1. Just watched it on iplayer, took me 10 minutes. Imelda May without her band was weird, Roy Wood without his band not so good. Strangely I thought ABC stole the show?
2. They are tested, they arent christmas lights, they're 'a thing'
3.
No he did not...as it was not a... JAZZ gig !!!!!!
It definitely wasn't a Jazz gig, 120 pre sold ticketed punters plus a few extras, lol
4.
You didn't play Moondance. Everything else, I can forgive.
There was no moondance, I wasn't on double bass at all either last night, they said lets just play one long set of the stuff people know and enjoy, lol.
5.
...whilst wearing an "I'm a Belieber!" teeshirt? Very glad you got out there and did it anyway. That is the bottom line.
Justin was depping on drums
6.
Did you deny having been influenced by the Beatles?
Who are they?
7.
With all those natural laws being broken at one time ! How did the world not end. ?
You'd have thought so wouldn't you?
8. Ha no I meant I had one on that stage last night myself! Tasteless and unplayable junk naturally
9.
I gig with a Fender, so I'm a dimwit with limited taste.
I knew I'd missed an obvious one, 3tsb Fender Jazz with tort too.
10.
...and you left it all in the van whilst you had a drink after the gig.
All night, which was naughty.
11. Over the years we've had all sorts of threads containing wisdom about what you should or shouldn't do, even to the point of the now famous walking out of a gig before it started if there was a music stand on show! Other than last night's gig not being for nowt I think I've done a pretty good job of breaking the bass chat laws All of these things and many I will have missed have been mentioned on here in the past, BTW this is just tongue in cheek fun, I still think the important bit is actually gigging even if it's got all these terrible things going on as listed below Class D bass amp. Neo loaded cab. Set up under the TV. Music stand hidden behind far PA speaker with tablet on it. Digital PA. Class D PA speakers. Non wooden PA speaker boxes. No Subs. Bass, Kick Drum and Guitar in the PA. DI bass pre EQ rather than 3 mics and a blend to get "my sound" out front. Ipad on a grab on the singers stand. PAT Tested gear. Spare bass. Active basses. 5 string basses. Marshall guitar amp and Les Paul gold top. Public Liability Insurance taken out. Playing covers. Matching black clothes, blue ties for the guys, blue shoes for lady singer. We played brown eyed girl and Daydream believer. EDIT- white tape to make cables safe. Lights on stand. Sunburst and tort. Fenders. Gear left in the van. What else have I missed? Happy New Year!
12. Trying to find solutions for everyone else isn't the answer, removing the root of the issue is the only way forward. The audience and sound crew will thank you too.
13. P Bass Jazz Bass Stingray Stingray Fretless Stingray Five How's that?
14. The only songs I now specifically don't use the B string on are those that I either normally play on upright bass or songs I might fancy moving onto the upright bass at a late date.
15. Our singer uses one, there's a massive difference between a cursory glance for the tricky parts and newly introduced songs and staring at it all night, I'd be surprised if many of our audience notice it being there tbh.
16. Ideally we'd all have a great front person that remembers all the words to hundreds of songs, failing that I'd take a great singer with an ipad mini on a proper grab bracket over an average singer that remembers the words. The younger bands are going to be using more and more gadgets on stage to trigger things or do clever stuff I'm too old to understand.
17. I've yet to witness first hand or hear of a guitarist that has altered their ways. The ones that need to do it at rehearsal are normally a lost cause.
18. And another decent looking bass has just been listed on here for £700! Pics please
19. Looks like typical Fender QC looking at the fret work and tuners, I've got the 5 string version but mines a bit bigger unless you have massive hands?
20.
Agreed, however and I haven't read all the posts here. Wouldn't conversion means a new neck, new pick ups and electronics, new bridge? Building one from scratch seems to make more sense. I'm glad I'm a "dyed in the wool" 4 string guy. Blue
My Stingray 5 necks probably aren't much wider if at all than some P bass necks, new nut and an extra tuner, different bridge job done. Results may vary, wildly.
21.
you are absolutely right, I don't 'get' social media, I'm just an old fart, never heard of Postmodern Jukebox but I would imagine they got where they are through Social Media recommendations, much like in the old days when you actually met people face to face and someone said "Have you heard so and so, it's brilliant" the same applies on Social Media, but bands liking other bands as a reciprocal agreement can't do any good, you need Social Media users recommending them to other Social Media users because they like them, Social Media has made checking out bands a lot easier but they still need to be properly liked for it to work, or maybe I'm missing something?
I think you are, people see a band they like on here that they thought they would never meet in a million years, a year later they are away for the weekend and who pops up on their feed, only the band they liked all that time ago that have a gig that night in that town! I agree about liking for likes sake btw, if I looked at a link above and didn't like what I saw I wouldn't "like" it, but I don't think you need to see the band first in person to like them, I have never seen Nirvana but I like them Mcnach clicked on a link I used to have in my sig, he ended up buying an album, I shall forever be thankful
22. Broke my arm and needed to play something held vertical.
23. I saw Velvet Revolver at the NIA quite a few years ago, they were snorting something off the top of the PA cabs, not sure if they had any tablets on stage though?
