1. I suspect most of their profit was made on bottled drinks sold via the big super markets anyway?
2.
Absolutely. I played a gig last week where we were paid £250 and only ten people turned up. I say turned up; they were already there and they didn't leave. I don't imagine the pub made too much money that night.
Yep, we've got one on Saturday, we will have a few regulars of our own as they don't get to see us at the function/wedding stuff (I have just been informed by text as I am typing that loads of our people are coming?), the rest of the people will be people that were going there to eat anyway, the idea is that we keep them in there after to spend a few quid. I think it is a £400 gig, if the pub makes 50p on each drink sold after bar staff wages electric bill, cleaners etc etc then they will need to sell 800 EXTRA drinks on top of what they would sell without a band on, I would imagine it will hold 100 people maybe a few more if it was rammed, that's 8 drinks each. I know why I have no interest in running a pub!
3. Deal! Pm me all your bank details, date of birth, mothers maiden name etc etc and I'll pop it right in
4. Too late in looking for inca silver ones already! I hold you fully responsible both financially and emotionally
5. My Fender is a bit of a plank compared to my Rays but I swap between them now I'm used to both, I don't think I have a preference either way now.
6. That's not going to help anyone with gas for a Stingray is it? Can you give everyone a warning next time please
7.
Wasn't a British bloke a member of Blondie at one point?
That was my initial thought.
8. Exactly, we've seen my "they're playing your guitars in there" thread!
9. It's just the way it is, I wouldn't have heard of many of the custom makes without Basschat, I know loads of fifty year old guys that have bought a Fender or had one bought for them as a birthday present, some haven't been played since.
10. You know I never noticed the string spacing being tight on the SR305! Maybe there's more to it than the spacing? I think it's just what you get used to anyway, I remember the Stingray five feeling weird compared to my fours, now when I play one it just feels like wasted space between the strings!
11. The thing is regardless of wether some folk on here wouldn't touch a fender they do still have a desirability factor of that F logo, the resale on custom basses is terrible too unless you wait forty years, A GB Spitfire would be a better bass than most if not all Fenders but it will also loose a lot of value, used ones on this site are around £1300-1500, half it's new value, I've seen Shukers for £500. Then there's the wait for a custom build.
12. How much profit has been made by paying a band more than the extra bottom line has increased compared to a Saturday night without a band?
13. Ibanez SR series gets my vote, cracking basses for not much money.
14.
Not so true these days. Fender let their reputation slide for far too long, but since about 2008 they have raised their game.
I know,I've got one, I wouldn't have bought it without trying it first though.
15. So 99% of the time you wouldn't have the choice to do what Lozz196 said in the first place. At the 1% gig you can hear what you want on stage and the audience hears what the sound crew want them to hear.
16.
Nah, mate, 99% of the gigs we play are not that big. But even small festival etc I like to hear my own sound on stage even though its miced up or DI into the PA. Individual in ears must be luxury but if we were big enough to do that I would have roadies to lug the gear so it wouldn't be an issue anyway, would it?
Most of the time the sound guy is still deciding what the audience hears even when you have the sound you want on stage then.
17.
Why would you want to do that, do you not enjoy the noise the band makes? Personally, my sound is my sound, and I get it from my guitar, amp and pedals. I would hate to just rely on a sound guy guessing the sound I might like the audience to hear.
Are you micing your amp up?
18. How many punters does the pub in question hold?
19. There's a large estate of these houses in my nearest town that was built for the miners, a guy I used to do rewires with refused to do them on that estate after burning 3 drills out in one day!
20.
here in east sussex £250 is average, and we are a five piece so this is what happened to us, a pub asked us to play for a lower fee, given as we had never played in this pub before we all agreed on the proviso that there would be full paying gigs to follow, that's is not a problem she says we played the gig,pub was busy, people drinking and dancing and a good time was had by all guvner left at the end saying good job yadda yadda yadda nothing not a peep, for a few weeks always not there or busy ect ect, then right out off the blue last week I get a message would we like to play on boxing day, nice I thought,200 I am told only to find out later that day its 200 for the band so I automaticly say no way the drummer is the same the other guys say why not really I said are you that desperate,I for one wont be there, absolute insult then this big thing kicks off, about no budget ect ect,and they would not see that it is a piss take, the pub had a band cancel ect ect big band meeting me I am the bad guy,ut no I aint doing it they can if they want to, I have said get a dep in, they then said don't I know how much that will cost rest my case enjoy the gig guys funnily enough not heard anything since hey ho
I think you did the right thing.
21. The side of the finger is the 'correct' way to pluck a double bass, I suspect if you wound the clock back sixty years it would be quite common, at least for the first few minutes of trying one of these new fangled jobbies, they'll never catch on, not enough heft.
