http://basschat.co.u...ost__p__1233806 (see http://basschat.co.u...jo-and-basschat for what happened to it)
How curious - if anyone's interested, the guy who bought my Shergold double from Wunjo has recenty listed it on eBay... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shergold-Custom-Double-8-String-4-String-Double-Neck-Bass-UK-1980-/141595790819
 2.
Well, I didn't learn that way (though many people probably wish I had). But seriously, it seems a really weird idea to video yourself doing something and then put it on the net. I have the same concerns with people reporting their every moment on facebook. To me it seems very sad, almost as if these people need to do these things to make themselves feel OK about themselves, or to justify their existence. I can't believe that these people do it out of altruism to help their fellow bassists learn stuff.
I didn't learn that way either, but it's a useful educational tool to be able to see how someone else has interpreted a line, and to be able to discriminate between the good and the less so. In this case, it's a demonstration of the player's timing, groove, and recall - despite not being a note-for-note rendition, but I don't think that really matters. I wish(!) I could play it that well, she's done a much better version than I could. Check out her "Dry Cleaner From Des Moines" as well. I have recorded clips of myself playing both bass and guitar parts on uploaded them on youtube - not as a vanity project (I'm not good enough) nor an altruistic venture, but so that I could unload the lines from my mental conveyor belt and make room for other stuff, knowing that the vids are there for reference if needed. Why upload them? So I don't need to keep a local copy. Are they public? Yes, and pretty much every one has had a comment saying "got any tab?" *sigh*
 3.
Straight to the Editorial " Ears still ringing from the London Bass Guitar Show? Ours certainly are and what a mighty event it was! here at the Bass Guitar Magazine command bunker we're still reeling from the sheer amazingness of the bass players and gear we witnessed over that epic weekend in March...."
Maybe they're referring to March 2014, and they're in need of better earplugs
 4. Show him this (and the guitarist/drummer/vocalist/audio engineer equivalents by the same guy) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-zKMsj5rio
 5. If you're going, get your ticket from http://primusville.com/tickets/ rather than any of the other outlets. The cost works out a few quid cheaper than the usual, eg O2 Priority
 6. Round up a few more keyboard players... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGzWqAc16l0
 7. You'd better have this on your list by the way. Try to get Diz in for the trumpet solo as well. What a fantastic bass tone as well from Nate - check the break at 2m08s, again at 3m29s. The soaring line at 1m51s with Stevie's lyrics are beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6f6BOKXXxg
 8. Until very recently I had one of these... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/136006-for-sale-shergold-twin-neck/page__view__findpost__p__1233806 (see http://basschat.co.uk/topic/254282-more-love-for-wunjo-and-basschat for what happened to it)
 9. Check this out - Macca with Bill Black's upright playing Heartbreak Hotel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uzC5KC_260 ... not a bad go, considering he's playing "upside down".
 10.
Even Stevie Wonder can't drop that from his set.... the problem with it is people play it with no groove or purpose beyond the riff... I'd ban the gtr from the riff... but then you'd need a funk gtr player.
Ban everyone from it apart from the drums and any handy clavinet you have lying around. And the horns of course.
 11. My overseas gig itineraries... 1996 - The Musical Box, Atlanta (early incarnation of the Genesis tribute band) 2000 - King Crimson, Prague (their tour didn't originally include a London date. guess what happened) 2007 - Genesis, Prague (one of very few standing gigs on the "reunion" tour) 2007 - The Police, Vienna (ditto) 2008 - King Crimson in Chicago/Dave Matthews Band in Alpine Valley (and folk I met at the KC gig took me to see Extreme at the Chicago House Of Blues, I turned down their offer of the Scorpions) 2008 - Dave Brubeck, San Francisco Symphony Hall 2011 - Phish, Denver (3 shows) 2011 - Kraftwerk, Munich 2013 - Kraftwerk, Dusseldorf 2014 - Alain Caron in Paris (on honeymoon, still trying to work out how I managed this)
 12. Music minus mp3 leaves this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkQ2p5QSbyc And here's the science bit: http://theghostinthemp3.com/theghostinthemp3.html
 13.
