  1. This happened to float past on the music player this morning - Surrounded by Dream Theater. After the first verse or two, the instrumental kicks in, 9/8
  2. This sounds like it should be recurring comic strip in Viz
  3. Oooh, controversial. Do you prefer the Tokyo Tapes version, with neither intro nor keys solo in the middle? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVw7KgmD3Gs about 12mins in) That intro for time sig fans: ||: 4/4 12/8 2/4 4/4 13/8 :|| 4/4 ||: 13/8 :|| x4 ||: 15/8 :|| x4 ||: 4/4 13/8 :|| x3 4/4 12/8 2/4 4/4 12/8 2/4 4/4 13/8 4/4 12/8 2/4 4/4 4/4 4/4 4/4
  4. Those Tod songs with Jon Anderson are amazing. Look for State Of Independence, Heart Of The Sunrise, Owner of a Lonely Heart, and Roundabout as well
  5. Try playing along to the original of Dance On A Volcano if it's speeding up you're after. (Also there's some 11/8 in the coda, to stay on topic)
  6. Also Discipline, read all about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discipline_(instrumental)
  7. Incidentally Tool and others like King Crimson etc are big on polymetry as well as odd time sigs: for example one guitar playing in 7/8 and the other in 5/8. A good example of this (with these exact time sigs) is B'Boom/Thrak by Crimson, written in their Double Trio persion (mid 90s). One trio plays in 5/8 while the other in 7/8. 7m17s onwards:
  8. The instrumental of Robbery, Assault and Battery by Genesis is 13/8, but they group it differently throughout, eg 6&7, 4&9 etc, starts at 2m37s
  9. And the main bit of Awaken starting at 2m20s
  10. Yes are mad for an 11. Here's the Gates Of Delirium with the 11/4 instrumental starting at 13m30s
  11. Ed's column in pre-merge BP was an absolute delight. Looking forward to this.
  12. How about the train? You'll easily make the 11.30pm train from Paddington. The King Crimson shows I saw at the Palladium in November finished about 10.30pm, if that's any help.
  13. I saw in the news earlier that as it's so close to Chinese New Year that they're going to be merged into a single event, Chinese Burns night. I wasn't going to bother with it but someone twisted my arm
  14. Genesis tribute bands - four of them over a 10-12 year period. Some of the audience members can be a bit special. Mind you same goes for some of the band members
  15. While this exists I am totally cool with keytars. Especially 1m27s onwards.
  16. I tried to adapt this for my band's logo, failed (I am terrible with graphics). We are a 70s/80s jazz-rock band, yes keyboard player has a keytar. It always goes down a storm!
  17. Agreed, well said bilbo and spectoremg. I'm not sure there were many other bands tuning a 12-string to dDgGaDeGbbee for a single song. Here's a good bit of bumph about it https://www.guitarplayer.com/technique/decoding-the-12-string-tapestry-of-early-genesis
  18. That's pretty much what got me into the band ... that Slipperman section around 13 minutes in, wow
  19. Some of his bass lines were rather "written by a guitarist" if you see what I mean. But that made them quirky and go places they otherwise wouldn't have done. Agreed that his bass-playing went downhill when he took over guitar duties from Steve Hackett. Anyway, still got my Shergold from when I used to do Genesis tribs, Moog Taurus just out of shot under right foot.
  20. Is it the world's heaviest book? Buy now and save yourself £30! That's a new set of strings in the bag right there.
  21. I too am a massively smug £18.59 early adopter. Might not be here in time for someone to buy it off me to give back as a Christmas present. Luckily I've got a birthday in mid-January
  22. I lost a favourite T-shirt from Prague when I played Secret Garden Party in a downpour and had to change behind the stage. It was this "beware of tanks" shirt, bought in the alleys along the riverside near Karlov Most. Look out for one for me! (ps this wasn't taken in Prague)
