1. When I was young, less than 10 years old perhaps, I thought only black guys could be the best bassists because all the best bands had a cool black guy on bass, I now realise they were the top session guys we all know and love. Most of my favourite bass players are black guys still, am I discriminating against white bassists or giving positive discrimination towards black bassists? In fact I really like Esperanza Spalding so maybe I'm anti white men bassists, lol.
2. I find them like used cars, you find something that looks ok, in this case for £350, then you think well a couple of quid more gets you a Gedo, then another £250 will take you into carved front basses made in europe from Gedo or Thomann, but then for a £1000 you could a really nice used bass, but then if it's not a good example that's a lot to lose, maybe a decent one from a dealer including a setup to your liking which is going to start around £1750......... You get the picture
3.
No cat ? No children ? There's no need for you to be on Facebook is there ? What would you post pictures of ?
My lunch?
4. I couldn't hear what the Beatles actually played either, could have been terrible.
5. I'm not on Facebook and I haven't got a cat or children or a football
6. I love my shuttle 3.0, being a Genz fanboy these Genzlers will be my go to amps to look at first should the time come.
7. I've played all the usual songs over the years, little red rooster anyone?
8. The world moves on, why aren't we all at the ballroom on a sunday afternoon anymore? There will always be a few people that keep genres alive along with suitable venues in some cases but will there be bands full of fifty year old blokes playing Hey Joe forever in every town? Maybe, maybe not.
9. Good stuff, always nice to hear outcomes good or bad, especially good ones
10.
must remember to tell our singer he's a bigot, he thinks that anybody that votes UKIP is a ****
If the cap fits
11.
Obviously with the prevalence of social media, it is quite routine to do some online checking to support any credentials - just a few minutes ago I read a Facebook entry on a musicians wanted page where some guy said he's played 'over a thousand gigs in the last ten years'. Clicking on his photos showed up loads of photos of trees and his dog, but not one of the guy playing with anything other than a football. What does that say?
Was it JTUK?
12.
Interesting to know how many of the naysayers also sing or do a fair bit of backing vocals. I can remember a lot more bass parts than the words to all the songs we play.
I always get the impression in these threads that some people feel because they've learnt all the verses to alright now note for note everyone should be able to remember everything ever written!
13. Judging by the younger people I know going to the pub just isn't the done thing anymore.
14. Music Of Beatles Origin
15. I have many hobbies that require driving to and from places with stuff in the car, I'd only declare any that I'd class as a proper income, proper incomes I'd class as anything where a tax return is filed each year.
16. I will indeed, he's still plays with that drummer in a couple of bands afaik too.
17. If we moan too much we might end up with Chris Evans or someone!
18.
I saw the drummer and bassist in The Climax Blues Band do this at the Standard in Walthamstow in the 90's. Looked good at the time
He's a member here
19.
Dont know why musicians moan about the content of the Hoot, after all it has to appeal to a huge range of tastes. Sadly we rarely have gigs at New year so we tend to watch it every year. Can think of much worse as a build up to 12 o clock.
I just think it's due a re fresh, new host(s) and less boogie woogie.
20. I think most of us in that situation unless it was a very quiet practice or jam at home would still use some form of amp, just a little 1x10 or something like a MarkBass combo, if the voice is not in a PA then it is possible though.
21.
Jeff Ament - Pearl Jam The intro to evenflow has a dirty great harmonic slide at the start. I'm sure it's a Wal he uses/used. Ah...missed that someone had already said that...
I found the unplugged version of Jeremy, that 8 string bass sounds amazing, fantastic stuff!
22. He can't help himself can he, that version needs no piano, lol.
23. I thought piling up barefaced cabs of different speaker sizes with different cloths and badges upside down with the amp head being the largest box perched on top was advised by most users looking at the BF threads?
24. I doubt any of the hollow bodied eub type basses would be loud enough to jam with acoustic guitars, even with a normal upright I'd use a small amp just to save digging in so much.
