1. I remember "shorten to sharpen" regarding the free string between nut and saddle, moving the saddles wildly you can also go through incorrect scale lengths in relation to the frets (which are fixed obviously) and the string becomes right but wrong if that makes sense?
2. We had some Fearless/fearful greenboy audio stuff at the double bass bash (along with a cab builder!), first cab I've heard that blew me away, and light as a feather!
3. The guitarist in one of my bands has a Vox simulator thing, it's fed back to him along with his vocal monitoring, I use a 1x12 cab and the drummer keeps to a sensible volume, we can talk during the songs if we need to and my earplugs haven't come out in five years.
4. On the other hand lets not exagerate too much, the Classic5 is a bit awesome all told
5. I'd happily go clean di to a digital desk and in ears, heft schmeft
6. What about "my sound" and "heft"?
7. The classic is a SUB copy really
8. Any bass without a musicman truss rod wheel of fortune is a massive failure, I've only got one without.
9. Well mine is ace so I must be really lucky, for that am shall be forever thankful
10.
They're for people who like the Fender style but actually want a really good one.
And what would all those blokes have for their 50th birthday blowout present without a choice of £2k plus Jazz basses to choose from
11. Well Dave is having a double hernia operation and it would have been filmed a while ago?
12. I've seen these before, I dont know why they have got to so much trouble then altered it, it's as if they described a real one over the phone.
13.
Class D isn't new any more - I got my first one about 13 years ago. IME, the novelty seems to be wearing off for a growing number of people.
Yes,in ears are becoming more and more popular aren't they?
14. You should sell the lot Jose, get a Stingray 5, series/parallel/single coil switching, maple board, job done
15.
Its only a matter of time before "TC" is mentioned.
Tim Commerford?
16.
I wonder what language that is? I tried Italian in Google translate and that drew a blank....
I found a reference to Swahili but Google doesn't like that either.
17.
How on earth did this information get out? Was it some kind of leak?
Well it wasn't from the horses mouth.
18. +1 for trying a used Stagg out instead Without trying each bass it's hard to say if it's playable or not, you can't compare them to electric basses regarding setup or alterations.
19.
Hi Pete yes indeed i know £600 isn't much to some folk but it was the most expensive Bass i have ever bought but you learn by your mistakes and the couple who bought it from me....came down to see the Bass first and got it for £225 so i lost almost £400 cheers
It seams you need to spend just a little bit more (the far east Gedos might be ok for similar money to the G4M but I don't think anyone here has bought one to know?) or wait for a good used one to come up, usually just after you buy a new budget one like the stetnor in the fs section now!
20. We do our best in the double bass section to warn against them, basically they are only good as ornamental objects! Some people have spent another £600 getting them playable, £1200 will buy a decent Gedo or European built Thomann bass including branded strings. It's a shame it's put you off the upright challenge.
21.
I would go to a pub to watch bands that aren't doing rock. I don't like classic rock particularly so would love to have some other options. I don't play pubs very often as I play in a function band which I joined because I a) want regular gigs and want to play a wide variety of styles including old and new. I think the downturn in pub gigs is due to all combinations of the following (and probably more): Smoking ban Rising cost of drinks Bigger variety of drinks available on supermarkets X factor type TV Lazy unimaginative landlords Lazy unimaginative bands Food sales being bigger earners Young people having different interests Loud bands Bands wanting to take more money than they make for the venue. Etc Etc Etc
All of this +1
