1. I'd enjoy it and already know/could wing most of it, put me down as a dep for anything too far south of Manchester for you
2. There used to be a guy that made replica 2 band circuits, they were only about £40 on ebay too.
3. I'd like to see the wireless please
4. Hi opticfibre, I think getting along to a bass bash would be a great idea, maybe once we hear it in action we will become more optimistic? My current lead is around 10 years old with no issues, I do look after them so that helps, for live use I'd be much more likely to go wireless at some stage.
5. Quite often terminals shake loose, pots get scratchy, connections get tarnished and even fairly basic amps might have a pre amp valve that's working it's way out of the holder. Most include a PAT test cert too proving the fixed power lead and fuse are correct.
6. Stingray -DI box -PA -FOH = win. I'll take any old combo, ragged house amp, foldback monitor wedge, I'm not bothered especially if I dont have to carry it
7. I agree with the others, it must be ply if it's got a join down the back and front surely anyway? The place that just did me a new sound post would be into hundreds to refit the post, supply and fit a bridge and even a cheap set of strings is what £80? £150 maximum for me, if you can get it playing for £350 and it turns out nice then it 'could' be a bargain, if you hit one single problem you'll do well to break even imo.
8.
So you wouldn't blame British Gas if it put up its prices 50% because wholesale gas prices had gone up 1%?
We know they are scumbags so partly yes and partly anyone who voted out. When they let murderers out of prison after 8 years when they categorically declare that they will kill the first person they see, and they do, it's fair to say the murderer is still to blame but so is the idiot that signed them out early imo.
9. I think it's still fair to blame brexit if brexit is what has given companies something to hide behind.
10. I'm not an expert but a few musts from me to get you started, is the sound post in place and is the bass bar there? Any major cracks or splits? Any bulging or sunken areas front or back where the sound post lines up and near the bridge? Why doesn't it have strings? Look at the edges of the F holes to see if it's a solid piece of wood or layers of ply, look inside (take a torch) if the wood grain is nothing like the outside it's going to be ply. Anymore anyone?
11. Are plastic cables good for metal? And can sound traveling by light work with heavy music?
12. It's the same as classic cars in a way, the ones that have "wow, only done 100 miles since last years MOT!" are the ones to avoid, that's when things go wrong if you do try and use it regularly ime.
13. With millions of basses in the world ay various prices new or used and with different quantities of strings and pickups etc I can't see a need to own one you don't like the look of.
14.
That's why my next bass will be
Is it good for anything other than metal? (And killing things).
15. The OP has put S.U.B so it will be the new entry level one, I'd never buy a new 34 over a used USA Ray myself.
16. I wonder if the inventors have seen this thread? Maybe they could explain it better.
17. My bartolini lasts about two weeks if you leave the Jack in, over two years with the Jack in seams overly good unless there is a passive option you leave it on?
18. They should do a flop show, remember the band they took on? !
19. They invest in crap then when someone brings a product I'm ready to buy right now they laugh them out of the room, how these people make millions I'll never know!
20.
A 3A fuse is not right for an amp that could draw over 900W. 240V * 3A =730W. I'd go for a 10A fuse as stated above. What is the rating of the internal fuse? My shuttle 6 has a T-5A internally and the max average power is stated as 400W on the back of the amp.
My musings are more in response to this to be honest mate, you cant just look at the wattage (900watt in this case) without looking at the voltage, the example above probably takes a fraction of the input wattage suggested. You can have many more watts out than you put in, but they are at a reduced amperage, the power to move a paper cone isn't much compared to say an electric motor, in that case you might need to reduce the voltage to the point that the input at 3000 watts now only drives a 300 watt motor.
21.
Yeah, but it's so worth it! Right?! I'm sure I can hear the difference.
Maybe if I was in a proper orchestra I would go the whole hog and have in rehaired with real Unicorn hair, even then I would try and get it from wild Unicorns if possible.
22. The input and output voltages are totally different, I have a 130 amp mig welder that has a 13 amp plug top on it. That crown power amp is rated at 2500 watt OUTPUT 600 watts maximum input. The fuse is only for the lead so I'd bang a 13 amp in any that has cable and plugs suitable. Watts= Amps x Volts hence once the power goes through the transformer inside the device it is anyone's guess. ie- 5 amps x 230 volts = 1150 watts that would be the Input rating on the rear panel (like the 600 on the Crown I mention) Put that through a transformer and raise the voltage to 920 volts (1-4 ratio primary to secondary windings) and now that same 5 amps at 920 volts would be 4600 watts. To give the same wattage at 230 volts you would then require 4 times the amperage, 20 amps. Very rough bit of maths, the 2500 watt PA power amp then for example that takes 600 watts at 230 volts is pulling 2.6 amps at 230 volts on the input side, so we know it takes no more than 2.6 amps but peaks at 2500 watts output so the transformer is (very very) roughly producing around 961 volts on the output side of the tranny, this is why you should not poke around in amps!
