1. Ah but it's got £18 quids worth of stacked pots on it,that must be worth the near USA asking price surely?
2. Some things are rare for a reason imo, I go to car shows and one will have a plaque proudly claiming it's rarity and I often think "yes I can see why!". When car designer Bertone saw the triumph TR7 that Harris Mann designed for the first time he apparently walked around to the opposite side of the car and said "oh my god they've done it to both sides!"
3.
Am I going mad - isn't that a second guitar, not a bass?
You could be right, even watching it again I cant see very well, I said they aren't my thing, lol.
4.
I'm a musician when I make music. When I'm cooking, I'm a cook. When I'm shaving in the morning, I'm a shaver. Erm ... what's this all about exactly?
To cook and to shave are verbs, musician/music isn't. Musician is a noun, Stevie Wonder is a musician even when he is alseep for example.
5. There can't be many bands where the singer is signed to a different label, she was 13 or similar when she got signed wasn't she? That would have created a 'backing band' feel from the off wouldn't it.
6.
Like you said, not much, if any info about who played on that track. But, I think during my searching, strangely enough, he has, or had a headless Steiny (Talkbass I think). So, it may well be him doing a pi** taking mime? I am sure a geek will be along with the real story behind it all. I have got to say. Terrific, tight Bass playing on the track. EDIT : Yes, he might have used a Ray, and it does sound like one...And you are the one to know for sure!!
Yes it's a nice bass line isn't it, im no expert on fretless basses tbh but it sounds like one and everyone wanted to be Pino back then surely?
7. I enjoyed the sax mime too That was my thought, fretless Ray? Not a picked fretted steiny, lol
8. I would like to see them live, she will have a good future no doubt about it, I think a hookup with Charlotte Hatherley (from Ash, plays guitar for KT Tunstall) would make a interesting collaboration.
9. Headless Steinberger (?not my thing) with a pick played to a totally different rhythm, could it be much more different to the recorded bass? What else have we found out there? Anyone fancy a stab at who and what it is actually played on? Leland Sklar, Nathan East and Dean Garcia all come up in google searches.
10. No never seen one, the principals behind everything else they have managed to do like motorbikes, cars, white goods etc would be welcome in the lower priced bracket IMO.
11. The answer to your question is of course, both :-)
12. All my amps are class D so that one is still going strong with or without the heft!
13. I'm over 6 foot myself, not as bad as people would think are they?! Ta dood it's not bad is it, still got the original Rover tape player, just turned onto 28k miles on the way to the gig. most of them have disolved now, we are planning on keeping this one forever, it's our 6th since 1998, ace cars!
14. Next stop Mcdonalds with some banging tunes then!

16. I guess so peteb, I think they've nailed it! Mind you there are plenty of pro still rocking a Ray 5 on high profile session gigs, Lee Pomeroy and Lauren Taniel spring to mind.
17.
I have owned a US Lakland since 2003 and done near on a thousand gigs with it. It feels, plays and sounds perfect. I also own an Am Std Fender which in 2 years has done 3 gigs. It sounds and plays well. It's not a bad bass in any respect but up against the Lakland there's no competition.
A mate of mine is a full time pro player, no teaching etc, he has a wall of fantastic basses but his us Lakland 55-94 gets all the gigs, to me the 55-02s feel a little less finished off than my 2010 Ray 5 and the 55-94s feel like a luxury Stingray to me, hard to describe but I find them just as molan describes above. If I could only have one bass it would be a 55-94, all the fun of my Rays (which have pickup switching as 5 stringers) but with the jazz pickup options I use from my Jazz 5. Proper working mans (persons!) bass.
18.
anybody got a plan if the PA fails? ours did once I put the singers mic through my bass amp and used the effects in for my bass via a Zoom pedal, it worked, no backing vocals (might not be a bad thing lol) of course we don't mic any instruments up
We use powered pa speakers so we would need four amp failures before we had no sound at all working on the basis we could just swap a monitor for a top if need be, that leaves the desk as the weak link,I take the old Mackie desk to the more professional gigs along with the new digital one, both together they take up less space than a typical euro mixer, worst case scenario we could put a Mic into each powered top without a mixer at all but it would have no eq/reverb etc.
19. I had one just decide to come off the ball end and another broke years ago I forget which or how. I keep spares next to me when playing, I've got loads of free ones that were destined for John Taylor, friend of a friend thing
20. I'm just enjoying a break in the wedding set, xair mixer sending the bass out front through the RCF 735s is sounding great, the audience can't hear my rig.
21. In fact here it is,this was when ampeg number two went hence neither of the cabs has a head on top. http://youtu.be/OunDwc_3m_8
22. I watched Sound Garden struggle on as two ampegs failed near the end of the night, no clean di to the desk, they played my favourite song without bass which sounded crap, he eventually stormed off after giving his bass away to an audience member.
23. I can see both sides of it tbh,I've got a van and an easy load in and out so putting an extra bass in the van really makes no difference, if I was catching the tube then I'd think otherwise.
24. I think it depends on the gig, we have a wedding gig tonight, spare bass (not really a spare as I'll play both), spare class D head, powered pa speakers and monitors gives some redundancy, spare passive Mackie mixer thrown in the van just in case the new digital one goes wrong. Freebie gig (yes FREE) on Saturday in the band stand in the local park during the day, 45 minute slot, one bass, practice amp.
