1.
Don't tempt me. I've even got the black polo neck and grew a goatee over Christmas.... damn, I've got GAS now Nice.....
Well you should check out some Gedo basses then, loads of us here have them, I am sure that will cure your gas for one....or maybe make it worse...either way have a browse around the DB section on here, Lol Jazz.....
2. You get constant updates of exactly where it is all the way until its lands in the UK then it becomes a lucky dip, also I have never known a company as good as Thomann for packaging , what did they do wrong?
3. Good work Jose, I bet it will come out nice, I'm not sure what the Classic neck finish is but it's not sticky like some, that said I dont notice my Jazz being too bad either. My normal Rays are filthy!
4. Calling Rick's fine 52..... Does nowt for me personally. GLWTS
5. Lol, the harp player at a jam I used to frequent used a large tweed covered bassman combo, it was the biggest amp on the stage, bloody racket!
6.
Manufactured from lead?
Having played a 15lb 70s Fender that would be about right! Someone in the porn section has one over 18lbs, 18lbs!!!!
7. Even at 259 for a regular one it would be a steal, a deluxe for 218, brilliant!
8. The traditional Fender bass amps do nothing for me, even as kid I remeber seeing stuff like that in the second hand shop, or junk shop! Lol
9. The funny thing is I would buy a Fender amp if I knew it was just a rebranded shuttle, once a few had been sold to forum members and we had looked inside they could well have been doing alright with them, then again £250 million in debt or whatever it is would need a few units shifting!
10. Bargain of the year and the year has only just got started! £218 crazy
11. Were Genz amps in any form of competition with anything Fender made? I think more likely they wanted some of 2) but either dropped a bollock and did not pull it off as planned or ran out of cash to implement it properly with the new rumble not being a match for the old Genz, a simple redesign of the facia was all that was needed to keep the Shuttle and the Streamliner models on the shelf but with a Fender logo on it.
12.
Just a quick response to the comments about reading; to be a proficient sight reader takes years and is a skill that needs constant attention.
As I said, I cant sight read but I can read and enjoy books in notation, just slowly. The sort of theory required to look like you know what is what is mostly in notation ime. I'm the same Mel, 2 hours with Jake can get me much further than hours looking at a screen or a book, that said again having Jake teach me what is on a page of the book for me to learn then gets me to understand the next few pages on my own until the next lesson, I'm due a lesson actually.
13. Flats on a ray sound massive,I don't know why more people don't use them, I might get some myself! No idea which brand to use though but the ebmm ones come well regarded afaik?
14. I've tried to combine three subjects in my lessons with Jake Newman, I started mainly for double bass lessons but I have a proportion of the lesson on theory to relate the practice pieces to, scales for trying to learn where the actual notes on a blank neck are for example, because the text books are done in notation by association my reading has improved (a little) our own doddy taught me to read in the first place about four years ago. I'll never be able to sight read and never need it to get a gig but understanding the theory has been easier being able to read. A good teacher should get you going with something suitable but be warned, for everything you learn with theory you will have two new questions! My ability to jam has improved loads since learning more theory which sounds like what you want to do,I can read a chord chart and add a few extra notes in knowing they will work before anyone has struck a chord, it's all smoke and mirrors but it looks like you have extra powers, lol Good luck whichever way you go with it
15. Hankering for some jazz?, fancy stretching yourself?,Hmmm sounds like we might have a promising DB newbie if you haven't gone down that route before?
16. Six years is pretty good ime, most bands explode before that long. I've found doing nothing has worked well for me over the years, the phone just tends to ring at some point and eventually I'll get involved and so it starts again, unfortunately the best bands musically have exploded sooner than the not so good ones, people watching us live don't realise how hard the whole band thing is, playing the songs is the easy bit isn't?! Just chill for a bit, make sure people locally know you could be available and see what turns up.
17.
And these turned out to be the winners, and JTUK just happened to know someone selling a pair of them . After a NYE gig with them, I'm very happy. Plus they give me even more permutations on the car-sized Tetris that I do for every gig (bass gear plus PA and foldback and some lights).
I presume there is another TKS order on the books now then?
18. If the money was right I would wear a tutu and play a pink P bass
19. I'm not going to dial in a crazy slap tone for Bob Marley covers, versatilty is key imo and I am very versatile as is my gear I'm either going to get along with people and they will enjoy my playing or they wont, I've eaten my share of function band buffet food too but never to pay my mortgage, I dont want to do that either, I'm already losing half a days holiday for a wedding gig on monday night with work the Tuesday after.
20. I know, he was in all week then when I turned up for the last half a day after they knew I'd want to do it (guitarist from Slade they told me!) he had just gone when I arrived, came back just after I left! I was well behaved and didn't try and instruments out either, just looked with my eyes, lol
21.
Mine is also old, blue and in Nottingham!
Cripes that is in better condition than my new Jazz I bought 2 months ago!
22. Not easy with any Slade song, they have done some great tunes slightly overshadowed by the obvious one! (I wired Jim Lea's boiler, he wasn't in though,Lol)
