1. Even Larry didn't get a custom Ray, nor did Flea, closest I can think of is either the Tony Levin OLP or the Sledge limited editions.
2.
Nah, that was before you ditched the Stingray for a Fender
says precision boy....lol
3.
Fixed it for you.
Thats unfair, I think there is maybe two or three people out of all the thousands that likes me, lol
4. Some bands will knock out dancing in the moonlight and alright now as they have done for the last thirty years and want a pat on the back for not using a stand or a cheat sheet just out of sight from the punters. I had 28 songs to learn for my first gig with the party band in the picture above in about two weeks while gigging with another band, all the keys were changed even on the ones I knew a bit anyway, I had a set list with notes made by each song stuck to the rear of the speaker cab that I glanced at once per song.
5. There isnt a gig where my 2x12 would lack enough stage volume, if that was running flat out and the rest of the band were matching it then it's not a stage I want to be sharing
6.
Personally if I walked in the local to see a covers band and they had music stands up in front of everyone, think I would try the next pub.
If you had walked in here you wouldn't have seen the band below head height until we finished playing, if you could see the whole band clearly I'd agree the next pub is in order Different band, whos looking at the music stand?
7. I cant agree that its the difference between amateur and pro bands, I've seen FAR more pro level bands with stands. Heres a thing, if your band is so good no one should be watching the band unless they are up on a proper stage, if you are a good function/covers band the view should be obscured by all the people dancing, just sayin'
8. Everyone wants them to offer the same build options as Fender, Fender are something like £250'000'000 in debt, as much as Sterling appears a cock who has the right business model?
9. I cant fault either PMT or GG in birmingham for service, im certain both of those shops would have got me a coffee while someone jumped in a car and got them.
10.
Not so sure... depends on the gig. Quite a few guys that I know don't own them ( haven't been allowed to keep them ) so that means the gig has to be geared up to afford them and some gigs can and some probably can't. You'll still need a sound source and that may be direct or mic'd... If you are talking top top level, then in ears will be a factor mostly, but down the scale..??
The guy I know that will be playing stadiums with his modular MarkBass 4x12 does not use in ears and I am sure he will have a killer live sound on and off the stage, they will have a massive pa of course but even so I still think the bass amp as such is a small part of the live kit, many people dont mic them up yet comment on such a rig sounding great, can you hear the rig clearly at the back of the NEC?
11.
....I've seen the weight of PJB cabs! Not lightweight in the slightest! being a good player is better than having good gear. Lets face it, in the majority of cases, if you couldn't do the job straight into the desk with the venues spare DI box, then no amount of gear is going to help you.
This is how I have always rolled, Stingray into a £15 Di Box from the 80s found in the drawer a few months ago into the desk, bit of foldback for me and the drummer, nasty middy sound behind me from my own amp for clarity for the dusty end stuff and a great FOH sound mixed by the engineer
12. I wont tell if you dont.... I have said this before but I will say it again, one mans botique is another mans decent gear, one mans decent gear is another mans minimum level required to gig with etc etc etc, In reality we all know that a well set up bass for around say £300? plus a decent amp and a tuner is good enough for most gigs, personally I feel we are only here once so if that rare baby smurf skin gig bag for £1500 floats your boat I say grab it
13. OK this guy will endorse a paper bag if they pay him so he never appears to play the same gear more than once but you get the idea, they are all wearing in ears, it is smoke and mirrors folks, those amps might as well be set up back stage or wireless from another studio, smoke and mirrors https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcB0gS3mtO4
14. What most people miss is the in ears though, great go and watch someone rock out in front of a massive rig then when they have finished and they go and talk the show's host or whatever they pull out the cutom molded in ears that have better ear protection than most folks wear for a clay pigeon shoot! I have never ringed the EQ out of a combo for the FOH sound either, pre EQ Di everytime for me unless I have control of the desk which is rare.
15.
I have a few Ricky basses, I like your posts, thats because Pete I am an adult who like discussing things with other adults without becoming childish. I actually have a right chuckle at some stuff you post as well, a lot nearer the truth than some like, but it's still a good read.
Deep down everyone knows I have a soft spot for Rickys and P basses but they just dont work in my hands really, still I do enjoy winding a few people up
16.
Shut yer gob, you musicman faker
I have to keep up the pretence even if I have not gigged an MM bass for weeks now
17. I was always taught that if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all, of course I took no notice and that's why I am disliked by anyone on here with a Ricky bass
18. Just put another 1x12 cab under it and job done, a mate of mine is running two MB 1x12 combos both with a 1x12 cab underneath to make a 4x12 modular rig, he plays everything from the local Jam night to Birmingham Symphony hall with that setup.
19. I just watched the Bohemian Rapsody one, it is either the best or worst thing I have ever seen?
20.
Nice looking bass, I see they even 'reverse' the pickups compared to a right-handed instrument. Happy new bass day!
They haven't? Unless you meant like this?
21. The retrovibe stinger is the one I think, its just a copy of the circuit so should sound the same, I dont recall the sub I tried being active, what versions are there?
22. Well mcnach will be along to tell you to get a John East 3 band which would be cool but I think a guy on ebay sells the 2 eq quite cheap, theres not much to them really.