I had rega 2 . The nuts. I now have pink triangle.
You can probably get some ointment for that
 14.
All the best with the recuperation Ray. Another amp and speakers here, other systems always seem a little unnatural to me. Oh, and another vinyl evangelist I'm afraid!!
+1, well vinyl enthusiast. Rega Planar 2, Marantz PM6005 amp, Celestion DL4 Series 2 speakers.
 15.
not wanting to highjack this thread but does anyone buy CD's anymore I have loads that I want to sell but not sure if the market is there anymore. I guess Ebay is the way to test.
Only when vinyl with digital download isn't available, or too expensive. How about Music Magpie?
 16.
Anything Gabriel's done from Up onwards is filler and I'm guessing that's a big chunk of his recent shows.
From the So 25 shows, there are two post-Up songs, both brand new - so hardly filler. For me the filler at the O2 show was firstly the weak stuff from So itself: That Voice Again, Big Time; and the songs worn this by over-familiarity, like Sledgehammer, In Your Eyes, Solsbury Hill. The highlights for me were We Do What We're Told and Excellent Birds from the So set, and otherwise The Tower That Ate People, Family Snapshot, The Family & The Fishing Net, Secret World. Worth seeing once (at the O2), but I didn't go back for the next show a year later at Wembley Arena. Count me in for the Us 25 anniversary shows in 2017 though.
 17. Probably Dire Straits, Alchemy. Highly recommended, it's not that long but feels like it is. Also, I'm quite proud that I managed to keep a lady friend occupied without any complaint during the entire side 2 (that's track 4-7, CD fans) of The Yes Album.
 18. IndigO2 is a pretty good venue. Not huge. standing area downstairs, sitting upstairs Good sound system. I'll be at the O2 the same night for DMB in the main arena. Does my ticket get me into TTB as well? I've read elsewhere that the bands overlap so you can see some of everyone.
 19. Rush - Moving Pictures Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense Yes - Relayer King Crimson - Red Bowie - Heroes
 20.
I've been listening to Apollo in bed this past few months (falling asleep to it). Gonna give that album a turn.
Eno's largely mistaken for an ambient-only artist. His back catalog is full of great albums. Check out Before And After Science, Another Green World, Nerve Net, Another Day On Earth, Here Come The Warm Jets...
 21.
That's great news. What strings have you got on the TB10? I've been using Rotosound Trubass black nylons for ages but I just now put on some La Bella Deep Talkin' flats 760FS. I am very pleased with the effect.
I'm pretty sure they're what it ships with, according to the website (http://www.takamine.com/support/#faq13) they're D’Addario XL Chrome Flat bass strings, gauges .050, .070, .085 and .105. I'll keep your suggestions in mind for when the time comes. Got any footage or recordings btw?
 22.
Yes I watched a youtube vid of that performance - good innit. Someone told me Franks's retired from 'rock' music?
From Frank's facebook page: "After only four weeks of staying at home and looking after my five month old baby boy, I'm so knackered I have to go back to work to have a rest. Please check out the events page to see my ever growing concert list and please come check out the shows. I look forward to seeing you all again.... actually, I cant feckin wait to see you all again but please don't bring your kids otherwise I might start crying" I'm not sure if that means he'll be doing rock gigs or band gigs or sticking to solo/non-rock stuff. But he's out there.
 23.
Sounds like you need to drop Mr Giblin a line (possibly via Wunjo?), and get a sined letter from him to prove that your new Tak was in fact the one he used on the Kate Bush gigs. You never know when it might come in handy.
You'll never guess who I got a phone call from today... So Wunjo got in touch with JG and asked if there was anything he could do. He's written a letter of provenance, stating when he bought it where it was used - signed and delivered to Wunjo on fancy paper. I picked it up at lunchtime, and will be keeping it somewhere very safe indeed.
 24. Find some songs you like with the same time sig and play along. Eg Pink Floyd, Money; Jethro Tull's Living In The Past etc etc
