They are really nice basses that's probably why -
Does changing the bridge make much difference?

Hmm badass on my double bass...... -

The tailgut and the endpin block on a DB would be a better comparison to an electric bass bridge imo, different end pins make a big difference and I presume the block of wood at the base would make a big difference to depending on its size and or density. -

Anyone who has tried my upright with a mag pickup has agreed that there is more to it than metal strings moving around, so the sound of the whole instrument is to some extent important. As for the OP the answer is no not much. -

I don't think that is how resonance works, to add sustain you want the whole bass, neck, body and strings to vibrate as a single piece, the solid bridge anchored well lets the strings and body become one rather than the bbot acting like a sponge bouncing the strings vibrations around and jumbling them up, less extreme but the same thing as stuffing a sponge behind the strings. -

I had a badass on my Jazz, I'm sure it added some sustain which as others have said suits a Jazz more than a punchy P bass, more importantly I just found it better for setting up and the look of it. I dont like the way the saddles on a bbot can move laterally either. -
Its tricky, I like my eub and its great for live gigs especially if room is tight either at the venue or regarding transport but the DB is just ace and looks great on stage, check out the db eub porn pics for proof!
Went into the Bass Gallery earlier in the week and tried out an Overwater and a Sei. Both beautiful to look at and play. The Overwater was probably the better spec but I just fell in love with the Sei. That ebony board and the neck are just a joy to play. Been thinking about it all week. Just called up Martin and pulled the trigger.... I'm not sure the taste police will approve - CAR with gold hardware and light up red led fret markers. I'd have preferred something just a little more understated but then it's not as if there are hundreds of these to choose from.... Life's too short not to have that bass in my life.
That will be the bass that was discussed early on in this thread, if it had been blue with chrome hardware I'd have bought that unseen!
Hi Pete, Have you seen this Sandberg at Bass Direct... http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Sandberg_TT5_Creme.html I'm seriously tempted but my ideal spec is black with a tort or parchment scratchplate and Sandberg Alnico 5s. For £600 less I could go for this one though!! I'm currently playing a Shuker Jazz with Aaron Armstrong Dual Coils (check the spec here) and it sound amazing...I could say that I don't really need another but to get that vintage vibe, I'd really like a Sandberg. Fenders JBs haven't really done it for me...not with frets anyway. Good luck with your search
That does tick the boxes doesn't it? Good spot, on my list it goes
I don't know if it's been mentioned earlier, but there's a Skjold J currently for sale here on BC which might suit you http://basschat.co.uk/topic/246269-skjold-lions-pride-5-string-super-jazz-l1525/page__p__2591963__hl__skjold__fromsearch__1#entry2591963 maybe a deal can be done.
It's a bit too coffee table for me
Went to guitarguitar Birmingham yesterday and tried Lakland DJ5 in grey. If it was in white I would've gone home with it!
Really...that's interesting because I like the colour of it so if it plays good we might have a winner! Nobody is allowed in that store now until next week!
Reminds me of an old issue of Bass Player where they did a feature on Testament's bass player and obviously went over the kit he was using, his bass was a Fender jazz of some variety, a Geddy Lee I think. Two pages later there's a full page add of him and Dave Ellefson advertising Peavey basses
Daft ain't it yet people will buy them because of the signature so who are we to complain? If I really put the hours in and buy an Adam Clayton signature do you think I will play like him this time next year? 'Coz I f***ing hope not -

It makes these endorsee whores look like idiots if you ask me, flea did a massive campaign for the Acoustic amps, it was in every magazine going but by the time they went on tour a few months later he was back with GK even though the adverts were still being printed, I'd have stayed with the lakland and I bet he would have too but who is on the board at fender, bonio and his bald hat wearing mate so it's no surprise is it? -
Build quality and reliability are not the same thing and often at the route of fender debates, fanbois getting shirty because their 70s P bass has never let them down in forty years so it must be well built, no that's reliability it can still have a massive neck pocket allowing lateral movement of the neck, a truss rod that won't allow a very low action, bad fret work from new etc, that is the build quality. Some arm chair internet speculation does go on but the majority of people suggesting try before you buy even on deluxe USA models are mainly just trying to help out fellow bass chatters, often the person suggesting poor build quality has a whole range of fender instruments they love but also know it took a bit of filtering to get there. All is good then after all so no chance of Genz being sold off and put back into production then?! Damn.

I really like them other than the anaemic neck colour but even that will tint eventually.

I do like a solid feeling bass, my 2007 SR5 is bit too heavy but is also my best sounding Stingray and can almost do a smooth thump even though it is the only ceramic pickup equipped Stingray I have and they are meant to be grittier, I think maybe it can be but if you back off the treble it smooths out where the Alnico ones dont? The polite DJ5 thing might not be an issue as I would be using a Stingray for anything dirty! I liked the 55-01 but that was a bit polite too but then again it was to be my main bass at the time so I was looking for something else, the 95-14 is in stock at B'ham but in my least favourite finish of the three options or else I reckon I would end up with that!
