1. The far eastern stuff is ok, some Japanese yamahas etc but the cheap stuff ain't as good as the "I love my squier" threads would suggest IMO, great if you are happy with it but for me a good USA bass still had the edge and a top end USA clone is in first place.
2. It doesn't matter which bass is best, the best basses I've ever played were a Nathan east Yamaha and a celinder jazz update but I've not bought an example of either even though I've actually spent more cash combined on various stingray and jazz basses because well I have no idea really? Lol ,until someone can bottle that magic ingredient Leo sprinkled in things will remain the same.
3. I've stopped chasing the dream, couple of bits of wood bolted or glued together with strings held end to end, its all in the fingers etc. I rejected two Laklands with minor defects over a flawless Fender Jazz so it's not so simple imo.
4.
Fad.
Fanned afficionado diehard?
5. The retailer should just instruct an appropriate repair centre to fix it who will get paid just the same.
6. Surely they have a European warranty? Contact the shop you bought them from would be my advice.
7.
Fingers were hurt in the making of this picture!
Owww!
8.
I never understood why for so many years the Ray 5 had a ceramic pickup, yet the Ray 4 had the lovely alnico ones. I wonder how many people that disliked those ceramic version fives would like them again if they tried them with an alnico pickup?
I love my ceramic SR5, try one in a live mix, brilliant beast of a bass! But then I love a 2eq alnico ray hence the classic and I really like a good old alnico but with 3eq for live gigs hence my 2010 SR5, lol
9. Most are fretted conversions to fretless ones or had the maple board cut off and a RW one fitted afaik. A 'transition' era one would do you though, same as a pre EB but you can have RW and it will have body contours?
10.
I'd sell a kidney for that !
If I ever need one I'm sure we could do a deal
11.
It certainly looks better than the "normal" SR5, and it's good to see a properly finished neck & not this DIY oil finish bollocks.
The neck profile is ace too, flat like an early 80s Ray rather than the clubby shape people think of.
12.
I daresay you won't be the last to be disappointed by a Stingray 5, particularly if your a Stingray 4 player. However, the classic series fiver is the 'real' stingray 5 and I would love to give one of those a try. Sorry if I have induced further GAS

Love my usa 5 string sub .....only bass I gig now not the prettiest ..never really inspired by the stingray 5 ...I'm dropping some big hints to the other half about buying me a classic 5 ..they are jaw dropping beauty's and I need one in my life !
Im just leaving this here
13.
I would stick with it for a while. I bought a Stingray and didn't like it at first - stuck it under the bed for six months, picked it up one day and now I can't put it down. Maybe it will grow on you.
I first tried one in 1993, it was awful, didn't know what all the fuss was about!
14. The newer 2008> Am std basses are much nicer than ones I'd tried (many times) before, I have its 5 string cousin same finish with the 4 ply tort but a RW board, lovely basses, enjoy
15. I think we have dropped Daewoo here and just adopted the Chevrolet name instead? Quite rare cars here though.
16. Bloody foreigners coming here and paying in full cash on collection as promised with no funny business.... Can we see his passport photocopy now then?
17.
I've done a couple of weddings where the groom and some of his mates had been in a band together before and have done a short set between our 2 sets. It had been agreed in advance and we loaned our gear to them, no real problems either time though I recall on one of them the singer getting a bit over-exuberant with our singer's mic stand which got him a bit twitchy.
Bride sang a song to start the set, groom started on drums for the second one, both a surprise for everyone but us, lol
18. The thing is we are not a wedding band or even one aimed at dancing really! The bride chose us after coming to a gig or two and the muso types in the audience are not so much pub and function giggers like many of us here but rather piano teachers and classical guitarist etc. Many of them came up to us during and after saying they enjoyed/were enjoying it which is nice compared to the usual drunken ranting of "play sex on fire!"
19. Sounds like a holiday in England is required then
20. If I hadn't just bought a puppy I'd have bought this! White and maple SR5 with ceramic pickup (?), stunning glwts
21.
I wonder how many of your drummers change their snare, their tuning, or cymbals, or whole kits depending on the song being played. Or is it that all modern music has the same drum sound, by coincidence that of your drummer..? How do they (we..?) manage to 'plug and play' without all these gadgets and pedals..? They must be pretty good, no..?
Erm.... Pic from new years gig our drummer with his Jobeky electric drums, the world is always changing
22. I've not felt the B strings to be that much different to anything else that has a good B already, Lakland, GB, Sadowsky, Alleva Coppolo, Roscoe etc etc and only a touch better than my Musicman Classic5 which is only 34", that said I do like them and I'd happily buy one if I liked the sound of it. The Tribute you have is already a good bass as are most once you get out of the very budget stuff, the difference between a £159 and £459 bass is much larger than those between £459 and £1459 imo and ime. Visit bass direct and try them all
