1. It sure does involve a lot of plate spinning. This is why I am in as few bands as possible, with the smallest number of band-members, with as low expectations as possible. And by that measure I'm doing really well
2.
Out of interest, sorry if I derail but what's the thoughts on a group or a page?
Page. Can't remember why right now, but trust me on this
3. For me it's The Camera Eye, originally on Moving Pictures, here from the Time Machine tour... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nc1YPRbkWQA I love the guitar tone on the solo, Geddy's vocals obviously struggling though. From slightly earlier times, Jacob's Ladder is a favourite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHSaK78d9b8
4. Thanks for all the likes so far! To those who might like to be discerning, maybe facebookers could add rough location and musical style to their post/link.
5. Great idea! I'm now the Angry Badger's newest fan. Like me up! Velcro Pelmet - jazz-rock for the south London masses. https://www.facebook.com/VelcroPelmet
6.

I like the well-balanced, top-heavy yet bouncy feel around the 49 minute mark
7. The tab looks fine to me, although there are a few variations throughout as you mention. What sounds wrong when you play it?
8. The 12 bar Club has recently announced its closure in January 2015. From their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/12BarClub "We are very sad to announce that The 12 Bar Club has been given notice to vacate Denmark Street by the middle of January. The 12 Bar Club will live on We will announce details of our new location shortly"
9. Where were you? I was out in Vauxhall last night, and work nearby. I'll keep my eyes peeled.
10.
I've always thought that Vernon Reid's best work was outside of Living Colour. His playing when he was with Ronald Shannon Jackson's Decoding Society was amazing and the Smash and Scatteration LP with Bill Frisell is a gem. His banjo playing is a bit special too.
I like his "Mistaken identity" album from the mid-90s, the track Uptown Drifter is a favourite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-q2xFymQgg
11. Dave played on Pigs (Three Different Ones) and Sheep from Animals. DSotM was all Roger.
12. I've just tried a playalong with the video posted earlier - My usual three-finger technique** gets tired quickly, so I found index on the E string, middle on the A string 7th fret and mute E with the thumb works pretty well. Vix-style scrunchies, hipshot or a 5-string not needed. ** index and middle finger alternating on the same string, ring finger mutes string above, thumb mutes string below. When ascending strings, ring fingers makes first pluck; when descending, rake with whichever finger just plucked
13. Time's Up is a fantastic album, everything post-Muzz never quite got it together. I saw them at the Garage in Highbury about 10 years ago - the Collidascope tour? Pretty good. Jeff Beck was in the audience.
14.
good man toneknob. I understand the views that Metallica will 'own' a huge piece of Jaco rightly or wrongly, but Metallica are not business mogul monsters anymore. That time has passed , these days they are good guys and family men, I'm sure Rob (who has been a huge Jaco fan for years) will give this project the respect it deserves and with any luck it won't just be bass players that like it, the masses will catch on as well. I am very interested even though I'm not a big Jaco fan and will definately buy the DVD
I don't know about the business intent of Metallica, but RT's enthusiasm and long-term respect and admiration for JP is obvious from the youtube clips I've seen relating to the project. Teamed with the producers behind Sugarman, I've got high hopes.
15. +1 for mids. Here's some bloke cutting through nicely with his overly-loud bandmates down the Albert Pub. Check out the upside-down smiley EQ.If it was me (sorry Jack) I'd skew it slightly towards the bass, with the peak around 300-400Hz, but that's personal preference (and I don't know the EQ bands on a Hartke either) ps. welcome to basschat!
16. The trailer lists/shows a few names: Johnny Pastorius, Flea, Bootsy Collins, Geddy Lee, Santana, Ian Hunter, Nathan Watts, Peter Erskine, Wayne Shorter, Sting, Herbie Hancock. I'm really looking forward to it - and have stumped up a wedge for the pledge.
17. Am I alone in not being able to read through any PledgeMusic campaign without this popping up? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Dy2fo6E_pI
18. Not a hologram exactly, but on Strictly Come Dancing's results show last night (the missus was watching and I just happened to be in the room ok *ahem*), Barry Manilow did a "duet" with Louis Armstrong on "What A Wonderful World". Which was creepy enough ... and it brought back to mind Pat Metheny's thoughts on Kenny G doing the same, see http://www.jazzoasis.com/methenyonkennyg.htm (which can be tempered slightly with PM's own follow-up at http://www.jazzguitar.com/features/kennyg2.html)
19. BBC Four are showing this Jack bruce documentary tonight: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01c6hw2 I think it's been on before, if so it's well worth a watch.
20. Ology by Living Colour/Muzz Skillings (specifically the melody from 0m34s onwards). I have the tab somewhere and a general feeling of "must get around to learning it one day"
21. So I went in Wunjo yesterday to see if they had any TB-10's in stock. "The website's a bit out of date, sorry to say" he said. "We sold the TB-10 a few months ago. Turns out it was the guy from Kate Bush's band".
22. TNK from "801 - Live", with Bill MacCormick (also of Quiet Sun and Matching Mole) on bass. This version is a bit woolly in the bottom, check out the remastered version if you like it (here it is on spotify Phil Manzanera – TNK (Tomorrow Never Knows) - Live)
23.
I am hearing Gong music for the first time right now. I am really impressed with Mike Howlett.
He's great. You know about http://gongband.info/event/londonhighbur-uk/ right?
