Personally I'd go for the Rega, but I've never used, heard or owned a Project. I've heard many say they're excellent, and very few against them. I've yet to hear anyone speak against any Rega kit but it could happen. SevenOaks sell the Rega, you could ask about doing an audition with some of your own vinyl. A good shop will let you have kit on an audition loan in your own home for a few days.
Oh absolutely, I've already been in touch with Sevenoaks. Unfortunately they've only got the cheaper Pro-Ject available for demo. Also got my eye on Oranges And Lemons in Battersea, they've got the RP3 but not the more expensive Pro-Ject. Are there any other central/SW London hifi shops anyone can recommend?
It's like angel dust, only more sparkly! I get mine from Elias' shop ^
I'll have two of each. Incidentally, I'm in the market for a new turntable. Got my eye on either the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, or Rega RP1, or if I'm feeling fancy the Pro-Ject Xpression 3 or RP3. Anyone got experience of any of the above that they can share? It'll be used with a Marantz PM6010OSE Amp and Celestion DL4 Series 2 speakers.
The rest is just voodoo and fairy dust
Where do I get this fairy dust, and is it expensive?

Yep, that's what I've got my eye on first. I need to double-check the shape of the euro-plug first though to make sure it'll fit. Maplin have this: http://www.maplin.co...or-black-394235 and eBay has this one: http://www.ebay.co.u...K-/360396416623 It needs to be in black of course...

I've been trying to track down a replacement PSU for a Mark Bass pedal - mine's got a euro-style plug, being slightly OCD about such things I wanted a UK plug rather than a departure lounge adaptor. (It's one of those PSUs where the actual plus slots in and out so you can easily replace it depending on where you are) Cost of adaptor plus UK plug: £53.75 + VAT Cost of just the UK plug: £49.25 + VAT I'm off to Maplins to see what I can get. Failing that, a handy departure lounge will do.

Sonuus Wahoo - Could this be the best bass pedal ever? new vids!
toneknob replied to gazgoldstar's topic in Effects
Got mine as well! Agree about construction, although the three knobs on top feel a little flimsy, it's clear why the two metal guards are in place. Didn't have too much time to play last night, but been through the first ten or so presets with a big grin. -
BC's new classifieds section - your opinions please
toneknob replied to ped's topic in General Discussion
Regarding subs: Good idea, but for the low-frequency (sorry) sellers who don't sell much, it'll be off-putting. How about £20 for a year, or (say) a one-off £2 for an individual item? (sorry if this has been covered before, I didn't read the whole thread) -

Sonuus are selling a Wahoo in their pre-Christmas sell-off: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/sonuuslimited (also some other stuff there: a B2M, for example) -
She was explaining how her kit was an exact replica of Phil Collins' one, and how the newer versions have the "wrong" colour hardware, or something.
Except she's not left-handed, but I learnt to not mention that pretty sharpish. I mentioned something similar to the bassist from Genesis trib The Musical Box (he's left-handed, Mike Rutherford righty - TMB are lauded for their visual accuracy), he got a bit huffy.
I suggested it was ironic that she was playing "progressive" music but was obsessed with historical accuracy
Even though the "progressive" label has little to do with actual progression but a lot to do with composition style, this is pretty much why I knocked the tribute band scene on the head. Apparently "Jazz" derives from "jasm" meaning "spirit, energy, vigor" (according to wikipedia). Some jazz does the exact opposite to me.
But was Kevin Bacon involved at all?
He owned it pre-Norm of course.

Dimmer button = opposite of "Brightness", for when you're watching something that's too clever for you

I suppose I'd better plug Laurence's book as well - some of you might have it. "Electric Bass Guitar - the Complete Guide", http://www.electricbassguitarbook.com/ (Those are Matt's hands there as well)

Basschat fans everywhere will remember this thread about the Blockheads bassist selling his Fender Jazz on eBay: http://basschat.co.u...ys-bass-on-ebay So Norman gives his guitar to Andy to sell, who lists it on eBay the link gets posted on Basschat (thanks to BC user thebrig!) I show the link to my bassist pal Matt Matt shows the link to his dad and bass tutor Laurence Canty Laurence shows the link to his ex-student Colin Colin contacts Andy and puts a deposit down, and subsequently buys the bass. And that's the story of how Colin Greenwood out of Radiohead bought Blockhead Norman Watt-Roy's 1962 Shoreline Gold Fender Jazz bass.

10 minutes ago on the Sonuus facebook feed: "They're here! Almost a quarter of a tonne of Wahoos arrived 10 minutes ago." -
How many mistakes per gig do you make?
toneknob replied to The Dark Lord's topic in General Discussion
Another handy quote I found this morning, from the interview with John Paul Jones in the Dec 2012 edition of Mojo: - Did you make any actual mistakes on the night? - ... If you worry about making mistakes you'll never take any chances, and we are about taking those chances -
Take both, use whatever's appropriate once you've tried both in soundcheck.

None, it's jazz. Or, as Miles Davis put it, "If you don't make mistakes you're not trying hard enough" -
I've learnt that it's never a good idea to argue with the soundman. If they keep up the attitude, then the band (not just the guitarists) will get a reputation not only at this venue, but also others that the same soundman works at. If the band finds itself without a repeat booking at the venue you've mentioned, you'll have a good idea why. Sorry to sound negative, but this has happened to me in the past!

Here's the direct link to GAK, http://www.gak.co.uk...om-b9.1ut/26145 - includes free cable! Stagg or a Venom Python. Showing up as £109 here. Tempted! But the effects purse has already stumped up for two pedals in the last couple of weeks... oh yeah and Sonuus Wahoo on the way :\
I saw the musical box a couple of times and they were fantastic, they even have a balding left handed drummer who sings!! I read that Peter Gabriel even took his daughter to see them to show her what Dad used to do. Check em out if you can.
Steve Hackett joined The Musical Box for an encore of "Firth Of Fifth" at the Royal Albert Hall the first time they played there. of course they'd already played it once in the main set. He sat down on stage with a look on his face that said "nice try, but check *this* out" Pretty sure Mike and Tony were the audience that day as well.
I would be in agreement were it not for the frankly hideous Battle of Epping Forest. Such a shame, as the rest of the album is as close to perfection as anything, and the rest of the tracks are probably Genesis' finest.
Also, Firth Of Fifth was a leftover from Foxtrot. Imagine having a song that good as a leftover.
