  1. The xvive didn't work with my Stingrays.
  2. I think my big genz rig is going on the for sale pile, if I need anything big for a dep gig without in ears I've got a couple of smaller setups or a pair of RCF 735s, I'd just have to struggle on without any heft obviously
  3. I don't even use an amp anymore, I think you're on to something with the idea that there was too much going on, Stingray straight into a mixing desk sounds awesome, for me with anything passive I'd need to send the signal through something first, as most people do.
  4. How many passive only players that state they are better than active have a truly passive setup with a cut only eq on their amp and foh?
  5. I find passive basses lifeless, even my double bass goes straight into an active preamp.
  6. So the guy I used to play with live after he'd written and recorded a whole album where he played every instrument and sang on it only became a musician once he'd took to the stage?
  7. Was it even a single, i thought it was just for the Coneheads sound track?
  8. There's some good stuff on their recent albums but most people haven't given them a chance. I still like the one hot minute album too. Soul to Squeeze is still his /their finest work and only a few pops and hammer ons in the middle eight rather than any slap.
  9. Most of the very busy and solo bassists use at least five strings, there's no reason to think a skinny jazz neck is faster or even more suited to the higher melodic stuff.
  10. I rarely play an open E anymore. If anything I'd rather have a BEAD bass than a EADG one if a five wasn't available.
  11. You wouldn't need a pair of class D power amps to bypass the venue's system, a regular one has left and right in/out but I know what you are saying. Good luck! Us bass players do seem to get these tasks.
  12. I can't see any reason not to just use a pair of xlr to jack convertors then, what sort of power in Watts are we talking? You could get a cheap class D pa amp and hook up the output to the venue's speakers sort of turning your desk into a powered one.
  13. A blue bass or a red bass or even a natural bass isn't trying to be something it isn't to convey a story it can't tell.
  14. It's like putting M3 badges on a 320 diesel BMW, probably fools a few people that don't know much about cars but those that do think you're a douchbag.
  15. If its a euro desk style mixer with a built in power amp why can't you just go into two channels of the desk xlr to xlr, the connections are even already the correct way around from the outputs of an xr mixer being female on the mixer and male on a channel strip. That way you're not having to unwire the venue's instalation in any way plus the FOH EQ on the venue's desk should already be right for their speakers in that venue.
  16. I can't stand the grotty hardware on the heavy relic basses, I wouldn't want to touch it to play it. I've seen many pre cbs fenders that have clearly had a working life yet none have had a fully rusty bridge like that.
  17. I suppose the trick now is working out what percentage is metal box, marketing and transformer then! Thanks.
  18. Never given them much though before, remove from sticky beer soaked puddle on stage, plug in and play! I've used my various Genz heads for recording but that's where my technical involvement has ended.
  19. Thanks Jack that's interesting as the music shop /studio where we practice had a passive and active box we borrowed to see how the guitar sounded and the passive box was more expensive which seemed odd.
  20. Long term I'm probably going to rack mount my xr mixer so a passive box in the back hidden with the router etc will be ideal, basically put the box down plug my bass into a jack on a blank 1u or 2u strip with some other bits, USB charge points for Ipads etc, a dual lead that's feeding my in ears and bass and that's me setup! I'll have a look at the emo boxes then too, thanks BRX.
