Band Break-Up Issue (Selling and Splitting the PA)
stingrayPete1977 replied to neptunehealer's topic in General Discussion
This will explain how he came to £63: Hi exact message he sent: I have gone online and seen the value of it all second hand. The mixer and power amp I will keep as it will be used next year. Right The two tops combined second hand are worth :£218 The subs combined second hand valued at £318 The mixer is valued second hand at £ 270 The power amp valued at £329 So if I keep the mixer and power amp its worth £ 599 If you keep the speakers all 4 they combined are worth £536 you can choose to sell or use in a new project. Of course I will pay you the difference Between £599 - £536 = £63. That way its simple fair and we still have to only buy certain gear to complete a complete Pa system if we wanted to use it with future projects.
So he has done what I suggested to you, lol. The only question here is are his valuations correct in your opinion? -
Band Break-Up Issue (Selling and Splitting the PA)
You've had 5 years use out of the PA. How much did you pay towards it. The ususal way to solve this would be to put it on eBay and split what's left 4 ways and give the guys who walked away their cut too. The speakers will be no use to you on their own and second hand value very low. I'd either take his offer or walk away. Personally I would always go for one person owns the PA and the band hire it.
With respect the op has not stated what the equipment is, it could be a nice powered sub and a digital desk worth far more than the 4 old speakers and £63 in which case walking away would be an unfair suggestion imo. What about making an itinerary of all the parts individually, find 10 completed ebay listings for each bit and asking him to agree to taking an average sale price as the given market value, add up the bits he wants take away the bits you want (end up with), email the list/proposal to him stating that you have checked the legal position (basschat lawyers, lol) and the only other option is to get a 3rd party to sell it and divide the cash up, make it clear he is welcome to bid on it just to piss him off a bit! -
Not my music stand stand btw, lol
The bigger the stage the smaller the rig you actually need. Get big enough and a di box would be big enough
That is my finding, at my haloween gig I could hear myself louder from the onstage sub and our log burner monitor than my own amp (its behind my upright), it sounded great too especially with the DB! I could have left my cab at home and just used the di out off my shuttlemax head or even just used my Behringer BDI21 box. Fingers crossed, you should get a free set of your choice with the bass too if you post the registration card I think?

Using a music stand in a covers band
If you put the lyrics on there too then everyone will be able to sing along.
And maybe some suggestions of what they should wear just in case they thought they were out to enjoy themselves rather than nit pik every aspect of the band!? Lol -

I was thinking more like handing out ipads on hercules stands so the punters dont need to put their pint down to read them -
musicman uk-excellent customer service !!
stingrayPete1977 replied to ebenezer's topic in Bass Guitars
I better check my neck plates! Where do they crack? S and T always been good for me, a genuine mm pickguard is about half the price of a copy off ebay too! -
Might be a bit obvious, but have you changed the battery? Happened to me once
Beat me too it
-
The five year old strings need replacing before you do anything else and what about the battery?
Should there be tick boxes on the flyers for the gig? 1. Music stands will be in use at this gig 2. Music stands will not be in use at this gig It's only fair after all to let the punters know in advance to avoid them having to walk out in a huff.....
I'd add.... neo cabs, class D heads, basses with more (or less) than six strings, leds lights other than any starcloth backdrops, left handed bassist that is not Paul McCartney, plectrum used on bass, fingers used on bass but for rock style semi quavers, any slap should be done only under the supervision of Larry Graham unless written permission from either every member of the audience 2 weeks before the gig or from every member of basschat via a poll thread, 1x12 combos only allowed with an extension cab, 8x10 cabs must be used at full volume even for quiet songs, no active basses allowed but passive basses can be used with an outboard preamp as thats totally different, fanned frets under no circumstances, no frets not allowed unless its a double bass unless you play Pino's 'wherever I lay my hat' line between every song all night. -
There is a knot near the G on the side of my double bass neck, I tend to work around that, lol

Our main singer in my function band sits down for the whole gig..... -
I used to and still do with one band but not if I take an upright, playing a two hour set on the db that was rehearsed on a 5 string electric could be interesting!
-
It would look terrible if the route was the other way for the MM pickup, it would also look wrong to have the writing different way on each pickup too, plus you would end up with a weak E instead of the weak G from the MM pickup that I've never seen on a Stingray anyway, lol

Phil has nailed it for me, if your drummer is louder than my Genz 2x12 acoustically I'll eat my hat, if you are using that much fold back on stage to make everyone as loud as the amps at full tilt then, A-the pa being used should be able to handle some of your foh to be sent on stage and B-for me personally and don't get me wrong I've been known to rock out, a stage at that volume isn't where I want to be on a regular basis. From my first gig to my last I'd say the loudest stage sound has been in rehearsal rooms or very small venues, the quietest stage volume yet with clarity of all members of the band has been on the largest stages I've played on. One band I play with uses electric drums, it's been known that we can talk at normal volume during a song which is a bit odd and I agree not suited for rocking out but great for certain gigs.

No one wants to look at the top of the singers head all night but I have no issue with it if they barely look at the book and just glance at it now and then, the songs should be in order in the book before the gig starts though I do agree with that, standing watching someone looking for the words isn't fun for the audience or the band stood like spare parts! -
They're just jealous because they can't read music/don't know the names of the notes.
Exactly, if these unprofessional bastards with stands didn't need to read the dots they could get another job that takes up all their time instead of earning a living working as a musician then just play at the pub once a month like the rest of us! At least they would look pro without the stands then even if they had to quit being an actual pro and work at B and Q or something,Lol -

I think the Modulus neck that he wanted was the problem more than anything, why they never reunited and put graphite necked rays with a choice of nut width options into production I'll never know? -
Going round in circles here... How do you know what stages you get to play...? Because the person getting the gig will tell me where it is, if we haven't either played there before or seen another band play there we will either go and see it if it's local or search it on the Web, maybe find YouTube clips of other bands there, check the venue website etc etc Is it a question you routinely ask..? I've never turned up at a gig totally blind regarding the venue size to some extent even if it's purely capacity based. do you use a stage tech rider etc etc Do you get one..? If the gig is too big for our pa we either hire a bigger one or use our own guys, both do lights, one of them did the take that tour if you were wondering what level of crew they are!
I've used my 2x12 at the local pub and large outdoor festivals, it is more than enough for any of them.
-
If its that big it WILL have a proper pa with wedges everywhere possibly ones that sound better than my bass rig, I run a 900watt head but my ears would be bleeding long before it started to distort.
I'm going to make an announcement at my next gig: 'Please stop dancing and instead watch me not using a music stand'. Actually, perhaps I won't bother because normal audiences really do not care about music stands one way or the other.
this^
