1. I understood the now sorted but as you can see there were issues not easily rectified, but its your bass and you are now happy so thats cool.
2.
My Fender Jazz Bass is over 40 years old and hasn't got anywhere near that amount of wear on it. I think i'll have to do a relic job on it in case anyone thinks it isn't genuine.
There is a saying in the classic car world something like..."of the 3456 Lotus Cortinas built only 5234 are still on the road". I think it looks pretty good anyway Angel.
3.
I don't like stickers on basses
Hasn't yours got a Fender one on it? I'm sorry I couldnt resist
4. Half the time these heros people have here are nobodys to the next guy on here, that doesn't make them not nice people but I'm sure half the time people mention a player on here loads of fellow bassists have not heard of them, imagine what the general public think if you throw these big names around? I'd need to google about half of the names so far
5. I'm glad you are happy but what about "the softest maple neck in the world, fibres in the laquer, sanding marks in the finish"?
6. I am happy with three elec basses, I try and use them in turn as much as possible and a fourth would mean quite a while for the first to get a gig right now, that said I would like a Lakland 55-14 soon but I cant see me getting rid of any of the 3 Rays even though that single Lakland would cover all three existing basses, hhmmm
7.
Not played a 'Classic', if I was buying a new 'Ray and had enough money I'd be looking at those first (although if I had that sort of money I'm sure I'd be looking for another Pre-EB!). I don't think they have any magic, they just suit me perfectly. The neck is quite wide (top to bottom) but also fabulously slim (front to back). Not sure I'd notice the board radius but I'm sure that adds to the feel. Do the maple Classic 'Rays have one piece necks (i.e. no separate fingerboard)?
There is the faintest of lines I think which indicates they must cut the board off and put it back on after cutting the truss slot or use a matched piece of wood, mine has no skunk strip anyway but it is a seriously good finish and the board has birdseye markings just like the neck on mine, they are nothing like a standard EBMM neck at all. I only have one because of the 5 string, I was very happy with both my pre EB Rays that said these classic s are really nice!
8. I would be tempted by another pre EB ray if it was in mint as new condition and if it was Inca Silver even though I would not really use it enough, it is the best colour IMO.
9. Inca Silver with a graphite neck, no it is horrible.....
10. I would definitely take a budget bass with a high end amp over an expensive bass and a cheap amp, I am not that fussed these days really and never been a slave to the J nut P nut, fat neck thin neck blah blah blah anyway so a well set up cheaper bass with a fresh set of EB strings is fine.
11. http://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_micromix_mx400.htm This would have done me and I just got the AB and some lights from Thomann too, bollards! only thing is it is 12V so yet another power supply needed.
12. Just had a look that is just what I need and what I thought this Behringer one would do, bugger! The only plus side is that I can get one of them and send the paired DB from the LS-2 into the Behringer A and put my Stingray into B to save changing any leads around. Where is that piggy bank?.....
13. The proper DB boxes are mega money, I am thinking a little 4 channel mixer but that is more crap to carry, I will look at that LS-2..... thanks
14. Pic for clarity, Lol See the Behringer AB100 has a volume pot for each channel, I wanted to set the two volumes there with the Schaller on full giving me a single blended piezo&mag signal to go to an amp or into the desk channel.
15. OK so I have a KK bassmax on my double bass, which sounds great unless it is at talking volume then it feeds back like mad, I have got a Fishman Plat Pro EQ which helps and for most people solves the feedback issue, not for me so I have fitted a Schaller 411 Mag pickup to the end of the finger board which works great and you can play at stadium volumes with no problems, but it sounds a little bit like a big P bass on its end, not as much as people said though in fairness, think about how a hollow body old gretcsh sounds compared to a solid body bass the make the hollow body massive! Ok so what I decided was to put the Piezo via the fishman and remove any frequencies that were causing a problem then blend that with the mag pickup which has a volume knob of its own too, A Piezo in, B Schaller in and come out of one output to the amp and use the two volume pots to give a nice even balance between the two pickups, job done!....NO The AB only selects one at a time, I need to be able to select both ins to one out which I thought it could do, I though pressing the pedal would scroll A-B-A&B-mute or similar, is does not What can I do folks? What will happen if I just get a lead and split two onto one 1/4 jack to join the mag and output from the Fishman (The piezo must go via the Fishman to remove the feedback) I was all ready to make a special lead using 2 core and shield then split to two mono jacks for Mag and Piezo, colour code them both ends so one end goes to the Fishman in and one to Mag into the AB pedal input, I presume the shared shield would work OK? Does what I need exist? Thanks
16. I guess mahogany just makes us presume it will be heavy, great colour and neck, I like it.
17.
anybody willing to give a beginner bowing lesson?
+1
18.
Andy McCluskey of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark plays right handed upside down! I always wondered why, it's not logical for a right handed player to do this.
Ah you have solved my quest,I knew one must exist! Are there any more? I can only see that they must have picked up a lefty bass or guitar when starting.
19. I love the look of the t bird, the neck dive for me is an issue regardless of who that upsets, I can't just move along as suggested as my left hand is not for holding the neck up, it's for playing notes, very pretty basses though IMO. On the other hand if they made a five string grabber I'd be first in the queue as would the fella from Paramore to save him swapping basses to his B-D one, grabber five in dark metallic almost black please please please Gibson!
20. That doesn't stop you trying one if you see one
21. Have you tried a classic, ok there not worth the money but I don't really care but they are really nice basses.
22. Playing (and listening to) as many styles and genres of music is probably the most practical way of learning to just feel it, I've been lucky to play with some great drummers which has helped me see what goes where, messing around with the beat without the front person realising is when it's right yet the feel is different, if you keep getting funny looks from them your just sloppy Nod your head bang on the beat then play the note after, the longer the nod the longer the delay, before the beat is harder I'm not sure how competent I am at that really and crap drummers will usually speed up rather than hold the same time ime
23. Not at all, informed pre eb fans know all about the different pre amps available and longer pickup pole pieces, three bolt necks, thru body stringing etc hence why I said 1979 onwards rather than earlier, the fit finish, neck, hardware, sound and feel on my classic five is better than any atk and so it should for over two thousand pounds
