1. The natural and the black are still in the lineup, probably the only ones that have been available from the start. Ive just noticed they have dropped the wording single piece from the body wood specs and the natural one in the photo does have a join up the middle, which my pre EB did to be fair but it looks like single piece bodies are getting rare?
2. Just had a look to see what colours they are doing now, vintage burst is the closest to mine now, the red is nice like you say and comes with black pickup and pick guards now or do you mean the old coral red? I liked the pastel range but they have all finished by the looks of it?
3. I'm not so keen on the sledge finish, mine is tobacco which they only did for a while I think? Is it called retroburst or something now but more sunburst-esque?
4.
I'm curious as to why they are "clueless"
Have you looked at the links?
5. Also you might have something where you are playing causing the hum, stereo amplifier or a fluorescent light fitting, anything with copper windings really?
6. Seymour duncans, bare knuckle, maybe some used Fender USA ones off ebay or even in the for sale here?
7. The bad earth on many basses is often from the wire either being pushed into the wood or what looks like sinking into the finish as if it was bolted together before the paint was dry! Slacken the strings and unscrew the bridge, pick the earth wire out from the body, clean it up and the rear of the bridge plate then move it to a new place and screw the bridge back on. Check the other end at the jack socket and the general condition of the soldering etc, if its all good welcome to the hissy single coil pickup club, putting both pickups on full normally stops it, or buy a Stingray with a humbucker I like bartolini pickups but they work best with active basses ime, I cant help with the wilkinsons, sorry.
8. I'm a big fan of black stingrays but I think it would be a shame to cover up that lovely single piece of ash slab body when many high end basses are made of 2 or 3 lumps? That said I like the powder blue!
9. When I sold my knacker Ashdown rig and bought my first Genz Benz rig, a 2x12T and a Shuttle 6.0 head I could not understand what I was wrong with it, then it dawned, it was me! Playing with that much clarity made any slightly bad timing stick out like a sore thumb! I am still a sh*t player but at least I found out what it was
10.
Streamers..two 4-strings & a 5 in this vid.. https://www.youtube....h?v=SELnJ3nMS5k
Very cool, go on who wants a laser printer thing now?
11.
That looks great!! I say leave the neck as is. The black against the natural looks good.
I agree, do that
12. Looks great, why we had to wait and pay for the Classic5 to get a normal Stingray 5 I will never know! You could get a EBMM logo once you have stripped it but then what Logo would you fit as its neither a Classic5 or an SR5, maybe just put the Ernie Ball musicman section of a logo on and seal it all up? or maybe try and get a SUB logo again?
13. Haha it is good fun though! I have said it before but the Stagg neck is good IMO for anyone wanting a DB later/as well, it is a bit smaller than my DB neck but it gets you in the ball park and if you can get the finger spacing on the stagg you will be able to play a DB other than most DBs have no fret (stop) markers at all! If anything I play elec bass with a 3 fingers DB technique now rather than the other way around, its easier to fudge over the frets on elec bass than try and play finger per fret on the DB.
14.
is that the new Fender for 2015.? kidding of course.
Done properly I think I would prefer this to the "firewood" Jazz!
15. The best thing is not get hung up on the numbers too much other than matching the minimum ohms load cab combination to the head, if you were to try a good quality single 8 ohm 4x10 with your head putting out the same175watt you do now it would fill the room out loads more than the 1x10 setup, two 8 ohm 4x10s with your head then giving 300 watts might surprise a few people what a box not much bigger than a VHS cassette can do! I had a 'debate' on here a few years ago with a guy who wanted a new head to get more volume but only had a single cheap brand very compact 2x10 cab, I don't recall what head he had but it was quite big, Streamliner 900 maybe, I said my 3.0 with the large Genz 2x12T cab would demolish his setup but he was having none of it, fixed on the 900 watt Vs 300 watt head part! I presume he has very trashed 2x10 cab these days
16.
That's the sort of finish I'd expect on a HBenton DIY bass - at £68
At £68 for that lot it does make you wonder how they get to £1400 for something like my US std Jazz V doesn't it? Won't stop me buying more though so I guess that is why and yet they are still millions in debt! Lol
17.
Agree 100% (he says, with a sunburst Jazz and a white Precision within arm's length!)
Ha well there you go, I'm halfway there with the Jazz and I have a hankering for a white P5
18. Best keep an eye on how far up the arm contour the 3 tone burst starts to go! the word that jumps out at me was "firewood"....
19.
He's got himself a Warwick..as seen in this The Voice USA clip.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2c5h2D9IQI ..pause on 0.30 for a good view of it
A fine choice and a link to Zender via Ronson after all.
20. My mate works at the BBC in Bristol, the only person he has ever been star struck by was Terry Nutkins! RIP Terry.
21. It doesn't matter really does it? Fender have been releasing awful new models every year for as long as I can remember, no one takes any notice providing they keep making 3tsb Jazz basses and Oly white P basses they will shift more units than everyone else and at the same time probably get into more debt
22. Imagine how many extra orders were placed during the closure of the store from people spending christmas money all over europe! I think we need to be realistic, if this was a UK store they would be hiding behind the holiday period as an excuse until what March? Lol, looks like they took about three days all in to catch up and as someone else pointed out wasn't the 6th a holiday too, fair play I say.
