Who on Basschat has the most expensive bass?
toneknob replied to Jonny Walker's topic in General Discussion
1990 Marlin Slammer. £70. -
Yes! How long has that been gone?? Life is short. Edit: Just Googled it. It's been closed for EIGHT YEARS.
really? I never noticed My monitor/pigeon incident would've been in the mid-90s by the way. You could drive all the way down James St to the piazza then, I seem to remember.

Remember the Rock Garden? underneath what is now the Apple Shop on the piazza in Covent Garden. After a sound check there I exuberantl jumped off stage, and in mid air crack my head on one of the overhead monitors. Feeling a bit woozy (it was bleeding a bit) I went outside for some fresh air and sat down on the kerb at the side of the market. And got sh@t on by a pigeon

The Lambeth Country Show has got something for everyone: jousting, sheepdog trials, wheelbarrow decoration, camel racing, prize-winning, fruit and veg, sheep shearing, ferociously strong Chucklehead Cider sold in polystyrene cartons. It takes place in Brockwell Park, handy for Herne Hill, Brixton, Tulse Hill and surrounding areas. All that AND a session from my jazz/rock fusion band Velcro Pelmet. We're on at 4pm at the Village Green Oxjam Takeover stage. Lets hope it doesn't clash with the jousting. More info: https://www.facebook.com/VelcroPelmet/ http://lambethcountryshow.co.uk See you there!
£35! Makes the festival day ticket at £52 seem like super value. Funny thing was I saw the drummer setting up at LS and he looked like the most laid back person there.
I liked his hair and sunglasses! Yep, If I could have made LS I'd have happily gone along for Esperanza/Stanley/SMG then wandered off home happy.
Lianne Le Havas - Class act. Really enjoyed this set. Genuinely lovely and a great singer. Freda? from Native dancer was on backing vocals and the band were great. Bass player was flipping between a Ripper and a P. The Ripper won and sounded awesome through a vintage ampeg and not what I expected in this type of music but it really worked.
She's great isn't she. I caught her on Jools a few years ago doing a solo set and Mrs Knob was also keen from the get-go. We've seen her a few times in London venues and various festivals (perhaps even an early Love Supreme).
Stanley Clarke - Stanley was/is obviously amazing and he and his alembics sounded great (through 2 ampeg 8x10) but his drummer was really not my thing. He made animal out of the muppets seem like Des O'connor. I've never seen anyone look like they want to destroy their kit with such a brutal assault. Stanley seemed to love him though so what do I know Missed Eric Truffaz while watching Stanley but a mate said he was fantastic. I did catch his bass player sound checking and he was great.
See what you mean about Stan's drummer. Have a look whose name is over the door, sunshine. Otherwise we heard Pork Pie, a bit of Lopsy Lu and some of Captain Senor Mouse. A bit disappointing overall though - I saw Stan with Hiromi earlier in the year for a much more musical and satisfying experience. Perhaps I'm getting sensible in my middle years! It was a 90-minute set, and some guy said to the security man on the way out "why was it so short?" (of course security man was clueless). I can see where he's coming from for a £35 ticket, especially when showtime was advertised for 8.30, actual stage time was 9pm, curfew at 10.30. Stan wanted to do more but was under pressure from the venue to clear off. The new Jazz Cafe is pretty swish mind you - they've got rid of that bar that created the terrible bottleneck and the place has a much more open feel.
Fantastic player. Only musician I saw all day playing a fretless... I forgot to to mention she had some sort of mechanism on her waist where she hooked her bass on dispensing the need for a strap. Not seen that before. Might be of interest to those here who have shoulder probs...
Yep, I saw her at the Barbican a couple of years ago doing the Chamber Music show. Bit polite for me, so I was slow on the uptake with D+Evolution, which is a smashing album. Sad to have missed the show, but I'm seeing Stanley tonight at the Jazz Caff and Giuliana later in the year - those three were the main attractions for the weekend for me.

Did you catch Esperanza Spalding? edit: I've actually read your post properly now.

Looking forward to the London gig tonight. Stage time there is 8.30pm, 11pm curfew if that's any help. No support.

yes, that's a year gone very quickly. Still a huge sound in my ears today and for many years. There's probably a legion of bc readers on the edges of their seats ready to give recommendations if asked... (Fragile, The Yes Album, Relayer would be my top three albums)
I think you're out of luck. It should be before Time Is Running Out and it isn't. The iplayer version doesn't seem to include it. I expect it got the chop, probably for the same reason as Adele's set when she f***ed up River Lea. It was the first time she had performed that live though.
Oh, that's a shame. Thanks for looking anyway. For the rookie Muse-o, what songs would you recommend from the Glastonbury set?
-
It's 13 of 19. Go here.... Posted this on the other Glasto thread, now realised this is the better place... Can someone who knows Muse better than me tell me at what time Hysteria pops up in the set? I don't know any other songs and I don't want to listen to the whole thing. Thanks! Here's the iPlayer link. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p03xs070/glastonbury-2016-muse

Lee Poms gets around doesn't he? Can someone who knows Muse better than me tell me where Hysteria pops up in the set? I don't know any other songs and I don't want to listen to the whole thing. Thanks! http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p03xs070/glastonbury-2016-muse
Also I know it's a cliche to moan about festival toilets, but I'm a festival veteran and even for me, these were the most disgusting toilets I've ever seen. Yesterday, I saw a toilet with a turd on the seat, with an apprehensive cockroach sat next to it. It was quite unnerving.
I saw Apprehensive Cockroach supporting Blur at the Good Mixer in 1991. Crazy times.

Coldplay at Glastonbury zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Meanwhile LCD Soundsystem were on at the same time on the Other Stage. I've just watched on iPlayer, amazing. -
I was standing behind him in the queue for the movies recently. I said hi, within two sentences he'd made a willy joke. Good lad. He's great with Steven Wilson, and he was in John Paul Jones' band at one point as well which must have been something. He was ok with Hackett, but no Lee Pomeroy.
Probably their most consistent album - at least from the ones I've heard - and very accessible. Wasn't it Strangeways that the band themselves thought was their best?
Wikipedia says 'Morrissey and Marr feel the album is the band's best, with Morrissey asserting that, "We say it quite often. At the same time. In our sleep. But in different beds"' I can't remember which is my favourite, but thanks to this thread I'll give them a listen again with fresh ears after a few years away.

There are quite a few Smiths singles that don't appear on their regular albums, so you may miss out on some top tracks by sticking to Best Ofs or Greatest Hits etc. Having said that I can't think of any decent examples right now so I'm hoping someone who knows what they're talking about will be along soon to help me out here.

The Queen Is Dead is a smashing album.
