1. Who said that?.....my quantity of tosses can be counted on one hand these days what people think or say on the net or think of me, people who know me know what I'm really like, probably why I have no friends!
2. Think what you like, I have long since given up trying to please everyone and anyone who knows me knows I have no chip on my shoulder. All I am seeing is you stirring it up, the posts in the other thread were about high end Fenders and their construction, this one is a high end Fender that is below par IMO hence the relation of the threads. In fact the other thread was not even about Fenders it just got trolled and trashed by Fender fans as the bass in the OP was Fender shaped. I believe there is a block function? feel free to use it
3. Yep it's no good for Arco, I'm unlikely to Arco live but it's a good point.
4. I lose interest quite quickly to any twiddle stuff what ever instrument it's played on, if a player is sitting with a single cut through neck seven string bass in a you tube link I rarely open it
5. That's what I do yes, if I didn't have the Fishman already in an attempt to control the various piezos I would run it straight in like AP bass but I have found setting it roughly to the Fishman recommended pizz settings in the little book make it sound really nice and super thumpy, I just leave my amp totally flat and a Genz shuttle flat is about as flat and clear as any amp out there. Piezos meh
6. Well most people at the bash tried my bass with just the mag connected via a Fishman into the Genz amp, general consensus was that it sounded like a double bass, once in a loud band mix I think only upright players would notice and as long it sounded good would they care? I have now decided I'm going mag only and took off my Bass max, for what it adds the complexity of blending them is out weighed for me personally. Long live the mag pickup
7. Another black black and maple, classic no nonsense bass
8. Well he said I pissed him off but "never again" so either I am blocked or he is going to bump me off The reason I bought it up was because it is related due to the 3 piece body, the bass in the picture has one hence the association, I thought that was quite clear, maybe not?
9. Cant beat a last minute gig watching a band you weren't too bothered about only for it to be awesome, bit like when the support band turns out better than the band you paid to see, nice one
10.
That bothers me far more than any of the modifications. Plus the fact that the body has been made out of 3 pieces of wood.
I ended up on Karlfers hit list for suggesting things like my single piece slab ash body on my musicman classic or in that case a Lakland being better than Fenders like this, he said that im a knob for not adding a IMO, who would prefer that 3 piece body for tone or visual reasons? As for modding it its nothing that special is it? I have a john east pre in my ClassicRay, I guess some people would have winced as I unsoldered the factory wires on a £2200 bass but its my bass
11. No problem feel free to pm me with any questions our start a thread as there is a few of us with them now
12. All I can say is both Jake Newman and Geoff from the discover double bass lessons both think my Gedo is a good bass for the money, they are good to deal with too ime. One person had a problem with a finger board and they quickly offered them a choice of acceptable solutions other than that everyone appears happy with their Gedo basses
13.
You guys are doing wonders in promoting the DB world ... Following this thread and a few others I now have serious DB gas!
It would have been an excellent introduction day for anyone thinking of taking the plunge, I wish there had been something similar a couple of years ago.
14.
So, I'm presuming It was a good day !! Is it gonna be an annua thing or bi-annual ( hopefully ) I can arrange gigs around the next one 😉
The Fearless and Fearful cabs impressed me a lot! There is rumblings of doing it again in a years time
15. I used to find it wanted to spin round but not any more, is the framework sitting on your body? Im not sure one in a fixed position will help as you should be nice and relaxed and able to tilt the bass as you move up the board towards the bridge. I think even with good posture (mine is slipping into bad habits again) for a few months you will ache a bit, just try standing in that position for half an hour and you will ache a bit.
16. I think you are right Bilbo, I haven't got the time to do it anyway with the other two projects already. Thanks Roger, I was really pleased with the mag pickup sound, I think we can put this giant P Bass myth to bed can't we, I was expecting it to stick out like a sore thumb against the other amplified basses in the room but it just sounded like a DB to me. I'm also glad people liked my gedo and its good that you lot have seen a few in the flesh now for the next "im after a cheap double bass thread"
17. Thanks Geoff, I was pleased with how good the mag pickup sounded especially when you were playing, lol. We should have tried it through one of Daves big amps, it sounds huge in my 2x12. From all the basses I tried I found yours, mine and Keith Stentor student to be the most similar in feel. I really enjoyed it
18.
Are you sure it was a musical swing group?
Either way I wouldn't normally be at the top of anyones wish list
19. The guy is called Pete Jones, he is just getting people together now. He gave me a list of artists I'd not heard of other than Ray Charles He mentioned 40s era? Probably perfect to get me playing better in a short period of time but I haven't got time so I told him straight. He has asked a few jazzers but they all just wanted to know how much cash was involved, I dont think he even has a gig for it yet.
20. I'm not even on facebook anymore yet my number gets around, that is my first call specifically for DB though! Maybe my intonation wasn't as bad as I thought at the last gig I haven't got time to do it though as I have agreed to potentially quite a few function band gigs on elec bass. Anyone near Stafford that fancies getting involved in a new swing band project let me know, not much money in it yet but could be fun.
21.
Oooh, that would suit me then!
Have you checked the ads on this very site?
22. Where is EBS freak when you need him? Afaik both the people I know first hand that are ebs to the core sent their 360s back, I have personally PAT tested a 350 for both of them too, one has it squirelled away the other is taking his on a European tour and will be using it at some high profile gigs very soon. They both also have a 650 they wont sell but both prefer their 350s too.
23. I once saw something similar that had been reshaped from a generic P bass copy body into something similar, the body edges made me think that to be possible here too?
