1.
1st - Is the only difference in the instrument exactly the same except for the body wood? Or, are there other differences in the design/implementation? 2nd - It's quite easy for 'everyone' to think something, and for it be wrong. Look at the history of science, it is full of examples.
1-Afaik they are no different to a 3 eq ray with a RW board but with a mahogany body instead of ash. 2- that is true but they made 783 of them and the punchy comments have come from lovers and haters of the brand rather than fan bois only. They are however strung through which is a whole fresh debate!
 2.
My body wood made a baby.
BigRedX has already suggested that the way the glue is spread could be a factor!
 3. The one fly in the ointment is the mahogany Stingray 30th anniversary model, everyone has agreed that it sounds different to every other Stingray made of the more usual, ash, alder or poplar. More punchy comes up everytime?
 4.
Excellent! ;-)
it's all in the name of science, I've no idea what the others are made of actually or from how many pieces of wood, the Classic is a single slab of ash.
 5.
You say 'tomato' and I say 'solanum lycopersicum'.
You need some cream for that then, couples of weeks and it will be fine I dont think there is much a good 5 string Jazz with active/passive options can't do?
 6. I've got three stingray 5s, one is ash and a trans finish the other two are solid, I'll just grab a chisel and report back..........
 7.
If the wood species of the top alone could change the sound, then you'd expect the wood species of a solid one piece body to make an even bigger difference. Hence, that would seem to be the logical experiment to try first. BTW: I'm not saying that you think that the wood species of the top will make a difference, I'm just talking about what the most logical experiment to perform first would be.
Even then what are we going to measure, no one here can agree exactly what, darker, clanky, growly, thin, boomy, brittle, etc is can they?
 8.
I acquired an SB2 recently... It's exceptional. But now I've got GAS for an M2000.
Why no tribute Asat and why no asat five strings?
 9. Not many basses are made from solid fancy wood though are they, also these claims are often made when its only a top added that has supposedly altered the tone, "spalted woodius wormus top adds amazing top end zing compared to my book matched rotten knotted hazelnut one" etc
 10. Great basses imo, proper tool for the job, if the ceramic pickup and preamp on this wont cut it in a live mix nothing will! Glwts
 11. I hope so, maybe he has just stopped selling them rather than Clover stopping making them.
 12. Just doing my bi monthly scan of basses for sale and one of the brands I click on, clover, has gone?
 13.
Yeah,IMO there's no "right bass". I gig with several different basses and they are all fun to play and I hope to have them for a long time. Now there are things, like the right technique, skills, ability (chops) and dexterity that I'm continually trying to get right. I know some of you have had success with off brand and less expensive basses, That has not been the case for me. Blue
now I have gas for an ASAT
 14. My double bass has deprived a couple of nice solid topped guitars from being built
 15. I was wondering when the British motorcycle industry would come up I see them as two bits of wood made by a machine screwed together,I don't see how there can be much difference from one to the next if you know how to set it up? Same goes for the comments regarding lime light etc, not exactly hand made like a Fodera are they. Still if I see a nice jazz five I might grab it as I have an F hole in my collection right now
 16.
And even then, they might have meant C minor.

No, you'd be told if it's in the minor. Major is assumed.
That's my take on it bassace although I guess it can't hurt to be specific either.
 17.
Also annoying: 'It's in A.' 'No, it's in A minor.'
That's the sort of thing I'm on about, saying it's in C would have been better!
 18. Anyone else get set lists for gigs or dep gigs etc with the keys written next to each song but they have failed to understand the concept of musical keys and actually just given you the note that is either the root of the opening chord or the most common note in the song?!
 19. Mine has been great, brilliant amps, I must try it with my 2x12 just to see if I've ruined my 12 inch cab or if the head needs checking, possibly new valve time
