1. You have witnessed most of mine live mate! Were you at The Varsity when Andy fell off the stage reaching for his beer and took the tuners off the Les Paul?
2. This thread has cursed me! We've found a new singer, she is brilliant! She has added Master Blaster to the set and I've got a week to nail it, lol
3.
If a black/black/maple one comes up, I'll fight you for it ;-)
Deal, lol
4. I'd still like a Big Al 5 SSS, probably in white with a maple board, they just dont appear used in any colour
5. The most likely place it would end up is on a stage with a band using in ear monitors, don't tell everyone here as they think those big Ashdown amps like theirs are actually doing something other than looking pretty, if they were just for show any stage set designer could knock up a box with leds with a remote control colour change. Some prototypes to see how they sound would be the first task IMO, then iron out the weight and construction issues, a class D head and a light enough to carry cab version would be a better business proposition I think?
6.
Which bit of " I can see your point" is confusing you ? We are both saying much the same thing. The bit about undesirables was said in jest.
Ah ok......
7. I'm just not that bothered these days, decent amp, cab (s) and a reasonable five string bass and I'm ready to gig
8. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/243237-double-bass-bash-sun-5-oct-1100-500-risley-park-hotel-derby-road-risley-de72-3ss/page__pid__2569868__st__60#entry2569868 Some pics towards the end of this thread.
9. We had some of these fearless cabs that Dave bought along to the DB bash last year, I'm still stunned at the weight and the punch/volume they had, that was with upright basses so they will laugh in the face of a weedy old electric bass!
10.
Why would they ? You make it sound as if 'That type of person' is undesirable. It really wouldn't bother me if the rest of the band couldnt read and write at all as long as they are contributing. I can see your point, I have been in bands where everyone else was, better educated than I am - doesnt say much for them - or felt somehow better, but once they realise patronising me wont work we got on fine. Where are all the PC members on here, and why aren't they writing angry posts sticking up for the uneducated, possibly dyslectic underprivileged ???
Not at all, you've missed my point (that everyone else understood I think?) They WANT the person who isn't bothered about the grammar, to THEM the stuffy grammar police can stay away while they just get on with making epic tunes man!
11. I've got Sir Duke sorted, Master Blaster half learnt, Do I Do far too hard for me! When's the gig?
12. My car is 58 years old this year, it is in better condition than the basses the faked ones are copied from that are 20 years younger and it is a car that has been driven on tarmac roads all year round for 58 years! what are these people doing to get their basses so grotty?
13.
Wow, great looking bass, just check out that birdseye! My favourite era for EBMM basses - I bet it sounds and plays amazing, too. What's the colour? (Can't decide between Teal and Blueburst from the pics.) It's a pity someone felt the need to drop an additional pickup into this gorgeous instrument. And as much as I admire Martin's and John's work at the Gallery, I sometimes wish they'd refuse certain jobs... :-)
The only thing that bothered me when I was aked about it via a PM a while ago was the bass being early it would be Alnico not Ceramic, have they managed to find a spare and very rare early Alnico to match or put two later Ceramic ones in, or one of each? If one of them at least is the Alnico original it could be put back to stock if both are Alnico I would be tempted to get an EBMM HH plate and have it routed and filled to suit with some crazy switching options, I think it should have a true single coil option on the original pickup at least?
14. None of mine are for sale, it saves me having to keep writing out price tags to hang on them, then having to redo them to suit other peoples opinions I would rather own a bass worth £50 when I am dead because I have used it for endless gigs and modded the hell out of it than leave it alone and it live in it's case for thirtyyears or more just so my widow can say "ooh look its a Dargie Delight with the hang tags in place, I am so glad glad he did not 'upgrade' it" Buying modern mass produced instruments is not the way to look after your money, my Classic 5 has an East preamp but I have the stock one and the soldering skills of a ninja but it has a long way to go to even get back to what it cost new never mind make me a few quid for my retirement.
15. The type of person they are looking for probably would not care about the grammar, those they want to scare off to save the embarresment of saying "no thanks grandpa" will not even reply, looking at this thread the plan is working just as planned
16.
Wait, is this a fact or your opinion? I'm confused!
It's a fact that it's my opinion it is also a fact in general but it upsets a few people.
17.
Well said. When a novice asks on here about how to improve the usual answer is to join a band, and rightly so. Yet here's a band looking for that sort of person and most members are knocking them. I learnt to play as part of a band with mates when I was young and we ended up gigging for ten years. Another fifteen years on and I now play doublebass in one band and electric bass in another, both bands gig regularly. If it gets them into playing live music, whether that be gigging or just playing in their garage then all well and good, if it doesn't then no harm done. As for the grammar, are we really that shallow as to say that someone shouldn't get a band together if their grammar isn't spot on? I'm sure we all understood the advert anyway. I thought the Basschat community was better than this.
I agree and still read it as you not having to be a die hard bassist to join, a guitarist knocking out root notes could be just what is needed. The fact remains that bass is probably the easiest instrument to get to gig level on imo.
18. We formed our first band at school, we had no instruments and no one knew how to play anyway
19. I've just had a massive full english and my upright playing is awful so you could be on to something!
20. I've had pms about that bass before, I like it and that neck is stunning, no unfinished gun stock oil haters allowed to diss that one. Have you worked out how they have wired it?
21. I haven't got any more spare strings yet!
22. I can sort of see of see what they are getting at, the bands listed have simple bass lines a regular guitarist or newbie bass player could handle, you dont need to be Marcus Miller to apply is what they are saying, of course that might touch a nerve with some 'less able' bassists? There I've said it, I feel like Inti
