My headphone and line in is a bit noisy too, I never use it though.
I dunno about that, but generally if the rehearsal before a gig goes well then it'll be a sh*tty gig, and vice versa...
^ without fail!
Yes. It's a very strange thing, It's often said about Rickenbackers too, one sound only, they always sound like Chris Squire, but actually they also sound like McCartney.
John Deacon playing Queens Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy on his Stingray sounded just like most of Tim Commerfords output with Rage Against The Machine really didnt it? Lol And another funny thing is too get that exact sound macca got you need a fiddle bass or a Rick, or maybe you need his fingers!

Ah! If anyone posts a silver sparkle fu5 I might keel over.
People often say the P does one thing well. But the P does a lot more than one thing, otherwise it wouldn't be possible to sound like both James Jamerson and JJ Burnell on the same bass.
I think thats true of all basses, I bet we could find a genre of most types of music played on most types of bass
Spot-on. I find it easier to get a workable sound with a Precision, whereas a Jazz I find I have to do a lot of eq-ing to get it where I want it. But then, that`s probably because I`m sure I just try to make it sound like a Precision, doh!
I think this is it,if we try and venture too far from home. I look for mm tones in a jazz, a J guy cant get the mm smooth enough, the p guy misses the growl if he trys a J and the ricky fans miss the neck dive in anything else other than maybe a Gibson
-
Im sure there are some knowledgeable nonce bassists out there eitherway, lol
-
When I play a P it always sounds too thin, my favourite sound when everyone else uses them which I know is the reverse of many people with an MM, I like a J but I find them a bit dull sounding really, big smooth bass sound but boring and ive tried all sorts inc Sadawsky and Alleva versions always just a bit meh.
I agree with most of this, I play guitar and bass, and I sing a little, but in my mind what other instruments I play is irrelevant in that situation. If I'm in a band playing bass and they've hired/chosen me to play bass, then I would like to think that they respect my ability as a bassist. And there is definitely a difference between telling someone what to play and giving constructive advice. I'd always absorb advice from other musicians. But dictators just make playing a soulless, unenjoyable experience for me.
Thats it and I try not to to watch those bands thinking "I wish he was on bass instead of singing", id try and enjoy it for what it is.

That is my main sticking point, I dont need 4 five string basses, my classic is going no where, the black one is my rough gig or jam night bass and is a proper tool it is worth least by far too as its got a fretted neck instead of the fretless it was made with, so that leaves the blue one its worth a bit that would contribute a few quid to the lakland but I like that bass too, I bought it new and it was my first fiver, its been in a video with me, lol
-
Im not as clear cut as everyone on the idea of being a bassist as such, there are bands I see regularly where the bass player is also a guitarist in an other band, those bassists are often better players than the full time bassists in plenty of other bands. If you are playing bass you are a bassist, when you are playing guitar you are a guitarist, if you play drums you are ....(insert your own joke)..a drummer, the only difference is your own ability on each which has no effect on other peoples ability does it? I can play a little bit of drums and I mean a little bit but there will be a spoilt brat collecting his pearl export from a shop today who has never played a beat, by the rules of basschat he is a drummer and im a bassist on our primary instruments but who is the better drummer at the moment?
-
Nice mod, I swapped my preamp and was worried about resale values but I have no issue with what you have done, looks a neat job and a cool bass, white and tort I think these are the most subtle looking five string basses, takes a good look to realise it has an extra string! Good luck with the sale, might be best to tell us where you are?

I've never understood people and their NBDs

The bongo looks epic, I prefer it with a normal neck, if we can call it normal -
Good question, I dont know. The skylines are already nice, I nearly had a dj5 but it was back my days of saying "if four strings are good enough for...".

I can understand setups not being to taste but im surprised a bass builder would put them like that, as long as the bass is good though as you say you can put it right. -
I really want one you know, might need to sell a stingray first though
-
Not me although he can and does play better than me, so did the guy in the band before who wrote and played his whole album other than the slap bass I played on it and some violin his dad played. Deck him

Always black with CAR.

The lakland 55-94 and now the new 55-14 appeal to me with the mm and J neck pickups but with a pan front the neck and split rear/front/MM selector for the humbucker makes it a proper versatile machine imo.

The 33 is a lot of bass for money....but...personally I'd rather have a better built hybrid for the same price, as a general guide but not always fully carved will sound better on its own but not make much difference in a band setting, carved tend to suffer feedback more than hybrids, hybrids tend to suffer more than ply basses. Ply basses can normally take a bit more abuse and the thing that would concern me on a brand new budget carved bass would be splits and joints opening up within the first few years. Each bass will sound very different due to loads of variables, sound post position, strings, bridge placement, construction etc. It was because of that I wanted a bass with adjustable bridge and ebony board so it can always be set up properly in future. Probably more confused than before now? Lol

Just get one that splits, I see no reason why it wont sound like a regular j pup, that said without the p it wont well, sound like a p.
Go on then, I'll play :-) my '64 lightly relic'd precision with jazz profile neck.
