1. Well I've got a mini and a Morris minor, I fancied something a bit modern!
2. The deluxe versions have fancy laminate tops and a wider choice of finishes everything else is the same.
3. It doesn't, I can't wire an amp head into it therefore it isn't a cab. I use a backline anyway but almost always with a di to the foh,the point was I'd only ever do a gig with that band knowing what I needed before hand, if in the future I have iem or just use a wedge it will be me taking it and setting it up, if it was a bigger gig I'd be hiring in a bigger PA that would be spec'd to suit likewise. If you are in a band where you don't know what will be there like your typical 4 bands on the bill job or a charity all dayer then a cab is required imo even if it's a 300 watt 2x10 combo.
4. Yep Stagg user here too, bargainous piece of kit that takes up less room than the big'un.
5.
Turn up to a gig without a cab. No monitors. Other band won't lend you theirs. You don't have IEM. Then what? You need a cab.
This is why it depends on your specific situation, my main band doesn't do multi band gigs and the PA is always ours so that's never going to happen.
6. I'm looking at Austin Metros and Maestros, Morris Itals and Marinas etc on eBay, some things just can't be explained!
7.
I didn't say owning one is snobbish. They are very overpriced though.
Something is only "overpriced" if they don't sell at the set price which any shop will tell you isn't true, someone mentioned in the G&L thread that even though they were great basses the customers still left with a Fender in their shop, what they are is 'more than you are prepared to pay for one', not overpriced.
8. We've had a few cheques too, horrible things
9. They are on par with the Transit van that got you there, the Pearl drumkit that has done a million gigs without fault, the sm58 mics that have been dropped and smell of cheese but work just fine, trusty old tools.
10. Signing for the cash is fairly normal for us these days especially in brewery run pubs with a landlord running it rather than owning it.
11. I don't think owning a Fender is snobbish, in the grand scheme of things they aren't that expensive, most of the alternative versions I'd want instead of my US Jazz V cost quite a bit more.
12.
I have a lovely Maruszczyk Elwood 5 string jazz bass, it is superb, but im longing for a Lakland 55-02 Deluxe that i have seen.. what is wrong with me.!!? Why is the grass always greener on the other side.?
I must admit I'd prefer the 55-02 to a Jazz bass, throw in the deluxe and it's a winner
13. Was Dave's about 3 foot long? He's a big fella aint he?!
14.
IME on all gigs, even the smallest, a little PA support for the Bass drum tightens up the sound of the whole band.
That's my thinking too, unless you have a huge kick drum that is well damped they sound poop, of course there are gigs small enough to not need it but then they are vocal pa and a combo sized amp as backline anyway ime.
15.
I've been experimenting with this a lot , I use a barefaced super compact with a Ashdown ABM head for small gigs as it saves me carrying two active subs for the PA .
What about the kick drum?
16.
That is true I'd love to see "Blackeyed blonde" played on a DB
I can arrange a Can't Stop? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_dttkuqJwM
17.
A shameless plug. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/288305-gl-tribute-l2000-trades-1025-passive-5-or-gl/
Linky fixed and copied, what a bass for £300, crazy! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/288305-gl-tribute-l2000-trades-1025-passive-5-or-gl/
18. To think there will be people handing over the thick end of a grand for a Mex Fender in shops up and down the country today when they could buy this for £300 makes me wonder what the world is coming to?!
19.
First time I've seen/heard "King Thumb" actually playing with a band! Quite a tasty player! As is this guy - Jodie Bremaneson of Skerryvore. With a lovely blue G&L...
Don't tell the class D naysayers as he appears to have a great sound with a Genz head, what a fool, if only he knew about all the heft he was missing out on!
