Why are loads of product demos etc. slap?
stingrayPete1977 replied to ROConnell's topic in General Discussion
Funny thing is most younger blokes I've spoken to doing slap in shops and at bass shows don't even listen to proper funk, RHCP maybe but they are absolutely, no way funk. I love slap but it doesn't fit in with other genres.
In your 50s with a Level 42 T shirt is not a younger bloke, lol -

The people spending the big money are the same people that go to the big bass shows and you'll know what they sound like if you've attended one. -
Yes I suppose so, you can set it up via your online account Les, free for one region.

Is there a reason for the apparent dislike for active basses...
stingrayPete1977 replied to Rocker's topic in Bass Guitars
Pino used a Stingray for ages afaik -
I've had two enquiries after taking out their PLI only a couple of weeks ago, does anyone know how it works? Is it just a blanket email to anyone in that area (you select an area and can add more for £20 each) or have the people that have enquired actually looked at our Facebook page do you think? Anyone had any success or disasters following these enquires? Thanks.

I used to spend all day in musical exchanges in the early 90's, had my SGC Nanyo bass collection from there, the shop in the arches was out of the front door turn right and up to the arch over the road, turn left and it was on the left a few arches up. That was the Bass Centre.

I think the NS is a really well made eub but I think even the Stagg offers a closer feel to an acoustic bass in the neck department, the SLB basses combine both ime.
Not exactly. In my personal belief construct the afterlife is a variant of Niflheim - i.e. rather like Iceland without the boutique hotels, the vibrant party scene and the hipster DJs Gosh! So that's what happened to Monsters of Rock. Never knew.
Yes, I presume they wanted to lose the Rock name at the time and make it appeal to a younger crowd, downloading was a newish thing at the time.
Bands like Aerosmith, Macca and The Stones are exceptions Young kids will go to those shows because it's a huge pop scene. You won't convince me they are hard core fans. Blue
There aren't any pop acts at the rest of the 3 day festival, Download is the new version of what was 'Donnington Monsters of Rock", basically it was THE rock/metal show in the UK with a worldwide audience travelling to attend.
Hi, anyone have a ballpark cost of PAT testing a whole band's equipment, including main pa and monitors? Thanks in advance. Graham
This was the original question anyway! I'd say £30-40 plus a cup of tea for around 15-20 items.
-
This comes up every time pat testing is mentioned and its total nonsense, chances are the bar staff or person organising the bands won't have documents such as the fixed wiring certificates, if it's a brewery owned venue the documents will be kept on file at a head office or more likely purely an electronic copy sent direct from the electrician that tested it to the venues owner usually to send to the insurance company and local authority as part of an entertainments licence application. FWIW if you really want to ask for one it's called an "electrical installation condition report", them having one or not carries no value regarding your gear being PAT tested or not if they've requested it before you play.
-
Just had a look Blue, Aerosmith are the headline act for the last night this year, kids into rock and older bands are not just the exception at all. Approx 110 thousand people over three days.
-
I'm thinking the kids in Milwaukee are different to the ones here? Bands like Sabbath and maiden are still a big deal here to younger fans, concerts like Download Festival are mainly frequented by younger folks afaik.

Funily enough all our younger lads call the Megger a Fluke now even if it's a Robin! I'm off to do the Hoovering....

The floating thumb and the 5 string.
stingrayPete1977 replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
I don't think I do anything different than I would on a four string bass, I probably get most of my muting done with the left hand, the first gig 10 years ago with a hifi sounding amp/cab soon had me muting better! -
That's it, for class 1 earthed kit the machine attaches via a fly lead to some exposed casing, obviously you need to test the earth on the (kettle ) lead first. The insulation resistance test is as you say a megger test but I'm sure TimR will be along to explain that megger is a test instrument brand but we all know what you mean
-
I'll just copy and type that out and put that in our gig folder then We've got at least six gigs this year already planned that require proof, one venue is just a bog standard pub £300 gig.
-
Cool by me, leaves the well paying gigs for those that have paid the £30 to get it done
-
Not everyone has the ability to carry out insulation resistance tests or earth continuity confirmation just by looking at stuff that "comes in from the field with issues", I think it's probably best to just check everything once a year and make a record of the date it was done along with details of who carried out the test, maybe pop a sticker on it to show anyone that operates it that it's been done and a handy reminder of when it next needs doing, if only there was such a service
-
Because they're selling it as an addon service (revenue generation) - which is fine.. However I take exception to being lied to. Are you seriously trying to suggest that whenever electrical work is done, there is a requirement to PA test everything in a building?
I've never suggested it after carrying out work, I hate doing it for a start! We haven't got time to be touting for it either, have you tried getting an electrician or plumber etc lately?
-
It's not what the OP wanted to know anyway!
-
Is this instance there is no legal definition of PA testing and the stickers have no meaning in any legal sense.. it's nothing like a certificate of motor insurance.. No one is suggesting that electrcal equipment should not be safe, just deriding the whole concept of PA testing in this country. Read the HSE notes linked above. My somewhat cynical take on the PA testing "industry" comes from explaining to electrical contractors that it's not "the law".
Why do you feel the need to explain it to electrical contractors? They will be asked to carry out the tests because the company requires it possibly as part of their insurance requirements which will be law. How on earth can anyone prove that they had done a responsible job of making sure their equipment is as safe as possible without some kind of paper trail should something happen, it might not be law but I'm certain I'd look responsible in court when I provided the band's PLI certificate, PAT test records for the last three years and photos of the stage area showing taped down cables and hazard taped legs on protruding stands from every gig. What more can you do? That takes almost no effort or cost either as we need the pli and PAT tests for some venues, it was taken from our NYE gig money to cover all this year and I always take a photo of the stage once set up anyway.
-
I've never understood the "buy some stickers" approach, I could type and print a car insurance certificate, wouldn't hold any value if anything went wrong would it? You can go around the houses with the legalities all you like just like the public liability argument but if the venue wants it you need it or let another band do it, lying that they are done is one thing but making your own stickers up would be getting you is serious trouble if something did happen unless you can "prove that you are competent" and you have the appropriate paperwork to go with the stickers.

Looks like Trace Elliot may be back? NAMM 2017?
stingrayPete1977 replied to 40hz's topic in Amps and Cabs
I take my microhead to practice and use the supplied cabs but not the awful head, it's a workable compromise. -

I've got a Genz shuttle 3.0, quite a rare beast, 300 watts at 4 ohm, speakon out (just one though),1/4 jack speaker out, FX loop, di, tuner out, headphone socket and an AUX in. Fits in a gig bag pouch. A Trace Elliot version of that would be ideal imo.
