2.
I always associated Deacy with Fenders for some reason, what hits did he use a Ray on?
As the Stingray did not come out until 1976 anything pre 1976 is Fender, from the 1976 album 'Day at the Races' onwards there is Ray usage scattered here and there between P basses fretted and fretless if you listen/watch. 1976 'Day At The Races Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy and Tie Your Mother Down, 1977 'News of the world' We Are The Champions, 1978 'Jazz' Fat Bottomed Girls, 1980's 'The Game' Another Bites the Dust, They went left handed for the Montreal 1981 Live show?! Who would have guessed Freddie was gay?
3. If you can find a shuttle 3.0 you will be very happy, no fan and will run at lower volume with no problems, pop it in a bag as a backup and it will happily do your average pub gig no problem
Another one bites the dust, good old fashioned lover boy, Loads of stuff from the late 70s really. Tobacco burst sometimes white sometimes black pick guard
5. Anything John deacon used one on (more than you'd think) including the obvious one
6. I was thinking of bringing Russ in as head of barefaced sales actually, lol
7. If it had been made by a saddler it would make more sense, gash tat.
8. You lot are having some fun with that aren't you?
9. +1 for the Yita, I have not seen a good viable wooden one for similar cash, waste pipe tube is also good or a snooker cue case if you find one long enough. I would not rush out and buy anything else yet until you know what the bass you get comes with, I dont have a trolley or a wheel etc and my gig bag (body bag!) came free with the Gedo bass, its cheap but functional for now, it even came with a German wooden bow but its no Yita, and a pot of Pops Rosin. Rufus Reid's Evolving Bassist is the bible around here and maybe a metronome of some sort if you want to buy some goodies though, I have an Alesis drum machine and all that set up in my little room but I bought a little Korg metronome MA-1 so I can take it anywhere. Good choice anyway, it is great fun
10. Often people get an arse on when anyone suggests this, you are doing the right thing any advice and there is loads of folk here who know how it all works so just shout out, we all have our own little ways but the end result is usually a playable bass
11. Lol £425, might look good if you play in a full gimp suit? Id want to wipe it down with a cloth soaked in bleach before playing it, you just know its got jizz stains on it! Eww
12. Well most of bass chat for a start, lol, and anyone Scottish if they have been reading that thread
13.
Well I haven't felt the need to change anything and it plays lovely, so either I'm easily pleased or you got it spot on Pete!!
Ah well I'm quite chuffed with that then, maybe I should start offering pro set ups
14. Well obviously, the one that sounds best would be the maple one
15.
Look up a series of videos on YouTube by John Carruthers, I think they're on Elixir strings channel, he takes you through the basics. After some persuasion from the good folks here on BC I had my first go at it, with the JC video playing on my iPad while I did it, it's very satisfying! Last one I had done professionally was awful, took it to the same guy I've used many times, not sure if he was having an off day because he's usually very good. I didn't have time to check it when I picked it up and as he'd done plenty of stuff for me before, I didn't think there was any need, but when I got it home and played it, it was a buzzing mess. That sort of convinced me I had to learn how to do it and give it a go.
I like my own set up and did one for a bass ern500evo had off Ebay but I bet it wasn't exactly how you like it was it Lee?
16. I like to throw in a Billy Sheehan ring finger now and again too, never noticed much difference between all three options.
17. One mans pro setup is another mans unplayable junk
18. Do you mean you use the schaller alone? If so then thats why I added it, its the piezo ones that cause feedback, the schaller can go as loud as you like on its own as it turns it into a big electric bass, its not as bad as I was expecting though much more DB than I expected from other peoples comments id read elsewhere, once I get the blend right it will be killer for live shows
19. I have made a nice set of black f hole covers which I might use to allow more blend of the K&K live but it sounded great on its own at the jam session so just a bit of the real DB sound mixed in should be enough for me, I am not sure about sitting down for the gig
20. These things really only matter between us bass players, my wife could not tell you who Nate is, Matt Freeman, Gary Willis, Geddy Lee, Marcus Miller etc even though she probably has some of there recordings in one way or another, I dont know who most of them are without googling! Most of my musician friends would struggle with most of them too, Adam Clayton and Geddy would probably be the best known and I dont think many people know who Marcus is never mind the obscure Ibanez and Yammy sigs.
