at nut: 37.41mm Neck width at 12th fret: 55.36mm Neck radius: 10" Hand rolled finger board edges Aged nitro finish on the neck Tortoiseshell scratchplate Vintage reverse Gotoh tuners Aged finish in nitro-cellulose, very light relic Tarnished metal work (but not rusty - yeah right 😂) - This is the reason this bass was withdrawn. It had been sold pending payment and I happened to get it out of its case for a quick noodle. As it hadn't been played for a while, I plugged it into the tuner and noticed the intonation on the A string was slightly out. I attempted to adjust this and found that I couldn't as the intonation screws were solid. In fact, the whole bridge was unadjustable! I removed the bridge from the bass, during which the A string snapped at the tuning peg, which was bit odd as the bass has barely been played. Anyway, I tried everything from soaking the whole bridge in lubricant to brute force. Eventually, all the intonation screws relented, but the saddle height screws were having absolutely none of it. I binned them in the end and ordered some new ones. These ones are shiny as you can see from the photos and the rest of the bridge is as it was. If you would prefer, I can put all of the new bridge on to match the saddles, or you can have it as it is. I don't know what Limelight do to artificially age their parts, but they need to stop, or do it less at the very least. Apparently it's a known issue, but unfortunately, I didn't know or I would have specified 'new' hardware. As mentioned above, as a result of the bridge removal, the A string snapped at the tuning peg. This bass is now wearing a new set of Rotosound RS77LD 45-105 Monel Flatwounds as per John Deacon's preference. Yeah, they're not cheap, but it's not going to cost you extra and neither is the new bridge. If you really don't like flats, I can put a set of round wounds on it for you at no extra cost. Hootenanny button on the back of the headstock Thumb rest below G string Alnico pick ups Vintage wired CTS pots and Spraque cap Switchcraft Jack Period correct Fender Big TV logo (as per pictures) Comes in an old, but functional hard case. Shipping update - If you are within a reasonable distance, I'm sure we can work out a meet somewhere. I live in South Essex, but do travel up to relatives in Colchester. I'm also gigging in Derbyshire at the end of this month (July 2021). Failing that, for £50, you can take part in @walshy's 'man with a van' experience. I've tried it and it's great - a total peace of mind service at an affordable price. I would have to double check with him depending on your location, but he has done one long run for me at that price, so I'm hopeful. He's also done many trips for @walshy as well as a few other people I know on Basschat. This is the link for the bass on Limelight web site. Photos - all photos are representative of the bass as it is now apart from the new shiny saddles and the flat wound strings mentioned above. I have included one photo at the bottom of how the bridge is now. This is the link for the thread I started on Basschat about this bass. Apologies for the quality, but here is a short video of its one and only outing. It does exactly what it says on the headstock.
  17. Ah right, yes, that could be an issue with your current bass. Not impossible to rectify, but you would probably be better of with an upgrade. I would never steer anyone away from fan frets. They are quite easy to get on with for most. I would concur with an extended try out. Maybe a Basschatter with one is close to you?
  18. Funny you should mention Bananarama. One of the new songs we've just added is this version of Venus. We rehearsed it for the first time last week and it sounds great. If you're playing 2 hours of 80's tunes, you have to have a bit of cheese in there. It never ceases to amaze me what goes down well. We've played theatres up and down the country. Everyone goes nuts for 'Real Gone Kid', pretty much anything by Wham, 'Never Gonna Give You Up', 'Karma Chameleon' etc etc....
  19. So you're saying you need a 305 rather than a 300?
  20. In answer to question 1, no, I don't think that is normal at all. In respect of question 2, nobody tells me to buy anything. If they 'asked' me whether I would consider it, I would have to question why and take it from there. We need more information @SteveXFR.
  21. It's ironic that you should choose to use a literary analogy. I think even in Shakespeare's era, using capital letters for the city of London was commonplace. Unlike when using capital letters for the words 'Bass' and 'Player' in a sentence like 'Why should every Bass Player worship Status Quo? Or indeed using capital letters for the word 'Game-Changing'. While we're at it, is that a guitar in your avatar? Off to The Tower with you 😂 P.S. I can use capitals for that as it refers distinctly to The Tower of London which is a large building historically used for incarcerating ne'er-do-wells, probably somewhere in your vicinity. P.S.S. As much as I loathe myself for chiming in on the subject matter of this very odd thread, I've always been of the mind that love them or hate them, anyone who dismisses Status Quo out of hand as 'three chord wonders' really....................need a good talking to!
  22. Why should every bass player worship Status Quo? Is it because of the BPM they can achieve? 🙄
