1.
American Deluxe would be my starting point..
As you know from my old 5 string jazz thread I had a relatively open cheque book but went for the usa standard over a choice of two deluxes, the preamp to me was just a bit meh, drop a john east in mine and it would be much better than the deluxe imo, I still got a trans urethane finish rather than poly, 4 ply pickguard, graphite truss reinforcement rods etc and I ended up with a deluxe case thrown in as pmt had sold mine! I could enjoy the OPs Squier no problem, I dont think you can choose a level like "deluxe as a starting point" with Fender but rather choose one thats good which could have any price tag on it!
 2.
I have a straight on one end then a right angle on the other, that covers all the angles
This is what I've got, angled in my jazz, 3 eq side mounted stingrays or front mounted 2 eq stingray but my EUB has a strat socket and the cable hangs down into the strings on my double bass with an angled one so they both need straight ones.
 3. You can't fit an angled jack in a 'strat' style recessed socket, my eub only takes straight for example.
 4. Tbh I'd clean it then just 1200 grit wet and dry, no stickyness and can be reversed to full gloss easily later. Damp cloth and a tooth pick for the fingerboard maybe.
 5.
Sounds like you need to get to the shop
No point now, you've got it!
 6. Ha you havent heard us murder them, they dont end up as close as described, lol.
 7. Me likey a lot! I much prefer the tuners 4 and 1 too compared to 5 in a row Fender 5s, I like maple, I like blocks,I like jazz basses, I like oly white, I like 5 strings,I like black pickguards and I like chromes knobs....so it was in for a chance of me liking it! Lol
 8.
This one will soon me mine, bought from bobglaub01 here on BC: Is it blue or is it blue...?
That's proper nice!
 9. I was REALLY close to buying the DJ5 over the Fender am std when I bought mine but the Fender is really good and I always said I would grab a usa fender 5 if it was good after playing quite a few rubbish ones!
 10. I've just bought my first fully passive bass in a long time too, I'm getting used to it and resisting the option of fitting a preamp. I wish I could get used to P basses, I'll bet the low B sounds great with the tone rolled off on the P pickup if you find the right song for it. My ears are very tuned in to active basses though are yours?
 11. ^ oh yes I like all of that! Where are you based, I'd come and see that live
 12. I think it looks the biz and I bet very versatile too?
 13.
Hello, where did this come from all of a sudden? This is Painy's NBD thread! In any case, MMR announced a while back that he's no longer using F-decals on his basses.

The only issue for me was that I am a self confessed gear snob. I though I could overcome it as I really liked the bass but couldn't help feeling an irrational pang of shame at being seen on stage with that Harley Benton logo on the headstock and so I began its transformation. Today is my new bass day in the sense that it is now finished and ready to unveil to the world. As I say, please don't judge me on the 're-branding (limelight owners backme up here) it's never gonna fool anyone close up but it's made me feel better about playing it out.
If you read the other posts the clues are in there
 14.
As a geezer, it always makes me just a little sad to see that tune credited to the Black Crowes. Great song though, and oddly enough the BC arrangement is about the only version I've never played. Other than that, your set list is pretty similar to a few bands that work a lot around here. It'd be all about the vocals as far as the ceiling for gig quality. My song list? Mostly the Real Book, version 5. Most of my other calls these days are original soft jazzy rock/blues stuff.
I credited them in my list as its inspired by that version, there are others in there too like everything I own. I missed live and let die off and I would put Guns n Roses next to that.
 15.
It's like a five string bass, only much poorer quality.
Someones been at the sherry already! Lol
 16.
on varnish?
it took me a while but the clue is in the and his SR5 in his gear list
 17.
i would beg to differ there old chap - we always get a really good response from the motown stuff we do and not just from the old 'uns who are old enough to remember it first time around
90% might be a bit unfair but the genre wasnt really my point hence the *
 18.
Why Thanks it's rough and ready, but a great fun night out, the drunker folks are the 'better' we get
If it works it works, the drummer from my originals band from the days when we had hair and dreams has been doing a similar thing for years, slightly more rock and indie based than your list but they do some abba etc but all 15bpm faster than the record, no nonesense just a great night out with people up dancing from the off! Some members here would turn their noses up because the bassist hasn't got the exact tone for this or that etc etc, they even have a stand for some songs but I doubt they care what the musos think playing to a packed room of often advance ticket only punters!
 19. I like it, makes me want to see you to hear how they work out!
 20. 1200 grit wet and dry, shape it around the neck and just do the playing area, you can bring it back to full gloss with a fine polish later if you sell it. I do like the satin on mine, I agree its less sticky than a full gloss and I've not needed to sand mine this time.
 21. Looks a nice bass! For the record I have no issue with fake logos, I even put one on my Squier jazz, my issue with it compared to most situations was two fold, firstly Limelight like it or not are operating as a business regardless of the size of the company and that is just wrong for a company to do it, thats not my opinion its law, secondly people said they were clearly not trying to be passed off as fakes due to the logo on the rear logo, well I'm sorry a scribble in sharpie made to look a bit like the bass tech put it there to be able to tell one bass from another is hardly like a proper logo under the laquer declaring it as a copy.
 22.
That's nothing to do with Facebook. That's your cookies settings. All sites use them. http://www.allaboutcookies.org
I know im still bring followed everywhere but without Facebook they cant turn my recent viewings of stuff into suggestions, requests and adverts to shove down my throat! I was looking at Atari 2600 games on ebay then a week later my facebook is full of Atari stuff, I dont like it. I was going to start a bass playing account to keep in contact with bands and musos I know to keep in the loop and get dep gigs etc but to be honest people have got hold of me no problem and I'm as busy as ever
 23. I'd enjoy Dad's band from an audience pov, thats my sort of music! Some good tunes amongst all of those, keep them coming and merry christmas! (I've done my bit and chilling now )
 24. Cool sounds like not getting the custom shops did me a favour then, being a 2013 am std mine also has a trans urethane finish. Fender can make a nice bass when they want to can't they
