1. I use synthetic unicorn hair on my double bass bow, those poor caged unicorns.
2. It's worked for Status Quo for over forty years!
3. Sounds more like crappy venue and/or engineer than a reason to rely on a cab of your own, if you know that can't happen (i.e. You have control of the PA like most function bands) that's not going to happen, failing that you need to do a JTUK and get written confirmation that there will be six db or d and b monitors at every gig!
4. It looks kinda bulky on the Jack socket to me anyway, can we add fibre optic leads to things you can walk out of a gig for?
5. My beater is a 2013 U.S. jazz five,I've Sold all my four string basses including the cheap ones.
6. The future of everything is wireless, No one is going to go back to a lead in the professional arena even if it's made of unicorn hair. It is totally pointless. Re brand them as heft adding leads and we will see them joining a lime light to a barefaced via a handbox in no time
7. My first bass was a Foundation just like that but with 4 strings (I was only a begginer remember ) it had the narrowest nut ive ever seen on any bass but it was a cracking bit of kit.
8. Them xotics are awesome, proper awesome.
9.
Or one of these bad boys Hard to believe he used these for about 20 years, time flies. Though a Jszz is great for playing along to the later albums.
Yep, cool as! I still fancy a Funk5 at some point.
10. There is a pub near me with basses very similar screwed to the walls and ceiling, must be a few grand up there!
11. I like the look of them tbh but an off the hook black Stingray is probably going to be more use for anyone in a Chilis tribute band, granted most people here just wanted them for what they are. The stack knob Jazz actually pre dates Flea himself by two years.
12. Well they are not they same actual bass are they, creme knobs, missing logo or has it had a little makeover?
13. I've found the 2012 onwards USA consistently good to be fair, my own USA Jazz 5 was only a few hundred quid more than a new Mex in some cases looks like a few hundred quid well spent, I also got a deluxe hard case included. I like the look of the Flea, make it in the states properly and include a case for £1400 and it would be a good collectors bass imo. I wonder if they will make a US version of the one he is actually playing?
14. I have a compressor pedal and I have put mine in the same place for the last ten years, top of the spare bedroom wardrobe.
15.
A 3A fuse is not right for an amp that could draw over 900W. 240V * 3A =730W. I'd go for a 10A fuse as stated above. What is the rating of the internal fuse? My shuttle 6 has a T-5A internally and the max average power is stated as 400W on the back of the amp.
Input and output wattage have nothing to do with each other, an Ampeg SVT 300 watt head draws 430 watts at 230 volts for example, them valves creating heat and light are wasting power compared to a modern high efficiency amp. A Crown 2500 watt PA amp will take 600 watts at input voltage.
16.
Presumably you can enjoy an evening out whether you use a compressor or not?
I like an evening in unless I'm being paid to gig, I sometimes just sit in the house looking at my music stand and a Berlitz travel guide to Milwaukee
17. I'd carry an ampeg single handed to every gig before standing on a pleasure board!
18. When you can buy a perfectly well made bass for £300 these faults are a pee take for a grand, I blame Bono.
19.
The sad little gear snob inside me, does baulk at the thought of paying a grand for a MIM.
I think that about all these Mexican signature models, I thought the mex stuff was ok years ago for £4-500, I bought a strat for £459 when they still had genuine usa pickups, it was nice but not a grand or more, used USA just makes more sense to me.
20. Get yourself an Xair mixer, tops off the main outs with more control than you could ever wish for, subs off an aux out where you can control the sub mix beyond your wildest dreams, with full control over each active speaker like that you won't be able to get anymore from the speakers you have. Individual monitor mixes and an fx rack you would need a separate van for alone if you went analogue!
21. The problem imo is that in many venues trouser flapping volume is too much for the on stage mix, that gives the guitarist the perfect excuse to blast the Marshall, the singer now can't hear themselves so the monitors go up, more feedback and now the band is louder than the PA. The dog and duck and an 8x10 don't mix.
22. It's a bank of six SVTs with an Ampeg fridge for each one!
23.
Time for a revival of this thread and a list of participants! Current state of play is the following - feel free to edit adding your name and gear you plan to bring. 1. Bassace. Bryant Solo DB, Felix preamp, Puma 500 amp, Crazy 8 or OneTen cab. 2. Happy Jack (TBC). Andreas Zeller DB and a KK BabyBass (plus, if I'm feeling mischievous, a Takamine TB20) 3. Bluejay (TBC). Cameras and video equipment; I can bring a lefty EUB if anyone remotely gives a damn about it, if not, I'll leave it at home 4. Owen 5. Neilp 6. StingrayPete1977 Gedo DB half carved and stagg eub both with Spiro weichs. Yita carbon bow.
