1. Solo album "Bestial Cluster" should be on the menu for any Karn-curious as well.
2. There used to be a load of bass tabs on Mick Karn's website in the Image Gallery. Just checked, they've gone now
3. I've just got online quotes from New Moon and Allianz. New Moon comes in it about £200 less than Allianz and MusicGuard's renewal quote. Is there something obvious that New Moonh don't protect for that the others do?
4.
I've heard good things about Music Guard, but they couldn't help me as they wouldn't accept valuations from anyone who was clued up enough to know what it was.
Who would they accept valuations from? I've got certificates from Vintage And Rare that were ok with MG at the time.
5. I've been using Music Guard for the last couple of years and have been spending approx £300 a year for £17k of cover, with 25% covered out of the house. Be careful as over £15k and you need to meet more stringent security requirements. I'm thinking of moving on as I'm sure there's cheaper available elsewhere, and I've shifted one of the more expensive items recently so the amount of cover will be less. Other's I've about that BCers might be able to comment on: Endsleigh, http://www.endsleigh.co.uk/Home/Pages/musical-instrument.aspx Allianz, http://www.allianzmusicalinsurance.co.uk New Moon, http://www.newmooninsurance.com/musical/ Lark, https://www.larkinsurance.co.uk/private-clients/musical-instrument E&L, http://www.eandl.co.uk/musical-equipment-insurance/ And that's just from one page of googling.
6. Brilliant. I hope Dirty Loops are watching this
7. Thanks Dave! If you need a hand with any of them, shout out on basschat, someone's bound to know
8. Hi Dave I've really enjoyed these couple of videos - one request though, when referring to specific notes could you use the note name rather than the fret position? We've already got the tab elsewhere in the clip, having the note named connects the dots (sorry) between tab and notation.
9. What kind of bassist is his mate to (a) not be able to get a gig on his own (b ) be (I assume) complicit in his guitarist pal's intent? Get him a BC login! Hope it all works out for you. You're doing it all the right way.
10. I'm a recent OBBM convert: I needed something sturdy for upcoming gigs and my then current cable set's reliability was getting (ahem) patchy. The Bassic Bits (now also known as Rock Wire) cables are bombproof and, importantly for me, you can choose cable length and connector type at order time. Turnaround time is super-quick as well.

12. Discovered this recently, Soundgarden's Rusty Cage by Johnny Cash http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtbuUlSGXzc
13. This is how to really do it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jr8BtQRUVq8
14. I recently sent A 26kg parcel to Switzerland via Parcelforce. No trouble at all - despite the musical instrument exclusion mentioned above, the recipient was happy to have it insured from his end of things. The pickup was fast (the driver was a bit grumpy though) and the package was tracked end-to-end. Cost was about £120 for the 3-day delivery. Whoever you send with: packaging, packaging, packaging.
15.
plenty of wet wipes
Yeah. I've already packed the anti-bac as well.
16.
Awesome, I'm stewarding at SGP so heading off this afternoon. Will try and check you guys out if it doesn't clash with a shift. If you see a short jewish student with a black backpack dancing like a nutter, it's probably me. Tip: If you have them, a decent pair of walking boots are much more comfortable than wellies to spend a weekend in.
Come and say hi if you're around. Footwear - thanks for the tips all, but I don't have any wellies (and it's too late to get any) so it's road-worn DMs for me. They've seen action at Glastonbury 1998 (a simple google image search of "glastonbury 1998" will show that this summer is a heatwave in comparison) and various outdoors gigs/fests since.
17. Thanks for the tips! Keep them coming. It's tomorrow!
18.
"It's ironic that this excuse has been used in relation to Bruce Springsteen, who certainly knows what real health and safety is all about - look at the words of 'Factory' from Darkness on the Edge of Town referring to the toll that factory work can take on the health of blue collar workers. People will now only be able to speculate what the final number should have been. Given that he'd already played Wrecking Ball and that Paul McCartney was on stage, how about Don't let me down?" You ignored the third and final graphs of Mr Myers quote. The ones where he comes across as sounding like a petulant child, having had its toys taken away. The ones where he goes on to add to the speculation that it was Springsteen's intention to continue the performance with no regard to any of the surrounding issues, and ignoring the rights and responsibilities of others, including the hundreds of employees/operatives engaged to work at the concert venue that night.
You seem like quite the expert! Are you able to answer my question? Just in case you missed it, it was "How would letting Bruce and Mac have a "good night and thanks for coming" have reduced safe and ready access to local transport?". It wasn't a rhetorical question, I'm genuinely interested. Also, please don't mistake my editing for brevity's sake as ignorance or naivety.
19.
A sing of the times? http://www.dailymail...e-newcomer.html (Ok, I know its the Daily Mail, who had to mention 2 world wars...)
Haha. That's funny. In a separate conversation I've had about the Bruce/Mac thing, I mentioned that I live next door to a church which has 3 or 4 separate services on a Sunday, and while they don't have bells they have a church organ which we can hear inside. I'm thinking of asking the church to only have services in the week during daytime when everyone's out. Then I can have my peaceful lie-in. Doesn't matter that the church has been there years longer than me! I'm a local resident and object to having my peaceful Sunday lie-ins disturbed. What? join in with the joyful atmosphere and communal spirit? I don't think so.
20. A response to the situation from Kevin Myers, Deputy Chief Exec of the Health and Safety Executive: http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/record/2012/springsteen160712.htm?eban=rss-putting-the-record-straight "As a longstanding Bruce Springsteen fan and one of the crowd at Hard Rock Calling, I was doubly disappointed to hear Live Nation give 'health and safety' as the reason for cutting short Saturday's gig. The fans deserve the truth: there are no health and safety issues involved here. While public events may have licensing conditions dictating when they should end, this is not health and safety and it is disingenuous of Live Nation to say so." So in answer to my question 'How would letting Bruce and Mac have a "good night and thanks for coming" have reduced safe and ready access to local transport?' - it wouldn't.
21. Mud, beer, beer, mud. Got it. Thanks!
22.
Post pics and vids if/when you have them!
We did a warm-up at the 12 Bar a couple of weeks ago. The photos show that my current choice of gig shirt is a big wardrobe fail, severe strap-tug over the left shoulder makes it looks rubbish. Need to update the gig threads.
23. I'm playing my first festival gig this week, at Secret Garden Party. Equally exciting and nerve-wracking stuff. Festival vets - Any tips? Plug: the band is The Penny Black Remedy, check out spotify and general googling for material. Their previous bassist left April/May time and they asked me to step in to help cover upcoming commitments. One is SGP, the other is Bestival. Hurray/yikes! Thanks!
24. I hear Bruce's late start was due to John Fogerty over-running. Report in from a colleague who was there for Sunday's show: everyone was going on early, and he turned up at the advertised time to hear his favourite band just starting their last song. Hey ho.
