1.
That's why you can never be dissapointed with a custom build!
Which the fs section is always full of!
2. This is what Jake Newman has been teaching me along with double bass technique, having a teacher really helps imo, doesn't have to be every week, once every few months can be enough to get you pointing the right way then when you get stuck again have another. Doddy taught me to read music which has also helped with learning some theory as most of the books are in fly droppings I'm literally just a tiny bit in front of this topic on the two octave scale (9th 11th and 13th to confuse me) and how the different chord tones fit within the scales thus in turn why certain notes work in a chord progression, your brain is already trying to go there by the sounds of things , like Doddy says though I (we) need to learn note names rather than shapes which I'm guilty of! Good luck and enjoy
3. My thumb naturally goes to 'that spot', well mine would wouldn't it lol but even on my acoustic bass it sounds a bit stingray-esque!
4. I play all sorts of styles from Reggae to country, rock to pop and I could play all of those songs on the Peavey Foundation I bought new in 1993, having a B string is probably the only thing I would really miss if I went back. I've seen everything from folk music to two handed tapping and crazy skills and chops on a Stingray so I can't see me outgrowing them, I might add a five string super Jazz to the collection at some point though
5.
You'd have to ask my guitarist. He plays through a bass combo, and supplied that for sharing. I don't share my gear with strangers these days. Again, probably, but it was addressed to one of the other members of the band. I don't recall us being publicly thanked over the PA at any point, if that's what you're asking. S.P.
As the saying goes, a bit of manners goes a long way.
6.
I have work for charities and have worked with the Guide Dogs. They have a reputation as having far too much money that they don't know what to do with; so that is particular sad to hear that they treat musicians in this way
I suspect they were just a miserable bunch, the organiser was a nice chap but either way I won't be doing any more free gigs.
7. What about the other bass players? Or a general thanks to the band for supplying all this expensive equipment for nothing for all tonights bands to use?
8. Did everyone thank you? The lack of thanks has been instrumental in me never playing another charity gig. And what Spacey said but lets not go there
9. Thats the theory but I dont find that the 9.2 has any more depth than my 6.0 or even the 3.0 regardless of which cab I use, without having them together with the same cab its hard to say if it adds much imo, the preamps are all quite different in my three heads though and they never did a 3.2 so I'd like to compare them, the 3.0 FET only, 6.0 valve only, shuttlemax is twin channel with one of each but it has more knobs to fiddle with, in fact I've never seen so many knobs on an amp as my shuttlemax
10. If she had been trying to get here illegally sureley she would have come stowed on a ship, you know in the galley, with the pots and pans clanking away ?
11.
Er, that's what 'off topic' is for isn't it?
No we all have to say what a shame it is for twelve pages regardless of her possibly bring a twenty three year old teenager that the UK immigration must have had at least some reason to return her to Brazil
12. Yes report back, I would like to hear what you think of it I think my Genz 1x12" is past its best to be honest, I have treated it poorly as I use that cab with my 6.0 it has become my least liked Genz amp preffering my 3.0 with the 1x10 or the 9.2 with the 2x12, I need to check it out and maybe get a new driver for it really.
13. 23 is hardly a kid is it? There is more to this surely, my sister in law is Brazillian, her and her family travel to and from Europe on a regular basis without any trouble at all.
14. I once stumbled in on what I thought was a slap bass for total beginners course, level 42 t shirts everywhere and coffee table basses being beaten to death, turns out it was a bass bash, and boy were they bashing them!
15. I'd say without both together you'd never know enjoy.
16. I have a 3.0, a 6.0 and a 9.2 shuttlemax, they are all different but all similar to me, clean as hell through to quite a bit of grit but its not an ampeg. Someone was trying to tell me the 9.2 had loads more bottom end than the 9.0 but I pointed out that they were using a cheap 8 ohm 2x10 to compare them, I tried to point out that my 6.0 into the 4 ohm 600 watt 2x12 cab (they are quite a large cab too) would blitz a 9.2 into that cab (insert any other decent amp for the same result). I'd have either if the price was right, I have the 6.0 1x12 combo and a mate has the 6.2 1x12 combo, I cant tell any difference in a band mix but I haven't had a chance to compare them in isolation. Edit to say it Sounds condescending regarding the cheap cab, to clarify the person stated it at the time and was waiting for a barefaced if I recall? It was a few years ago now.
17.
+1
+2
18.
IIRC that was StingrayPete's suggestion to his band. edit: You could pre-empt the feelings about charging a charity by making a donation of your own direct from the band. I've found quite a few folk involved in charities recently who use it as a profile raiser for themselves personally, it's kind of an Emperor's New Clothes scenario. Getting past those folk to the ones (if any) who actually have a clue what the hell the job is about is a nightmare.
You are right, top marks for paying attention The guide dogs one made a few quid I suppose but only what we would have normally charged, the football one earlier would have been better if everyone had put £3 in a pot.
19.
It's only in the last 3 weeks that I had 2 basses. In 20 years of gigging I've never had a problem, the worst that can happen is the battery go, but I change those regularly, and I can switch out the preamp. One of my tutors play like that, as does Lee Pomeroy. It would totally depend who it was. I've let guys at uni use my bass, but I know and trust them. I only play 6 string basses anyway
no not like that, the OMD guy plays a regular left handed bass flipped over rather than a lefty strung righty like Lee Pomeroy! Crazy
20. I started a thread a few Weeks ago about this very topic, I've declared to both of my bands and various jam night friends that my services are no longer available for charity gigs, the last one was for guide dogs for the blind, played for two hours, our lights,pa, dragged my double bass out too, didn't even get thanked by the guide dog trainers who attended it only the organiser, never again for me.
