1. Bass is home safe and sound, it's had a new sound post shaped and fitted and the crack touched in. The price was quite reasonable in the end and I had a look at a few basses while I was in there , they were all nice but I actually took a shine to a Vivente at around £1800 over the more expensive ones. She also said they would take my gedo in on it at a quite fair exchange too, I think maybe her opinion on my gedo has gone up after working on it compared to when I dropped it off last week.
2. The function bands are often super tight, really talented, doing it to pay bills and to live, paying tax, ni, costs, agency fees, vans etc rather than taking cash in hand on top of a full time job.
3. We had this a whike ago (cant remeber the exact model but it was Mesa) the uk version actually had windings for 110v but the us version they had purchased and paid shipping/duty on etc to save a few quid didn't have 230v windings. The scam at the time was to buy one from the States then another EU version from a shop online then send them back the US version!
4. Hi Marc I bought it new in 2013 I think, I should know in the next couple of days how bad it is and a possible cause, i think it's just the wood settling over an overly long post.
5. It's all relative surely regarding the financial aspect? I know people with millions of pounds in the bank with a £750 number plate where people would suggest it's a waste (as lefty says"could have improved the car", maybe the next size wheel upgrade package or something),at the same time I stand behind people buying scratch cards in the shop, probably £10 worth that could almost certainly spend it more wisely. No point being the richest bloke in the grave yard!
6. Nah it just gets in the way of the football on the telly behind us.
7. Somewhere along the line we will get the posts trying to suggest people doing covers of bands that "were there" can do them with more passion etc as if they have more right to the songs or even borderline delusions that somehow they are almost co writers as fans! Lol.
8. It's the first thing I ask for a £250 split five ways pub gig "is there a steam room?, my pro guys I put together wouldn't touch a gig without one". ?* 8888*680s
9. J46 UAR is currently on an S class Merc, a fairly rough one by all accounts.
10. How many times did he say "you know"?
11.
I imagine a decent DB will be more expensive than anything other than a collector's item BG. I play cello and a basic Chinese cello is £1,500. New UK luthier made starts at around £8k. 'Cheap' German/Italian/French/English from around early C20th start at about £5k, anything 'interesting' starts at about £8k+. Even a decent C19th English instrument will be £20k+. DBs are probaly similar, or more...
The cost of my small repair even if it comes in within the quote would be enough to buy a giggable bass, crazy expensive hobby, I'm going to look at the basses in the shop when I collect mine, the cheapest one in there would be similar in vost to a newish used family car!
12. Well you are certainly in a better position than most of that wanted to double where I think the majority of us started with elec bass then bought these huge difficult to play wooden lumps later, all you need is a bass and a gig bag and your ready to go! :-)
13. I've heard that Zenders killer Warwick tone came from a pink Stingray 5 on loads of recordings and live shows.
14.
I wish my gigging life was as easy as JTUK's ideals.
No weddings or functions, No inexperienced players, No budget gear, will only play with top end pros passing through, will only use six D and B monitors as long as cold play aren't in town and lent them off him. There must be more to the tickled trout than meets the eye?
15. The audiences we play to like the look of my upright more than the sound of it when I start playing it! I'm not sure if a double bass for a whole set of pop songs with a full electric band would work though, a mixture of both would be ideal and a good reason for anyone starting out looking to be a session pro to learn both, I can see gigs being lost both ways to a guy/gal that doubles.
16. Good to hear Roger It's a never ending battle between your opposing fisherman with the same initials though.
17.
Order a 2EQ modern Ray
And have Shuker or someone tint the neck with the same non sticky finish, job done. In fact you could probably convert one to string through if you knew what you were doing.
18.
Good point StingrayPete........I also missed the part were he said "the EB introduced contoured body" which clearly means he knows of the new body shapes.....my bad OP Now I'm off to get some more coffee
Ha no worries, it is the heat!
19. You should start a club, there are quite a few of you now! Where's Roger (Bassace)?
20.
I love the contoured body's, I even modified a slab bodied RAY 34CA for Belly and Forearm relief, but I wouldn't mod a classic. You might already know this, but the newer EB's are available now with contoured bodies.
The ebmm non Classics wont have the bits the OP wants to keep though, strung through, gloss vintage tinted neck, muted bridge etc. I wouldn't do it to mine as I do not have a problem not having the contours and would defo hurt the value not that its for sale, I have fitted an East preamp to mine but that's reversable.
21. Yep ^ I'd rather play mustang Sally to a massive audience of people dancing and singing along than look at blank faces as we perform a near perfect rendition of an album track by Joe Bonnamassa, I've done both and I'll take the easy option every time especially if we are charging them for it.
22.
guitarist " I've put an extra solo in there "
Guitarist " we'll just cut the solo out or do a little jam, introduce the band or something" Ah can't play the solo or hasn't bothered to learn it, I see.
23. I do wonder if the chambering is why it's not a slab?
