4-string with octave pedal instead of 5-string?
hiram.k.hackenbacker replied to Caz's topic in General Discussion
Right tools for the job I'm afraid. If you're going to be playing those types of tunes and you want to do it authentically, you'd be best getting a fiver. That said, I find some tunes easier to play in drop D on a four, like Beat It for example. Judging by that video, you'll pick both up in no time. -
Which drummer you would like to have played with?
hiram.k.hackenbacker replied to Bassman Sam's topic in General Discussion
Far too many to choose from. In the interest of picking a few names that haven’t already been mentioned: Phil Collins, Chester Thompson, Chad Wackerman or Jean-Paul Gaster. -

I’m with you there @Rich. I’m not terribly taken with the shape, but I could live with it and that buckeye WITH the blue just doesn’t work for me in any way. The blocks would also annoy me as I’m quite partial to no markings on the face of the fretboard and if I was ordering a custom, that’s what I would specify. Hipe you enjoy your new bass.

I hear you loud and clear brother. There are far cheaper alternatives to Apple, BUT, I really can’t talk. I’m pretty much fully converted to Apple - in fact, the whole house is. The knack to keeping ahead of the curve is updating the iPad fairly regularly and selling the old stuff before it represents too much of a financial loss. It’s at a cost, but it gives me piece of mind. I know where everything is, it’s secure, it’s backed up and I literally use my pad for everything. Rehearsing (plugged into a Bass Buddy), sheet music (OnSong), recording through Garage Band, sharing music/docs via Dropbox and very occasionally looking at Basschat 😂. It’s sad, but I would feel like I had lost a limb without it.

You’ve fallen into the classic trap of thinking that I’m generalising when in fact I’m being specific about one particular female. Feel free to take it up with her. I wish you good luck.

Full disclosure: My experience with JamKazam up until this point has been using an ethernet cable with a fairly decent wi-fi extender (plug in the wall job). JamKazam does work well with this, but I have now purchased a 15m Cat7 cable which is just about long enough to reach the router directly rather than using the extender. The difference, and I quote the singer, ‘is night and day’. Whilst it worked for me quite well, the extender caused issues with the other participants to the extent they were fighting a very slight lag. There was also, I know realise, a compromise in audio quality. We have another rehearsal tomorrow and I’m really looking forward to it. Through JamKazam this new band, who have never been in the same room together, have got a two hour set chosen and rehearsed to a near gig ready status. -
Mmm, I maybe mistaken, but I think there maybe a few laws in existence preventing the sale of children. Handbags though! I did not know they could cost as much as a bass 😲.

Which of course is ‘I’m not sure, do you have a favourite pair of shoes or a favourite handbag?’.

New EBMM Stingray Special Colours and Prices
hiram.k.hackenbacker replied to Eldon Tyrell's topic in Bass Guitars
No, for $2000 you get a limited set of standard options on the M21-J and I don't see anything special listed there. Anything above that you will be paying extra for. I'm curious as to what Valenti can do that Shuker can't, but since you are unwilling to share the details of your 'super Jazz' it's impossible to comment further. I do agree, we're now off topic, so I'll wish you luck and look forward to the NBD thread when you're done. -

Ah yes, that’s the one. Didn’t think it was Sadowsky, but couldn’t put my finger on it. -

There was one for sale here recently with that on. It was a Sadowsky wasn’t it? Valenti used to work for Roger, so could be right. Reason enough for me not to buy. -
New EBMM Stingray Special Colours and Prices

Each to their own, but I don’t see the attraction. Incredible value? Just browsing the web site I see a fairly ordinary Fender-a-like 4 string for $3250 featuring Hipshot/Nordstrand - and that’s their 2020 pricing! Would be interested to know what that works out to once it’s been imported. There’s a few other basses I would rather spend my money on and I would be more impressed if you wanted to support small builders in the UK rather than the USA. But hey, it’s your money. -

If I was after another Jazz type bass, I wouldn't be looking across the Atlantic for it that's for sure. It depends what you're after, but there are options here. Classic & Cool Guitars can build you a J (I had this Precision built by them recently) or if you need something a little more shiny, maybe contact Shuker or build it yourself. I built the Jazz in my sig from bits and pieces and its every bit as good as the Fender CS it was based on. I haven't played much else since. -

I made it through January unscathed 🥳 -
Is there anyone else on Basschat into these? They are a series of six live albums issued in limited editions recorded during the 90’s and being released piece meal through 2020 and 2021. I knew the fourth one was coming out soon and kept checking the page on Bowie’s site for updates. Typical that during the couple of days last week I failed to check, it was announced for pre-order and has sold out almost instantly. To say I’m p’d off is an understatement. I know I could stream it, but that’s not the point. I really would like the CD. It’s called ‘Look At The Moon - Live from The Phoenix Festival ‘97’. If anyone has extra copies pre-ordered (I suspect that is why it has sold out so quickly) and is willing to part with one for not silly money, you would make a fellow Bowie collector very happy indeed. They ship on the 12th of Feb.

I have to be honest, I would probably give Jamulus a try, but literally everyone I’m rehearsing with on line is using JamKazam and now they’re settled with how it works, I think it will be a struggle getting them to swap. -
