1. Most peoples rose tinted specs about 60s cars are based on them as old bangers from their youth rather than when they were new cars, I always run old cars without any problems, a few modern tweeks like elctronic ignition saves me altering the timing and cleaning points etc and modern oils last better, other than that they are good to go I'd have a modern Chinese bass or Car though and certainly I would rather have a Chinese car than a French car
2. Big thumbs up from me! Schaller 411 fanclub member here Bargain.
3. Thats what I thought, as if it has been hit hard on the front and the soundpost was the toughest thing in line, and won!
4. I was amazed at the price.........until I looked at the pictures, ouch
5. Different colours for each string makes me thing of d'addario guitar strings, so could they be helicores or similar?
6. Thats it, I find you sometimes need to cut the bass a little if you use the LF, both together and with an active EQ on a humbucker starts to get a bit boomy ime, useful for using with various cabs with different voicings though.
7. Did you have the LF engaged? if not putting it in might have made the cones equally as flappy a the MB.
8. It's in my manual I'm sure, from memory it's 80hz in normal mode and allows down to 37hz when you engage the LF button. This topic is always followed by an argument about why I have a five string bass if my amp only goes down to 37hz......
9. Nope it would be the wood right next to the glue instead You have seen Nick's stingray he glued back together haven't you? I can happen although rare as hell.
10. Adding a top alone will add strength back a body made from multiple pieces of wood adding a back also would probably make the body stronger than a single slab of wood, basic engineering init.
11.
There isn't an issue. Pete simply asked what it's worth because we'll never know due to it not being an auction listing. I explained what I think I would pay but that its hard to know what the item's 'value' is when we'll never see what it sells for...
Thats it, as im not up on fender prices I was just interested as to what people here think its actually worth, maybe it will turn into an auction eventually and we will see?
12.
It's essentially just a CS version of a US Deluxe Precision. I quite like it but it's only worth the money that the winning bid pays!
it's not an auction listing though so we will never know, thats if it ever sells.
13. Not for another year as it stands mate but maybe a Bristol based one could happen? Make it a bit further up the M5 and I'm sure some from this one would come to it yet still be near enough for devon, cornwall, south wales, south midlands etc?
14. If it was listed as ordered like that I wouldn't have known would you? Someone obviously just likes a pj and happy to have it done, there will be other people that like it but whats it worth?
15. I presume getting posting rights removed is for posting personal insults? For all my trolling ,self oppinianted, chip on my shoulder, slingnay, last word harry antics I haven't had a ban because I haven't called anyone a name I have never asked a mod to block anyone or have a word with them as I am plenty big and ugly enough to not give a hoot. Anyway what was is thread about again oh yes P J custom shop, I really dont mind the extra pickup, the 3 piece body is not to MY preference so it is mainly the price thats an issue? If someone wants a top notch P bass but with the J pickup is it so bad? They get all the nice bits of the CS plus the J option neatly done, what would it cost to spec one the same new?
16.
I don't think there's anything structurally or sonically wrong with a three-piece body as long as you can't see it! Plywood. Now that's a LOT of pieces... yet some of the most expensive high-end basses are made from laminates.
I dont mind seeing it, in fact if it was rear routed without a pickguard I think it would look better, maybe even quite cool? The way it pokes out from behind the pg here and there doesnt look like an expensive bass to my eyes, that body should have gone in the solid black batch imo.
17. Basses made of many pieces length ways make up for strength and tone via the thru neck construction, for me it needs to be one or the other. Yes I said for me imo ime etcetcetc
18. One day there might only be me and you left talking to each other Discreet, lol
19.
I wouldn't say that the ash/alder three piece body is indicative of poor quality, it's just a rather eccentric design decision. If I was ordering one, I wouldn't go for that, but then it's not my bass.
Two pieces I can live with but in one thread we are talking tone woods and here is what looks like a neck thru Gibson with different wings attached, I cant see it being good for tone or strength, Nick from nicks guitars plays a Stingray that snapped in half down the joint, he bought it like that and glued it back together.
