1. I still want one too, everytime this thread comes up it reminds me that I want one!
2. Again though as for stock as it's not like a cattle market, that 17 string roasted MDF custom build bass you drove all the way there for might have been sold that morning! If you want a pile of Marshall £60 guitar amps to pick from go to PMT instead. Although I say its not a big place its bigger than the typical bass section of the biggest shops, its ALL about the bass
3.
Never been but It is very much on my list. Why do you have to check opening hours? The web site has shop hours, are they just a guide. I only ask cos I will probably just be browsing and feel making an appointment will give them a false sense of a big sale. Also, it sounds, rightly or wrongly, that they are only interested in experienced bassists and big sales. I am not high maintenance and like to be left alone with what I am trying, I always find I can ask if I want any help or advice.
It's only a small shop, it's not like a branch of PMT, if you are wanting to try a specific amp with a range of specific cabs and you ring before going then they will have all the bits you want set up ready to try and let you know what they do and don't have in stock etc. They aren't only for experienced players but I wouldn't suggest them as the place to buy a typical Christmas bass and amp package.
4. They are quite bulky boxes to hang off the bass, a special double lead as ebs freak suggested would be better imo, quick and neat solution and just put any pedals/preamps etc all up by the amp?
5. I went ampless last night, LD Maui behind all three of us for monitoring vocals, bass and guitar/midi stuff. Sounded fine, I had a mixer channel for upright bass and one for the Stingray and just used the volume pots as mutes.
6. Do you partake in the old upright bass? Nice new venture to add into the mix if you don't currently! Caro is very 'watchable' on YouTube lol
7. I'd certainly at least give it a try, it's sounds ok so far to me, nowt wrong with a bit of Caro Emerald either. It's all networking too, bands evolve so the backing tracks might get dropped or the guitarist in charge of them might leave and be replaced by one happy to fill the sound out on their own or even bring in another guitarist. On top of that this band might be crap or never get started yet at the same time the drummer might be in another awesome band requiring a new bassist or similar situation. Good luck and even if you go with tracks I'd say gigging with tracks is better than being a bedroom critic with no band because they all use music stands, wrong colour xlr leads, won't let you use both of the Ampegs you use in the box room etc
8.
.. I genuinely don't understand this. You can match cabs and use an amp that's narrrower than the cab. Puzzled. Frank.
Yes, matching cabs and a narrower head on top (or even no head) does not look like an absolute mess on stage as if I've had to borrow bits and pieces off three people to do the gig!
9. I wonder if the Genz Über cabs would have been more popular if stupid fender hadn't ruined everything? I'd be looking to test drive a pair of genz 1x12 cabs to match the head, I like matching stuff and I couldn't gig one of those Barefaced mountains with different grilles, badges on the side and all different sizes with the head overhanging!
10. Paul Turner puts Stingrays to good effect covering the old stuff afaik?
11.
You've been to some of my gigs then!
All of them!!!, I'm the guy the other side of the pillar!, I've spent so long standing behind them at gigs that even when I go to watch bands I just magnetise to it and stand looking at the pillar all night, sometimes they have posters on the entertain me if I'm lucky
12.
Car parks are for losers, my friend.
Awesome!
13. Bass players should never come out from behind the pillar that is installed in all pubs just for that purpose.
14.
There, fixed. You're welcome!
Ha,good point!
15.
Last I heard, JTUK had a Tourbus Hire firm ...
You should see the fun they have trying to park them all up and then turning them all around come home time in the Tickled Trout car park!
16. Pink Stingray 5 I've heard was the way he got that killer Warwick tone too, not all but some of his recordings and live too apparently.
17. One problem I do get is this, you get a text with a few possible dates for gigs, you reply right away with the ones you can do but hear nothig back, a few weeks or even months later, "ok I'll be at the venue for about 6.30 on Saturday", venue? Saturday? what's all this? "I did text you" I can't keep every possible date free just from an enquiry. Same as "can you send me all your free dates?", err no.
18. I'm waiting for JTUK to tell us all his guys must be on 24/7 call via, email, mobile, skype, landline, whatsapp and BlackBerry messenger or they won't get past the first stage in his "pick up gig" selection process! Ha
19.
Another bassist drummer here. When drumming I always turn up early, even for rehearsals, so I am often the first to be ready to play. Also means I can claim my space on the stage.
If you were a full time drummer it would be "claim all the stage".
20. We have one of those jam nights here, run by a 'star' of yesteryear, "do you know who I am" kind of guy, I never go as it takes too much arse licking to get up to do a 12 bar for my liking.
21.
Bass for me. It the only piece of kit you improve on the more you use it. You can't rehearse or learn anything from an amp or cab..
I'd have to disagree here, I think a lot of the people who keep swapping and changing amps and cabs around are looking for a magic fix, if they stuck to one that was essentially good fur a while they'd get used to what all the knobs do, one of the big advantages of a head and cab over a combo are the ability to take the head to practices and use the provided cab to "learn" how it works without lugging your own cabs every week.
22.
Bloody hell, you don't half play hard ball with the Tickled Trout.
