1. No problem feel free to pm me with any questions our start a thread as there is a few of us with them now
2. All I can say is both Jake Newman and Geoff from the discover double bass lessons both think my Gedo is a good bass for the money, they are good to deal with too ime. One person had a problem with a finger board and they quickly offered them a choice of acceptable solutions other than that everyone appears happy with their Gedo basses
3.
You guys are doing wonders in promoting the DB world ... Following this thread and a few others I now have serious DB gas!
It would have been an excellent introduction day for anyone thinking of taking the plunge, I wish there had been something similar a couple of years ago.
4.
So, I'm presuming It was a good day !! Is it gonna be an annua thing or bi-annual ( hopefully ) I can arrange gigs around the next one 😉
The Fearless and Fearful cabs impressed me a lot! There is rumblings of doing it again in a years time
5. I used to find it wanted to spin round but not any more, is the framework sitting on your body? Im not sure one in a fixed position will help as you should be nice and relaxed and able to tilt the bass as you move up the board towards the bridge. I think even with good posture (mine is slipping into bad habits again) for a few months you will ache a bit, just try standing in that position for half an hour and you will ache a bit.
6. I think you are right Bilbo, I haven't got the time to do it anyway with the other two projects already. Thanks Roger, I was really pleased with the mag pickup sound, I think we can put this giant P Bass myth to bed can't we, I was expecting it to stick out like a sore thumb against the other amplified basses in the room but it just sounded like a DB to me. I'm also glad people liked my gedo and its good that you lot have seen a few in the flesh now for the next "im after a cheap double bass thread"
7. Thanks Geoff, I was pleased with how good the mag pickup sounded especially when you were playing, lol. We should have tried it through one of Daves big amps, it sounds huge in my 2x12. From all the basses I tried I found yours, mine and Keith Stentor student to be the most similar in feel. I really enjoyed it
8.
Are you sure it was a musical swing group?
Either way I wouldn't normally be at the top of anyones wish list
9. The guy is called Pete Jones, he is just getting people together now. He gave me a list of artists I'd not heard of other than Ray Charles He mentioned 40s era? Probably perfect to get me playing better in a short period of time but I haven't got time so I told him straight. He has asked a few jazzers but they all just wanted to know how much cash was involved, I dont think he even has a gig for it yet.
10. I'm not even on facebook anymore yet my number gets around, that is my first call specifically for DB though! Maybe my intonation wasn't as bad as I thought at the last gig I haven't got time to do it though as I have agreed to potentially quite a few function band gigs on elec bass. Anyone near Stafford that fancies getting involved in a new swing band project let me know, not much money in it yet but could be fun.
11. And there you go
12.
Oooh, that would suit me then!
Have you checked the ads on this very site?
13. Where is EBS freak when you need him? Afaik both the people I know first hand that are ebs to the core sent their 360s back, I have personally PAT tested a 350 for both of them too, one has it squirelled away the other is taking his on a European tour and will be using it at some high profile gigs very soon. They both also have a 650 they wont sell but both prefer their 350s too.
14. I once saw something similar that had been reshaped from a generic P bass copy body into something similar, the body edges made me think that to be possible here too?
15. My own ocd would make me want to swap one of the cabs to make a matching pair though, id be more than happy with either outcome especially with any Berg cabs
16. One of the best bass sounds ive ever heard in my life was a 1971 Jazz bass into a pair of Bergs via a Shuttlemax 9.2 head. It was totally killer!
17. My gut instict is telling me that the neck and body have been united later? The body shape and the P J pickups are screaming 80s or 90s at me but the neck and headstock appear much older, could the body be a home brew added to that neck? I must say though, I like it
18.
Thought I'd share this one for others to add a caption...
"You're right Kev, Geoff's bass is lovely but I still think it needs a leopard skin cover dont you?".
19. Ive tried loads of basses, they all sound pretty good after about £250 to me, but on the other hand you dont know how nicely it played or stayed in tune or never had truss rod adjustments etc do you?
20. I didn't explore the eubs enough, tried Sarah's meccano one and Keith's Yamaha, I want both now naturally But then there is those Kay basses! And I liked the very old basses, and the newer basses, and all the blonde basses caught my eye, and maybe a five string with out without a leopard skin cover. Basically I want it all.
21. I think the ones I have liked had Barts in, what do the new "lakland pickups" in the 55-94 and 55-14 actually have inside?
22. +1 I think anyone thinking of taking up DB would find it really interesting too.
23.
GJ is called Mike.
Ah there you go, come on its not like we spent 6 hours in a room with him wearing a sticker with "Mike" in big letters written on it is it?......
