Notable basses belonging to basschatters
toneknob replied to EBS_freak's topic in General Discussion
Had one of these until a 3 or 4 years ago. Traded it in for another notable (but more for provenance than looks) - John Giblin's Takamine TB-10 that he used for Kate Bush's 'Before The Dawn' shows -

Why is picking a band name so bloody hard?
toneknob replied to Newfoundfreedom's topic in General Discussion
And my best advice is decide on the name before forming the band, so it doesn't get done by committee. Proof - my last band was called Velcro Pelmet (by committee and approx 1 million emails) -

Yes got their name because one of them thought short name = bigger letters on billboard outside gig It's than Mabel Greer's Toyshop anyway -
Pirate Rehearsal studio? Crystal Maze more like...

I used one a couple of days ago. A previous user had left some fairly valuable and easy-losable things in the room, so I got on the webchat (by phone) with someone at Pirate HQ. Ok, here's the code for the locker room. In there locker X is the lost property. Here's the combination for the padlock on that locker. I got into the locker room ok. However the code for the padlock didn't work. Given it was home time for me and the turnaround of the webchat wasn't massively quick, I had to stash the lost property in the room somewhere and let them know. The last reply from HQ was slightly panicky, but there you go for not having anyone on site. And don't ask my drummer about the kit quality. My Ashdown combo was ok but I set it all flat anyway. -
Aha. Thanks chaps. Yes my misconception/assumption is that I am "playing" the editor (having loaded up a preset) - assumption based on thinking that the MIDI out from the pedal into the interface being some kind of signal path that would make its way back to the editor, or out of the interface headphone socket. (As I said I am 100% newbie at this kind of thing). To be certain though - what should my settings be in the MIDI|Preferences dialog box?
-
Ok, so now I'm updated, I'm having a fiddle with the editor. I've loaded a preset, and when I "play" the editor with the on-screen keyboard I don't hear anything. In the MIDI|Preferences dialog I've got FI Input Device and Output Device both set to "Quad Capture", Keyboard Input Device set to "off". When I set the Output Device to my normal Microsoft setting, I get a sound but it's a default piano sound. Any suggestions? Thanks!

All sorted - starting the browser after connecting and powering up the pedal did the trick. Thanks! (can Roland Quad Capture be added to the list of tested interfaces now?) btw - confirmed regarding the keyboard symbol by the address bar when I go to the update page (which I guess is academic now that the update is complete)
-
Thanks - After, the interface is already connected to my PC and powers up at PC startup time. Does the power-on time of the pedal (compared to browser start-up) make any difference? I'll have to check for the keyboard symbol next time, will advise accordingly.

Thanks, I'm trying the Chrome updater. I've got as far as this, any idea what I should do now? I've got the pedal powered up and connected to the Quad Capture box by two MIDI leads.
-
I am but a simple bass player and I want to update my FI (v1, I think) to v3. I know precious little about MIDI and plugging in anything that isn't a jack lead. I have a Roland Quad Capture audio interface that has MIDI sockets on the back (see https://www.roland.com/uk/products/quad-capture/). Can I update my FI using this? If not please explain using short words what I need to do. Thanks!

If you've not seen it before, check out user Hafferson on youtube https://www.youtube.com/user/Hafferson/videos -
New Moon also. As well as the above benefits, you can specify at home/UK/worldwide cover, to help keep the cost down.

I had a Moog Taurus servied by these guys - https://synthservice.com/ based in NW London. Also have a look at RL Music https://www.facebook.com/RLMusic/ (their normal website seems to be offline) from Reading, and they also pointed me at KSR in south-west London.

I was rather fond of Gizmodrome (front row at their Scala gig helped) but in a strange bit of overlap my suggestion would be Oysterhead - Stewart Copeland, Trey Anastasio and Les Claypool. Now I love the Police, Phish and Primus but Oysterhead just didn't click. They'vejust announced some reunion shows for some time in 2020, coincidentally.

Also, Tourfilm from the 1988 Green Tour is second only to Stop Making Sense when it comes to convert films.

New Adventures was the last good one. I saw them at Brixton Academy in 2003 and it was some anniversary of recording Fables of the Reconstruction so they played Feeling Gravity's Pull/Maps and Legends/Driver 8/Life and How To Live It - after that they could have played anything from Up or Reveal and it wouldn't have mattered

Geddy's Lee's Big Beautiful Book of Bass
toneknob replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
A side effect of going to the signing is that I now have two copies. Anyone want my unsigned copy? Probably first edition but I'd have to check. £20 to you and happy to meet somewhere south/south-east London to exchange (eg Waterloo, London Bridge etc). I've flicked through it a couple of times before getting exhausted at its weight, so it's still in extremely good nick. -

I was pretty much at the back of the queue at a Brian May signing for his "Woo, Space" book and by that time he was clearly knackered but with the end in sight he was ok to take a bit more time to talk. And he was quite happy to see my copy of the Star Fleet Project EP rather than another Greatest Hits or The Works.
