1. My own ocd would make me want to swap one of the cabs to make a matching pair though, id be more than happy with either outcome especially with any Berg cabs
2. One of the best bass sounds ive ever heard in my life was a 1971 Jazz bass into a pair of Bergs via a Shuttlemax 9.2 head. It was totally killer!
3. My gut instict is telling me that the neck and body have been united later? The body shape and the P J pickups are screaming 80s or 90s at me but the neck and headstock appear much older, could the body be a home brew added to that neck? I must say though, I like it
4.
Thought I'd share this one for others to add a caption...
"You're right Kev, Geoff's bass is lovely but I still think it needs a leopard skin cover dont you?".
5. Ive tried loads of basses, they all sound pretty good after about £250 to me, but on the other hand you dont know how nicely it played or stayed in tune or never had truss rod adjustments etc do you?
6. I didn't explore the eubs enough, tried Sarah's meccano one and Keith's Yamaha, I want both now naturally But then there is those Kay basses! And I liked the very old basses, and the newer basses, and all the blonde basses caught my eye, and maybe a five string with out without a leopard skin cover. Basically I want it all.
7. I think the ones I have liked had Barts in, what do the new "lakland pickups" in the 55-94 and 55-14 actually have inside?
8. +1 I think anyone thinking of taking up DB would find it really interesting too.
9.
GJ is called Mike.
Ah there you go, come on its not like we spent 6 hours in a room with him wearing a sticker with "Mike" in big letters written on it is it?......
10.
From L-R Geoffbassist StringrayPete1977 ......the buffet is now behind Geoff Bassace ...Roger Me Kev Sarah Andy...keeponehand loose Will ...Zero9 GypsyJazzer Phil B Invicta59 Dave Owen Keith ..Mr Bassman That should be close , sorry if I forgot some of your real names
Added two including yours Just missing GypsyJazzer's real name, I told you I was bad with them Sorry Gypsy, I never forget a face and you wouldn't looking at us lot would you?
11. I'm terrible with names anyone gonna have a stab at putting the right user names to real names left to right? Great pics Edit just to say - I did not set up next to the buffet they put it next to me, honest! Good venue choice and plenty of grub too.
12. Of course! Still my weapon of choice although the Lakland 55-02 or the 55-94 could sway me at some point, Stingray with an extra pickup and more versatile preamp/controls and a more stable neck, whats not to like? I kind of like the slightly flappier B of a 34 inch Stingray in its own way though hhmmm...
13. We play a lot of styles of music so the various kit sounds are handy, I'd rather play to a real kit but it has its plus points especially where volume is an issue.
14.
I love E kits. When drummy gets the urge to para diddle all over the rehearsals I can just turn him off. They do look sh*t though.
The drummer in our band has one, other than a few extra wires you cant tell, I think most people think of practice kits and the pad type dont they?
15. Surgery!
16. All I can say is the ones I have tried all had flappy B strings and sounded a bit lifeless compared to say the Lakland five strings in guitar guitar, I have tried many other Fender fives before and since and found the same results. You shouldn't judge to much from my name I actually played a modified Squier Jazz 4 string alongside various Stingrays for years and years, I only sold it to someone on here once I had decided I am a five string player, if a Fender 5 took my fancy I would buy it, I am not anti Fender in any way.
17. Excellent day today folks, I really enjoyed meeting you all in the flesh. I learnt something from everyone there I think and thanks for letting me test drive all your lovely gear, I want one of everything please
18. Both Ampeg rigs failed at the Birmingham Soundgarden gig just as they were kicking in with their medley of hits and best tracks, ok so the tech and crew dropped the ball rather than the band but a simple DI box fail safe should have been in place or within moments imo, even as a pub bassist I would have been happier to have a less than ideal bass sound than nothing for 4 songs whilst having a strop and giving one bass away to an audience member and throwing the other on the floor, below average performance really imo, strangely it was still a good gig!
19. If anyone has actual camera skills/equipment definitely bring both though, lol
20. I will bring my Samsung phone which has a decent camera and it will upload automatically to photobucket when I get home so those who understand these things (not me!) Can share as they please. I'm looking to get a go on anything I can Geoff, I have no idea what other basses strung with various strings feel or sound like, I'm happy to let everyone have their way with 'Dolly' in return!
21. If I could find a fancy blue topped 55-94 for £2500 it would already be on one of my hooks! Where should I be looking? Ive seen 10 year old used ones go for around £2500.
22. I didnt find all Fenders howling but all the Laklands were nicer than their counterparts with nicer tops too, I tried a Sterling SBMM which I found underwhelming, others like them a lot. I was not looking a P basses of any kind, none of them do it for me really including the one in the OP. Jtuk I have concidered a DJ5, I like they metallic grey ones, but the 55-14 is looking more my thing
