1. Just to massively confuse matters don't some TC heads run 3x8 ohm cabs as long as they are all TC cabs?
2. I have a left hand/wrist injury and the first thing Jake did was to really go into detail about what I had done to it what I could and could not do with the wrist, he really knows his stuff and was happy that I could continue with it before we covered posture, holding the bass, the end pin height etc etc, it is worth having a lesson just for that before you play a note IMO. Funnily enough he is coming tomorrow to give me a 2 hour lesson on his way to a gig, I just have one every few months maybe even 6 months apart then I do what I can until I get stuck and book another to suit his travelling around, I learn more in two hours every 4 or 5 months with Jake than I would with a weekly lesson with a lesser teacher!
3. Sounds like you had fun! See I tried to shun the 5 string but in the end it just made sense and my beloved pre EB Rays went in the end too, I know where the nicest one is at the moment and if it ever comes up for sale I might be tempted to grab it back but in reality my days on four strings are done, unless its a DB, Lol.
4. A tiny dab of super glue on the grub screw in the knob after you have made sure the whole pot is tight might be wise if it has come loose before, it can still be removed if need be but wont fall off mid gig!
5. But if you get a good one you can have the Logo and a nice bass
6. Great reply there from TheRev, I live further than you do from Jake but as he is an awesome superstar touring hero I wait until his gigs, my house and all the planets align!
7. I like 12s more than 10s, you might prefer your Genz head with some 12s rather than the actual TC ones?
8. Tutor-Jakenewmanbass on this very forum? Bass-I suppose like anything depends what you want to spend? Amplification- some amps work fine, some will need a preamp like a plat pro to even get close to a feedback free sound! I've given up and fitted a mag pickup Go for it
9. I think EBS's light up GB logo confirms his bling over function radar was working ok when he ordered them, lol, I also know having played that bass that you can turn off the logo and the fronts (which also flash or follow patterns, sound to light etc) leaving just the functional pit work side markers on
10. Have you got a pocket sized metronome? I practice scales broken into different timings using one, arpeggiate 1-3-5 in 3/4 going up two octaves for example. Or 1-3-5-7-5-3 again in 3/4 across two bars and two octaves moving up R 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 as the start point.
11. I'd like to try a Stinger preamp, I see no reason why it wouldn't sound just like a pukka 2 eq for not much cash, drop on a used pickup off ebay and it would be even better! I still like the walnut ones but I can't justify one at all. Keep collecting Funky Dunky
12.
If you're gonna be a twat, then wear a big hat!
Trust Dorothy to get the left hand wrong, pah... Great pic though dude, I recall it from faeces book at the time.
13. I like my FZ600nS2, it sounds great in the right hands
14. I play a 505 and it's a great bass, the correct number of strings too
15.
Unless you really must have a new one is be tempted to look for a good quality used one. MM values plummet like crazy from new and you should be able to save at least 40%!
Although I agree normally a Sterling HS isn't as common as other musicman basses so finding used ones won't be so easy.
16. One of these would have been my next choice, the only thing similar design wise looks to be the TKS stuff so a lottery win would bring a pair of 1x12s from them now just for ease instead of my 2x12 or 1x12 I have now. I love them EAD handles though
17. If other bands were asking about the car you drive I'd never get a gig again!
18. What's the best car for metal?
19. It's only a matter of time before we get into finger style and rear routing at this rate!
20. I've met quite a few more than 10...and I think you're right!
21. All matching drivers would be ok but a risk of it sounding bad, mixing the drivers in the same box could result in a crap sound and/or two of the four drivers being blown. I'm not sure a pair of modern 2x12s would be a "move down" from a Hartke 410/ampeg410 rig either?
22. If the better quality drivers hide the sound of the lesser ones crapping out you will end up with a 2x10 in a big box imo? Specs are one thing but it could be the 100 watt ones that cope better than the 125s!
