1. Good job. I hope they get a new carpet as well, I've not been the same since sitting on it for that Juan Alderete demo
2. What's in the previous Wunjo bass shop now by the way?
3.
Vordeman and Riley? I don't think it's called that any more.
Two from the top, the rest from the bottom please.
4.
** three if you include V&R.
V&R isn't there any more, it's quite helpfully called "No Tom Vintage & Classic Guitars", seriously. https://notomguitars.com/
5. This takes the sting out of not being able to see Mark Giuliana at Love Supreme in July (a bit)
6. ...and I've just received the "stage splits and timings" email as well!
7. Fans of Blackstar and Tim Lefebvre might be interested to know that Donny McCaslin and band - the team on Blackstar - are playing at this years Jazz Festival in November. http://www.efglondonjazzfestival.org.uk/events/info/donny-mccaslin
8. Thanks! Didn't look hard enough. But dammit all I want to see is on Saturday - and all in a row in the Big Top. What a line-up - Esperanza, S/M/G, Stanley Clarke.
9. I've not seen the day splits yet - where are you looking? The main website doesn't say (yet)
10. Like previous years, all the good stuff is happening in the side tents. Add Scofield/Mehldau/Giuliana to your list btw! I can only go on the Sunday this time around so I'm hoping all the good stuff happens then.
11. I quite liked the Georgian entry, especially the middle bit with the electronica/effects pedals bit. I wanted to see what he was using so put the youtube on full-screen and used the quarter-speed setting to see what was going on. Turns out he's playing through cakes, or possibly plasticine. Ffwd to about 2m07s for the close-up zoom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rviE2-9eiTI
12. Great name for a band btw
13. You're right, there's loads of prog being made these days. Getting audiences to go see it is another story though. I'm currently working my way through all the cover CDs given away with Prog magazine. Some of it is amazing, some less so. Favourites so far: Motorpsycho, The Fierce And The Dead, Trioscapes, Hedvig Mollestad, The Grand Astoria, Mumpbeak, Schnauser. And I'm only on Vol 20 so far. (I could add others like A Formal Horse, Elephant9, The Far Meadow, aforementioned Knifeworld, for example)
14.
Love this groove but hate the lyrics so much I can't listen to it
Well I'm sure I have no idea what you bah doo bah wee ooooo mean.
15. Omar, There's Nothing Like This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFnclBOlr6o
16. Well I enjoyed Tony Levin as The Chauffeur
17. And Trevor Horn will be joining the band at the Royal Albert Hall in a few days for their run-through of Drama. Meanwhile, Anderson Rabin Wakeman have an album out later this year. I'm holding out for the Benoit/Bruford/Moraz/Khoroshev line-up doing the Relayer/Tormarto/90125 tour next year. Tony Kaye on synth bass.
18. New Moon here as well. I have an annual policy but it has in-car cover, also you can specify whether instruments are covered just at home/studio or out and about. Handy for that '54 P-bass that doesn't get gigged any more.
19.
Not really looking to buy another Slammer but thanks for the offer! - FWIW I think you should hold onto it, like you say it's a sentimental keepsake for you, which was really what my original post was about...I think it's great to be able to look back at your first Bass..
Totally dig where you're coming from, but (a) it's taking up space and (2) Mrs Knob has requested a one-in one-out policy. While we're on the subject, there's a "VINTAGE! RARE! 1980 Marlin Slammer (Fender Precision)" on eBay right now, BINOBO £220. I'll stick mine on at £119.95 and see what happens (and I've still got the thumb rest - somewhere)
20.
Mine was a black Marlin slammer P-Bass copy with a maple fingerboard. Bought for £25 in 1988. I now know it was an awful Bass, but at the time I didn't know any different and I did some serious learning on that thing! Often wish I still had it, just for nostalgia.
I'm another who lost their bottom-end virginity to a Marlin Slammer. Still got it, mine is red with white scratchplate, maple (or "maple") neck, single P-style split pickup. Bought from St Mary's Music in Southampton in late 1989 for maybe £70. I'm not sure why they get the grumbles I've seen when googling around, mine is nothing great but plays fine, has ok action and the hardware is in good nick. I'm about to move house so am thinking of selling it on as it's just a sentimental keepsake at the moment. Interested?
21. Since the news of this week I've given Sign 'O' The Times a couple of spins, what an amazing album. Favourites from that album alone are the title track, Housequake, It, Starfish, Forever In My Life (probably top pick, this one), The Cross, Hot Thing, U Got The Look. (Regarding UGTL I think I surprised Mrs Knob when we were courting by being able to recite the lyrics verbatim when it came on in a bar in Seville) Also this is amazing, from recent shows. So glad I saw him on this tour. Bass solo at about 2m20 btw. I hope my backing band looks this good when I'm in my mid-50s.
22. Are they trying to plug something?
23. "Hope you enjoy our new direction"
24. Here's one for fans of Led Zep III. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0hG3Gib-Is
