1. PJDJ5 Thats cool! I like the blocks and the colour matched headstocks, usual Lakland build quality?
2. The shuttle max 9.2 is brilliant, the foot controller is good, made of metal and has a really long lead on it,I suppose a mute switch would have been nice but other than that it's awesome, power wise it's never broke a sweat with a single 2x12T cab, any venue where you would start running out of puff would have a proper pa with fold back wedgees. What one person finds compared to another may be bass related too,a lot of stingray users appear to like the big shuttle heads, they work together well for some reason, saying that I used a jazz bass for years with my 6.0 and was more than happy.
3.
The Overwater is now even cheaper. I'd say that you could easily move this on at no loss if it didn't do it for you. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/247011-overwater-jazz-5-string-bass-was-l1100-reduced-to-l975/
That is a good price isn't it, I'm not mad for the colour and I want rosewood to be different as all my stingrays are maple.
4. Got a list of basses at various shops ready to go at on Saturday, charcoal Lakland DJ5 is now looking favourite but I've got a whole range of multiple fenders to try at a few places,I will try every single one and if I like one I'm going to grab it regardless of the colour within reason Got a nice gig for it Saturday night too!
5. That's was my plan if this one split but it's been fine so far
6. I love my TU 2 , very well built and works well but they do munch batteries so I've got a mains power supply (cheap maplins one) and a multi plug lead that also feeds my Fishman Plat Pro when playing Double Bass. The bright colour leds probably eat the battery but with the mains plug I keep it plugged into my tuner out and switched on all night. Handles low B and the upright bass no problems, the poly function is fun but pointless Edit, im lying I have a Polytune 2 not a TU2!
7.
I can't agree. Almost all music is good only in its genre, but rubbish outside of it. Good punk is rubbish classical, and vice versa, imo. (Other genres are available...).
Well I can't agree then check out some postmodern jukebox cover versions on youtube and report back to my office at breaktime
8.
I'd buy the same thing again. (Shuttle 6.0 combo and the ext cab)
All my gear (three amps and both cabs) is Genz and all no longer made so we well be fighting over the classifieds! In light of that probably some bergantino cabs and three new class d heads, not sure what but I bet bass direct would be happy that day!
9. Just making a list now, only Thomann has the Oly white USA deluxe in stock, Andertons say ready to ship from their suppliers, what does that actually mean, why 2 weeks? are they getting it from Thomanns! Guitar Guitar pre order only but they do have the black and maple at least worth trying out? PMT have a burst 2012 Standard model to try. Bass Gallery have the Oly white RW Tort but in a Standard USA not Deluxe? Can you think of anywhere else to visit in person?, I want to gig it Saturday!
10. I've just 'discussed' my shopping trip next saturday over a nice 3 course meal, went quite well Jazz Deluxe looking OK :-D (Russ we are on if you're still up for it?)
11. Ah I dont like a deep neck either, so that could be the squier out for me too, I'm not keen on the look of the modern player. The Ibanez is really nice, I use one at practice some weeks as the front man in our trio has one, good B string, good preamp and pickups, nice neck, nice bass
12. Sad news Must be the biggest bass player losses since I've been on bass chat unless I've forgotten a big one? RIP Jack.
13. Rebop 5 on my list too but I'm meant to be jazz shopping! Did anyone mention the rule regarding images of a photographic nature or the purchase of said article not taking place?
14. I find them easy enough to play but also a solution to a problem I dont have and the B string although good was no better or worse than a good 35" scale bass. I'm more likely to get a bass with no frets than fanned frets to be honest
15.
A used Yamaha BBNE2 would be within your budget. I have one and it has completely cured my 5-string GAS.
They are VERY nice basses with awesome build quality, but I just want some form of Jazz again
16.
Eww!! Not content with allowing a strange old man (who likes children) into your house while everyone's asleep, you want him to... ...oh God no, it hardly bears thinking about. Merry Christmas!!
It's only once a year, close my eyes and think of Stingrays!
17.
My best advice I have for anybody is this - Most musicians are self serving ass hats. Beware who you befriend.
Current bands are ok previous ones this ^^^^, when current ones become previous ones rinse and repeat
18. I've got weichs and as a beginner I dont find them that 'weich' I'm sure they will do the job
19. I've got a Yita, its nice but it does have a leather grip, mother of pearl inlay. No idea what the hair is made of?
20.
Once upon a time you had a choice of Jazz or Precision. Now there are simply too many different options. Just looking at US-made basses there are a bewildering array of "base" models, vintage models, and complete over-saturation of signature models (who are all these people?!). Then multiply that by MIM/CIJ/MIJ/Squier. The result is that it would take weeks of research to decide which particular model you think you want - and then have no hope of finding an example of that particular one in any physical music shops. IMHO though, the worst shot in the foot are the excellent quality basses coming out of Squier at the moment. Why would you pay Fender US prices that approach the cost of a custom build, when Squier do very similar basses, of very giggable quality for a tiny fraction of the price?!
This is spot on imo, I'm not looking at the specific models much because I want to try before I buy so it will be dependant on a few shop's stock, at the same time top of my list is a Deluxe USA Jazz V £1550 ish but I'd have no problem in walking out with a Squier version if I felt it was really good, and people say they are.
21.
I know. Wish I'd bought it - second time I've played something, put it back whilst wondering whether I should or shouldn't only for somebody to pick it up straight after I've put it back and then take it straight to the till! :-/
Its like those people who watch people play the gambler in the pub and only play after enough people have fed it for them!
22.
Shoulda bought that Ibanez too... :-/
Life's to short, from now on if I like it I'm buying
23.
I know we both are GAS-ing for Laklands so Darryl Jones it is. I'm quite set myself now to get a DJ5 in white and maple when the stock arrives.
I fell on love with a DJ5 EBS freak was selling but I didnt play fives at the time, what a dufus I am!
