1. Schaller 411 has made live gigs so much easier! A bit of slap creeping in?
2. Yep, he loves it! The gig went well, we played well in fact I think I played better on upright than regular bass for the first time ever! As we thought the members did not turn up en mass even after they agreed a deal where they could pay nothing or a suggested donation of £2, so £2 for a buffet and a live band and they still stayed at home, dont agree to letting the venue do these events if you dont want them to. There was about 40-50 people though and about five Labradors The dog trainers were quite grumpy, non of them thanked us directly, only the old guy who was sort of in charge and taking the ticket money, raffle etc thanked us on the mic at the end of the evening, luckily the general audience were great and we did 3 lots of encores and over ran by about 25 mins So there you go.
3. Hhhmm weird, you wouldn't think the new one would be worse than the old one would you, be good to compare it to someone elses as maybe you have a duff one?
4. Just collecting my mate (roadie!) 6pm set up not far away, first set about 8.30
5. I have a normal poly tune it has no problem with low B and can even follow a fairly quick bass line on my upright bass too, how will is the bass set up regarding intonation, could it be producing some weird extra tones firing up the poly function? I've known the phase thing of a jazz bass cause trouble with tuners, selecting a single pickup or playing near the bridge helped a lot.
6. Well my wife and her sister are coming so I will probably pay for theirs
7.
Speaking of excellent lady bassists, I don't think I've seen this vid posted on BC yet: https://www.youtube....h?v=iyTTX6Wlf1Y
Brilliant!
8. Haha I know the OP of this thread personally, how's the ONE keeper bass going these days birdy? To be fair he has had some basses I'd have no problem keeping as my one and only bass
9. To be honest when you take into account that tonight I will be taking my upright, Fishman plat pro, Genz Benz 2x12 cab, Genz Benz shuttle max head, stingray classic five string bass plus the pa which is half mine and the lighting rig which is all mine then I'll probably never earn enough back just to cover that little lot even with my covers band that pays a bit better than the trio, I suppose for me it's the principal even if it's just £30-50 a head. Not long to go now and that will be the case from now on anyway
10. There is some really nice stuff lined up for the double bass bash, all of it proper expensive so I'm hoping to come home not wanting everything!
11.
My two, trans red refin '77 and natural '82.
And for those that dont know, thats my old natural '82 that started this thread but with a black pick guard fitted, cracking bass
12. Van loaded up ready, this time tomorrow I will be kicking off the first set then no more
13. I tried one around 1993-4 I hated it, big old clunky thing, A few years later actually 2002 I had saved up £1350 and took it to Musical exchange in Brum to collect a Warwick Jazzman but it was faulty right out of the box! I had no choice but to spend it on something else, tried a few Ricks, hated them, tried a few Rays and they all felt like I was getting a nice big solid chunk of bass for my money, a 3EQ trans Teal with maple neck complete with hardcase came home with me, 12 years later I have owned 6 only shifting the 4 strings because I did not play them, never had a battery go dead once, never had a preamp fail, never had a weak G string, done me proud all of them in the studio, originals material, pub bands and function band stuff. A proper bass players tool, Lol
14. I had seen that plate before but not given it much thought, makes sense now, id like to try a 4 string with weichs and an 8-10mm string height off the end of the board
15. Id like a Lakland 95-14 but I'm not gassing as such, other than that like you I'm fairly happy. I should spend more time learning to play the kit I already have!
16. Ah well there you go thats good to know, I've only seen them anchored on the bridge, are they all like that or just the nxt?
17. That's another thing I don't like about the NS basses, they use non DB strings afaik, they don't have a proper DB style after length do they, more like big bass guitar strings that hook in from memory,I like it that I have spirocore weichs on my DB and eub.
18. I'm the same with p basses, even though the dimensions are similar and I love everyone else playing them but I have give up lusting for one.
19. Lol, funnily enough the owner of the NS crm5 (?) Raised the action a lot after trying my DB, he is much happier with it now but also realised he had list interest in eub and DB. The fit and finish of the NS basses is really nice!
20. Defo come along mate, like you I've got little experience with any other basses so I'm looking forward to ogling lots of them!
21. Doesn't everyone play with their plucking fingers over the finger board on DB or eub?
22. I suspected it would be the sizzle you are missing, a two band pre eb replica would be ready to make and certainly add some top end. Looking good though.
